When Travis and Emily met, Travis was immediately drawn to Emily’s ability to listen, validate, and empathize, while Emily fell for his honest, scruffy-nerd sweetness. In 2023, Travis proposed at the Japanese Tea Garden in Golden Gate Park, San Francisco, during what Emily described as “kind of a spontaneous trip.” They had snagged a cheap flight and finalized the entire plan within 24 hours. The couple had visited the gardens before, so Travis arranged for them to return early in the morning, just as the park opened. A soft fog blanketed the landscape, casting a quiet calm as they climbed to the top of the Moon Bridge at the garden’s center — where Travis got down on one knee. Ten hours later, they were on a flight home, newly engaged. Travis and Emily set their sights on a California wedding, inviting guests to the West Coast for a relaxed celebration planned with the help of Kindred Weddings and Events and doused in botanical beauty, all captured by Sloane Photo.

Planning rule: embrace the bright

When reflecting on their choice of California venue, “It felt special to bring everyone here, to where we’ve built our life together,” the couple shared. From the start, they established one rule for planning: avoid pastels and instead embrace bright colors with post-modern touches.

Featured venue: Art Ranch Los Angeles

Art Ranch Los Angeles provided the perfect backdrop, hosting an intimate garden ceremony that seamlessly transitioned into their outdoor afterparty. Natural blooms of the property mingled with vibrant arrangements, while fabric bows added stylish accents.

One of the most important decisions…

For Travis, a standout detail was his attendant Frank, who was “such a hit,” bringing energy, fun, and care to the bridal party.

Intimate dinner party reception

Forgoing a traditional reception, they instead hosted a relaxed, family-style dinner party designed to encourage connection and presence. “That’s the part of the day we’ll always treasure,” they reflected, “just feeling present with the people we love.”
