The Jekyll Island Club Brings a Little Bit of Italy to Georgia

The Jekyll Island Club Brings a Little Bit of Italy to Georgia

Located on a small island off the coast of Georgia, hides a little piece of Italy. The historic Jekyll Island Club Resort was once the winter getaway for the world’s wealthiest families, and while the millionaires who first developed the island with cottages are long gone, their mark still lasts today. Two families who belonged to the Jekyll Island Club dreamed up their cottages to effectually mirror their favorite Tuscany Italian villas. The Italian Renaissance style was out of this world and still is, in fact the Crane and Cherokee cottages at JIC are the resort’s most popular wedding venues. And we don’t have to wonder too much to understand why. Let’s just scope it out a skosh.

Hotel weddings are hot, so cottage marriages must be too!

When brides get married at one of Jekyll Island Club’s cottages, they’ll stay within their respective cottage with their wedding party, family, and friends, and give even their big wedding a more intimate feel. I had my wedding at an inn, so I completely understand the allure of this kind of atmosphere. All of your favorite people staying in the same place; it’s a bonding experience that happens in one of the most beautiful places we’ve ever seen.

The Cherokee

Built in 1904, the Cherokee cottage highlights the gorgeous Italian Renaissance style with large double doors gracing the front of the cottage. The smaller size of the site provides a perfect spot for a more private, scaled back affair. With 10 rooms, a large lush lawn (for the most incredible outdoor ceremonies and mind-blowingly momentous father-daughter strolls), and a foyer fashioned for dancing all night long, this scene is spectacular.

That’s right, imagine having an al fresco fete outdoors. You and your guests will laugh and feast until the sun goes down, and then retreat inside for the cake cutting and lowkey lounging.

The Crane cottage

Built in 1917, the Crane cottage is the venue’s largest and most lavish on the property - featuring a picturesque sunken garden, fountains, and a immaculate upper terrace that’s an ideal setting for the couple to steal away for any private portraits and first kisses away from the gazes of their guests. With an unobstructed view of the river and splendid sweeping Spanish moss and live oaks, it makes for an awe-inspiring wedding venue.

We’re pretty partial to the creamy white facade of the building, as it lends a simple, clean backdrop for bridal party shots: tuxedos and dresses of any color look sharp and polished. Plus, those reflections in the fountain? 👌👌👌

We also can’t help but feel transported to Tuscany via this inner courtyard. The soft glow above the guest tables, the ambient twinkle lighting from strung strands, it’s all pretty darn magical.
