For Clare and Andrew, getting married at the bride’s childhood home in Brentwood, Tennessee, meant their wedding began with something no venue could replicate: history.
Planned in just over a month with the help of an incredible community of family friends and event professionals including Jayne Bubis Events, the celebration transformed the familiar family home into an intimate, jewel-box dinner party. Chartreuse and rich jewel tones mingled with lush florals, deep green draping, candlelight, and generations of meaningful details.
But this wedding photographed by Heather Durham Photography wasn’t only looking backward at the families and traditions that shaped Clare and Andrew. By the end of the evening, they would reveal that their own family story was already beginning its next chapter.
A wedding at the bride’s childhood home
Rather than attempting to make the family home feel like a traditional wedding venue, Clare and Andrew embraced its intimacy.
Guests gathered in the living room for the ceremony, officiated by Clare’s brother. From there, the celebration naturally moved through the spaces of the home, with cocktails on the sun porch followed by an elaborate seated dinner beneath a tent. That progression gave the evening the feeling of being invited into an extraordinary dinner party rather than attending a conventional reception.
With only a little over a month to bring everything together, family friends and trusted event professionals rallied around the couple, making the celebration itself a testament to the community surrounding them.
A wedding mini with a nod to her grandmother
Clare’s bridal fashion carried its own piece of family history. Nashville seamstress Houri Barahimi transformed Clare’s Leo Lin mini dress with custom additions, creating a bridal look that was both contemporary and deeply sentimental.
Most meaningfully, the design incorporated fabric from a skirt Clare’s grandmother had handmade for her senior prom years earlier.
Rather than preserving the heirloom somewhere out of sight, Clare found a way to bring it back into one of the most significant days of her life—allowing something created by her grandmother years earlier to become part of her wedding story.

“You’re Written Into Our Story”
As avid readers, Clare and Andrew found an especially personal way to bring their shared love of literature into the guest experience.
Each guest received a carefully selected novel chosen especially for them, complete with a handwritten inscription from the couple.
Custom bookmarks finished each gift with the words, “You’re Written Into Our Story.”
The detail transformed the idea of a wedding favor into something much more personal. Guests weren’t simply given the same object to take home; each received a book selected with them specifically in mind.
In a wedding centered on family history and the people who had shaped Clare and Andrew’s lives, the sentiment couldn’t have been more fitting.
A jewel-box supper club in chartreuse and green
The reception design took the familiarity of home somewhere entirely unexpected. Deep green draping from Quest Events enveloped the tent while chartreuse and jewel tones brought richness to the tables. Lush florals by The Tulip Tree and warm candlelight layered throughout the space created a moody, intimate atmosphere with the feeling of a private supper club.
Rather than the light neutrals often associated with backyard weddings, Clare and Andrew leaned into saturated color, texture, and atmosphere.
The result felt cozy without becoming casual and dramatic without losing the warmth of celebrating at home.
Family heirlooms woven into the wedding design
Some of the most meaningful design elements came directly from Clare and Andrew’s families. Cotton stems handpicked from Andrew’s family farm in the Mississippi Delta were woven into the décor, bringing a tangible piece of his family’s history into Clare’s childhood home.
Embroidered heirloom linens added another generational layer, while a custom motif first introduced through the invitation suite appeared throughout the celebration.
Together, the details told a larger story. Instead of simply decorating the family home, Clare and Andrew filled it with pieces of both of their histories.
A Julia Child-inspired dinner party
Dinner became an experience in its own right. Longtime family friend and chef Johnny Haffner created a multi-course menu inspired by Julia Child, reinforcing the feeling of an elaborate dinner party unfolding at home.
Guests began with Italian wedding soup before moving through butternut squash ravioli, champagne sorbet, and surf and turf.
For the finale, bananas foster was prepared tableside, bringing a little performance into the dining experience and perfectly matching the old-school supper club atmosphere surrounding it.
Even dessert continued beyond the table. Guests left with individually boxed slices of wedding cake—a final bit of hospitality to enjoy after the celebration ended.
A private Nashville listening room
Music was never simply background entertainment at Clare and Andrew’s wedding. A “musicians in the round” stage transformed part of the celebration into something reminiscent of an intimate Nashville listening room, connecting the wedding to the musical culture of the city without turning it into a theme.
That intimacy became especially meaningful during the couple’s first dance, which was performed live by Clare’s cousins. But as the song came to an end, guests were about to discover that the first dance wasn’t the only moment the couple had planned.
The surprise no one saw coming
Following their first dance, Clare and Andrew revealed one final piece of their story. The jewel-toned tent suddenly flooded with blue light. They were expecting a baby boy!
What had already been a wedding centered on family legacy instantly became a celebration of the generation to come. Surrounded by relatives, longtime friends, heirlooms, and pieces of both families’ histories, Clare and Andrew revealed that they were already creating a family of their own. It was difficult to imagine a more fitting setting for the news.

At the end of the night, Clare and Andrew departed in a vintage blue Chevrolet Impala, another perfect splash of blue after the evening’s surprise. Yet what made their Brentwood wedding memorable wasn’t any single detail. It was the way those details connected.
A grandmother’s handmade skirt became part of Clare’s wedding dress. Cotton from Andrew’s family farm became décor. Family recipes and longtime friendships shaped the dinner. Clare’s cousins performed their first dance. Carefully chosen novels told guests that they, too, were written into the couple’s story.
And then, beneath the blue glow of the reception tent, Clare and Andrew revealed the newest person who would become part of that story.
