16 Unique Ways to Do Your Something Blue
Old, new, borrowed, and blue. Can I tell you exactly how many times I’ve said that in the last 5 years? Next to weddings, ‘I Do,’ and bride, that foursome phrase has left my lips the most. And I’m not mad about it, because if there’s one wedding tradition I can get behind for life it’s something old, something new, something borrowed, and something blue. My sister hasn’t considered what she’s doing yet for her own wedding, so I know last-minute I’m going to have to put my MOH panties on, and make some recommendations ((no one but me would be psyched for that))!
I’d say next to pink, and maybe classic black and white, blue has become a mainstay color in the wedding world - and nearly every vendor we know has been sharing some new blue inspiration in their portfolio. We took a couple looks at our #inspiration feed over the last few days and were literally blown away by all the blue cues happening there. So, we figured it was probably a great time to round everything up and offer some tips on the best ways to do something blue at your wedding.
And note, if you’ve already got blue infused somewhere in your overall wedding palette - be it navy or cobalt, powder blue or periwinkle - then you’re pretty much covered. People will get the picture that that’s the way you’re working the tradition, and they’ll give you some unofficial props for not showing up with a blue garter on. Done done doneeeeee with that. If you’re going to do blue undergarments, think about some soft blue-hued lingerie for your wedding night, or maybe even plan a sexy blue boudoir session that you can give your partner the pics of that night. Something blue definitely doesn’t have to be shared with everyone, it’s really only for you, and your guy or girl, too.
We pulled some amazing inspiration from some of our favorite vendors, and whether you think their interpretations are approachable or a little too intense for your taste, the great thing about blue is its variability. Bold blues, like Rihanna’s cobalt bridesmaid dress might be too much, but something more subtle might be exactly what you want+need. Also, blue plays extremely well with tons of other colors, metallics (rose gold, blush and blue, be still our hearts), etc., so if you want to keep it as an accent color instead of your hero hue, that’s 👍👍👍
