Fall Peruvian Reception Ideas

Peruvian culture and style come together flawlessly in this next shoot captured by Allison Maginn Photography. Seventh Bixel went all out pairing vintage furniture and textiles from La Tavola Fine Linen & Archive Rentals with rich fall colors to create a stylish reception space with an old-world vibe.

Two lounge areas were established for the family to enjoy throughout the evening. The main lounge was an area the entire family could gather and converse. The red velvet chairs and the gold satin pillows pulled in seasonal fabrics true to the transitioning seasons.

The second lounge area was created for intimacy. I kept this romantic and luxe with a suspended table for two complete with draped chiffon, yarn knit pouf seating and waterfall backdrop.

Pampas grass was incorporated to compliment the earthy feel of the yarn chandelier along with privet berries, bayleaf and huckleberry for texture that dramatically framed this romantic affair.

I came across a beautifully designed yarn chandelier that sparked immediate dreams of curating an intimate Peruvian inspired reception that would pay homage to the textiles and rich and vibrant colors of the Peruvian Culture. The yarn chandelier featured various yarn weights and textures, strung wood beads, copper wire, and carefully crafted spheres with cascading yarn that was strung from wooden embroidery rounds and hula hoops.

Many of the yarns in this region are dyed naturally using plant extracts and through this they are able to achieve stunning shades of reds, purples, and orangey-yellows in the yarns that are then woven into detailed rugs and mantas (blankets). Using an authentic Peruvian manta draped over the bench at the reception table and baskets filled with dried florals and balls of yarn to reflect this natural dye practice became the foundation for the color palette.

Spanish inspired and wood-weathered furnishings and tableware that appeared hand carved and ornate were chosen. My vibe was to create a set that reflected texture and subtle luxury. Incorporating a wide range of mixed metals, black taper candles and deep burgundy napkins with dark undertones set the tone for the couple’s tablescape.

In addition to the baskets of yarn and floral extracts, I incorporated the bride and grooms wedding ceremony despacho. In Spanish, despacho means dispatch or shipment. In the Andean traditions of Peru, the despacho is a ceremonial offering to mother earth. It is meticulously filled with a variety of items that are meaningful to the couple. The despacho is later burned signifying that the prayers from the items within are shipped off to the powers that be.

The wedding cake featured the current marbeling trend and incorporated a gorgeous hand painted floral at the base with edible gold leaf going across the cake and leading up towards the hand crafted sugar flower that was perched on the top tier as if it were floating. In addition, Huayruro seeds were placed near the couple’s wedding cake. These seeds are believed to bring good luck, fertility, and positive energy.
