It’s Never Too Late To Say ‘I Do!’

glamorous style for the bride and groom

Love does not hurry, Love takes it's time. We all don't find our perfect someone right out of the starting gate, for some of us it takes several laps around the course before we bump into Mr or Mrs Right. Robin and Roberts timeless love took some time and a little bit of fate as you will read if you keep scrolling. Love knows no age and it certainly doesn't scrimp on design or beauty, this dream-like tented event in the Robert's brothers backyard has all the elegance and chic decor you would expect of a high tea in an English garden.

LeeYen Photography captured every gorgeous and heart warming moment of this wedding that reminds us all that it is never too late to say 'I do'! See every last photo in our full gallery.

From Elizabeth Carberry: When the bride waits 60 years for the wedding of her dreams, every wish must come true! Her biggest one was to have an intimate affair with their closest family and friends, only 50 to be exact. And what better place for such a small celebration but a family home. The entire wedding was held at Robert’s youngest brother Peter's summer home in Newtown, Connecticut. A picturesque property that overlooks the lush valley. The home, in addition to being a family one, served as the perfect place for Robin’s desired outdoor family affair.

Their Love story

Robin and Robert’s love story started with a whirlwind trip to Italy just two weeks later. At the time Robert was living in Milan, Italy for work so he whisked Robin away to take her on their first official date. It did not take long for Robert to realize that he wanted to spend the rest of his life with her for the simple reason as he put it, “she makes me laugh.” And over the nine years they did a lot of laughing, traveling and spending time at home with their two cats, Isabel and Scottie, and two dogs, Brooklyn (named after Robert’s home town) and Charlie. But no matter what the barbecue where they met and fell in love was always the greatest part of their love store. So much so that the pig and barbecue theme were ever present throughout wedding celebrations and the was the theme of the rehearsal dinner.

Heartfelt Ceremony

The ceremony was truly special. Robin and Robert selected a dear friend Kathryn to perform the ceremony. Kathryn was the person that introduced them nine years ago. At a casual backyard barbecue at Kathryn’s home she told them both that there was just someone that “they had to meet.” So when it came time to select who would make their love official, who better than the person that started it.

Together with Kathryn, Robin and Robert wrote the entire ceremony, selecting three readings and an instrumental hymn played by a string trio. Set to the backdrop of the pool and the valley below, the thirty minute ceremony was sealed with a kiss and officially took Robin, in her gorgeous Vera Wang, off the market after 60 years of being a bachelorette.

The Bride & The Groom

Robin is a huge sentimental collector and with so many of her loved ones having passed away she wanted to include them through small yet meaningful details. The beautiful glass jewelry casket or were mementos from her grandparents or stunning bracelet for her something "blue", to the maybells in her bouquet which were her mother's favorites and last but not least her dearest sister whom she lost to ovarian cancer. So just as she shared in her speech, great things are worth waiting for and we couldn't agree more.

Robert through his extensive travels and Italian heritage has as well collected beautiful heirlooms such as his vintage watch. In true Italian tradition, this wedding was to be all about family! His father has been crafting stunning pieces with wine corks and made an unique one for the two Robs.

Let's Party!

Growing up in Brooklyn, NY with 4 brothers meant working hard and also playing hard which showed with his love for music. When it came time to picking vendors for the wedding, Robin wanted to stare at gorgeous, simple florals and greenery from Stems Floral Design, and Robert wanted to rock out until the wee hours with Closing Time, but both wanted food that would not be forgotten. The menu, designed and executed by Forks and Fingers catering, was carefully crafted and selected to feature personalized details, nods to Italy, and Robin’s love for fish and healthy, fresh, local ingredients. And the icing on the cake? A custom Twinkie cake for Robert - his favorite desert!
