Wearing a traditional qipao alongside Ryan in a red tangzhuang, Candice began their Mallorca wedding at Son Marroig with a Chinese tea ceremony, one of several meaningful traditions the couple brought with them to Spain. Later that day, they would exchange vows beneath the white marble columns of Son Marroig, high above the Mediterranean Sea.
For the New York City couple, who had fallen in love with Mallorca long before their wedding, the celebration photographed by Sandy Alonso and planned with Lara Cos was never intended to be beautiful simply for beauty’s sake. They wanted to bring together their Chinese heritage, the people they loved, and an island whose golden light and dramatic coastline had captured them from the beginning.

A Chinese tea ceremony began the wedding day
The morning unfolded at Finca Fussimany in the hills of Deià, where stone walls, gardens, and sweeping sea views created an intimate setting for the couple and their families.
Before the more formal events began, Candice and Ryan honored their heritage with a traditional Chinese tea ceremony. Candice wore a classic red qipao, while Ryan complemented her in a red tangzhuang.
The morning also included playful wedding door games, bringing a completely different kind of energy to the celebration. Laughter and friendly competition gave their families and wedding party an opportunity to come together before the quieter emotional moments that followed.

An emotional first look introduced their modern wedding fashion
After the traditional celebrations, Candice and Ryan changed into their wedding-day looks and met in the finca’s garden for an emotional first look.

Candice wore an elegant gown by Chinese designer WEISS with Jimmy Choo shoes. Ryan chose a custom tuxedo by Shanghainese tailor Suit Lab, crafted in refined piano fabric.

The couple’s fashion offered another subtle connection to their heritage while transitioning the celebration from the traditional red attire of the morning into the sophisticated Mediterranean aesthetic of the ceremony ahead.

Son Marroig’s marble temple framed their Mediterranean ceremony
From Deià, the celebration moved to Son Marroig, where the historic estate sits dramatically above the Mediterranean.
Its white marble temple became the focal point of Candice and Ryan’s ceremony. Classical columns framed the couple against open sea and rugged coastline, while Mallorca’s golden evening light transformed the landscape around them.

The ceremony design intentionally remained restrained. Soft white florals complemented the marble architecture rather than obscuring it, allowing the temple, sea, and surrounding landscape to remain central to the experience.

The moon inspired the entire wedding design
Luxury wedding planner Lara Cos developed the celebration around a symbol with particular meaning for Candice and Ryan: the moon.
For the couple, it represented unity, cycles, and the idea of being “together forever.” Rather than interpreting the theme literally throughout the celebration, moon-inspired shapes and subtle references were incorporated into the design.

That restraint carried into the reception tablescape, where a minimalist approach, candlelight, and carefully considered shapes created a setting that felt romantic and intentional without competing with Son Marroig’s surroundings.

Paella and Mediterranean bites welcomed guests after the ceremony
Following the ceremony, guests gathered for cocktail hour overlooking the sea.
Mediterranean finger foods and freshly prepared paella brought the flavors of the destination into the experience, while the relaxed atmosphere allowed family and friends who had traveled from around the world to enjoy the setting together.

For Candice and Ryan, that was an important part of choosing Mallorca. They wanted guests not simply to attend their wedding, but to experience the island alongside them.

Candlelight transformed dinner after sunset
As daylight faded over the Mediterranean, candlelight took over.

Dinner became one of the most intimate portions of the celebration, filled with emotional speeches from family and friends. A mother-son dance, father-daughter dance, and Candice and Ryan’s first dance added to the evening’s more personal moments.

The understated tablescape allowed the atmosphere to shift naturally with the light, moving from Mallorca’s golden sunset into a warm, candlelit dinner beneath the night sky.

They finished their own tiramisu with cacao
Dessert brought a playful change of pace.

Candice and Ryan took part in preparing the finishing touch themselves, adding cacao to the tiramisu before it was served. The interactive moment gave the couple another opportunity to participate in the guest experience rather than simply watch it unfold.

A champagne tower added another celebratory moment before dinner transitioned into the night’s party.
A vintage car made for a cinematic Mallorca exit
Once darkness fell, the celebration moved indoors and the energy changed completely.

Music and dancing carried the wedding late into the evening before Candice and Ryan eventually made their exit in a vintage car, creating one final cinematic image to close the day.
It was a fitting ending for a celebration designed around both experience and visual storytelling.

Digital and 35mm film captured the wedding as it felt
Photography was especially important to Candice and Ryan. They wanted images that felt effortless, emotionally honest, and timeless while still carrying an editorial perspective.
They connected with destination wedding photographer Sandy Alonso during their first video call. Sandy and her team documented the celebration using both digital photography and 35mm film, balancing polished portraiture with fleeting glances, quiet interactions, and candid moments throughout the day.

Second shooter Hugo Coelho joined her in documenting the celebration, helping create a visual narrative that moved between the scale of Mallorca’s landscape and the smaller emotional moments unfolding within it.
For a wedding built around layers of meaning, that balance felt particularly fitting.

Candice and Ryan’s Mallorca celebration moved effortlessly between worlds. A traditional Chinese tea ceremony and wedding door games honored their heritage in the morning. Contemporary fashion reflected their personal style. Son Marroig’s marble temple and Mediterranean views gave them the destination they had fallen in love with, while a moon-inspired design brought a symbol of togetherness into the smallest details.
More than simply bringing their families and friends to Mallorca, they allowed the traditions they carried with them and the place they chose to become equally important parts of the story.
