Italian garden romance met New England charm at this Massachusetts wedding

Share

Caroline and Greg share more than a love of lacrosse. The two are the first known couple from Boston University’s men’s and women’s lacrosse programs to marry, making their wedding a particularly meaningful celebration for the teammates, coaches, and friends who have been part of their lives.

For their summer wedding at The Gardens at Elm Bank, they traded the athletic field for an Italian-inspired garden setting filled with cascading pink florals, lush greenery, and romantic details that felt straight out of the European countryside.

With an outdoor ceremony in the Italian Gardens, a reception inside the Carriage House, and a guest list that brought together members of both lacrosse programs, their celebration planned by Deering Events and photographed by Photos by Annalee was as personal as it was beautiful.

A love story with a special place in BU lacrosse history

Caroline and Greg’s relationship has a unique connection to Boston University.

As former members of the university’s women’s and men’s lacrosse programs, they became the first known pair from the two teams to marry.

Both have continued their involvement in the sport through coaching, making lacrosse an ongoing part of their lives together.

Their wedding brought together an especially meaningful group of guests, including teammates, former teammates, coaches, and lifelong friends from both programs.

The celebration was an opportunity not only to mark the beginning of their marriage, but also to reunite the community that had played such an important role in their story.

The Italian countryside inspired a romantic garden wedding

Caroline and Greg envisioned a wedding that captured the timeless romance of the Italian countryside without leaving Massachusetts.

The Gardens at Elm Bank offered a natural setting for that vision, with its Italian Gardens providing an elegant backdrop for the ceremony and the Carriage House offering a welcoming space for the reception.

The design embraced an elevated European garden-party aesthetic, combining lush pink and green florals by Jenny Events Co. with thoughtful textures and classic details.

Rather than relying on an overly formal approach, the couple created a setting that felt refined but inviting, allowing guests to enjoy the gardens and the relaxed atmosphere of a summer celebration.

A first look in the Italian Gardens

The wedding day began at Hotel Commonwealth in Boston, where Caroline and Greg prepared for the celebration ahead.

From there, they traveled to The Gardens at Elm Bank for an emotional first look in the Italian Gardens.

The garden setting provided a romantic backdrop for the couple’s first moments together before the ceremony, surrounded by the greenery and architecture that had inspired their wedding design.

Caroline’s timeless bridal fashion complemented the setting, bringing a classic elegance to the European-inspired celebration.

Cascading pink florals framed the outdoor ceremony

The couple exchanged vows outdoors in the Italian Gardens, where lush floral arrangements brought color and softness to the ceremony setting.

Cascading blooms in shades of pink and green created an abundant, romantic aesthetic that felt naturally connected to the surrounding gardens.

The arrangements embraced the garden-party inspiration without overwhelming the beauty of the venue itself.

With the florals, greenery, and outdoor setting working together, the ceremony captured the warmth and elegance Caroline and Greg had envisioned for their summer wedding.

An Orange Crush cocktail added a personal touch

Following the ceremony, guests gathered in the gardens for cocktail hour.

Among the personalized details was a signature Orange Crush cocktail served in custom monogrammed cups.

The playful drink offered a contrast to the more traditional floral design, bringing an approachable, celebratory element to the afternoon.

The custom cups also reflected the couple’s attention to the smaller details, creating another opportunity to make the guest experience feel personal.

Moss-covered tables and glowing gold lamps transformed the Carriage House

The reception continued inside the Carriage House, where the Italian-inspired design took on a warm, intimate atmosphere.

Moss-lined tables brought an organic element to the tablescapes, while cascading floral arrangements in pink and green continued the garden aesthetic indoors.

Glowing gold lamps added a soft layer of lighting, giving the reception the inviting feel of an elegant dinner party.

The combination of lush florals, natural textures, and warm metallic accents created a space that felt thoughtfully styled without losing its relaxed charm.

Rather than dramatically departing from the outdoor ceremony design, the reception brought the beauty of the gardens inside, creating a cohesive experience from afternoon into evening.

A classic wedding cake and ice cream sandwiches ended the night

As the evening continued, Caroline and Greg celebrated with dinner and dancing surrounded by their closest friends and family.

The reception included a classic vanilla wedding cake, maintaining the timeless approach that had shaped much of the celebration.

Later, guests were treated to ice cream sandwiches, a playful late-night dessert from Tastings Caterers that felt especially fitting for a summer wedding.

The combination of traditional and unexpected details reflected the couple’s overall approach: elegant enough to feel special, but relaxed enough for everyone to enjoy themselves.

For Caroline and Greg, their wedding brought together two important parts of their lives: the relationship they had built and the lacrosse community that helped shape their story.

The Italian-inspired gardens, cascading florals, and warm Carriage House reception created a romantic setting, but the presence of teammates, coaches, and longtime friends gave the celebration its deeper meaning.

As the first known couple from Boston University’s men’s and women’s lacrosse programs to marry, they added a new chapter to a shared history that will always be part of their love story.
