A Dreamy Fall Bohemian Wedding In Michigan

Fall in Michigan is the perfect time and place for a dreamy Bohemian style wedding day. Not so sure? Oh, well then sit back and let Hannah Marchien Photography and her team of stupendous wedding vendors prove it to you. It all starts with the lovely setting of a quiet lakeside camp at peak leaf changing season.

The Venue

I grew up working at camps around the country with my family and my husband has worked at YMCA camps since he was 15. We currently live on a gorgeous 300 acre camp in Eastern Michigan called Camp Ohiyesa. I knew I wanted to have the styled shoot on our property because of the gorgeous Oak trees that surround the lake on both sides reflecting color in the water this time of year in addition to the stunning horse pastures and golden fields laced with burgundy leaves. There is no place like Michigan for my favorite season ever, Fall!

The Flowers

Choosing vendors was my next step. In May, I shot a wedding at MillCreeke Wilde with a florist and event designer named Erin Schoneman of Sage Green Events. Her colorful, wild, (carefree) style was exactly what I had in mind for this shoot. We immediately hit it off and started to plan our day.

We wanted to incorporate the boho style but with more of a (carefree) woodland flair. We set it in the woods, incorporating the oldest tree on the camp which stands strong along the lakeside as the centerpiece for our ceremony. Erin created a natural trellis of climbing wildflowers up and around the tree. We included Persian rugs and the camp's dark stained benches draped in boho pillows and throws for a cozy, camp look.

The Reception

Following the ceremony, the bride and groom took a ride across Fish Lake on a canoe handmade by my husband's uncle, Mickie Lee. It was adorned with a wildflower swag created by Erin.

For the reception/dinner, we wanted to make it very personal. We incorporated a farmhouse table handmade by the groom himself. Sticking with our multiple color palette of burnt orange, burgundy, royal purple, and cypress green (my favorite color!)

Erin created a stunning floating centerpiece and decorated the table with a variety of colored vintage glassware. We had glitz with the golden candlesticks and brought it down to Earth with the denim napkins and simple feathers and ribbon for the silverware. Pine cones were the perfect addition to hold the place cards created by the talented Jamie Lynne at Jamie Lynne Creative

The Food

For the cake, created by Lindsey at Fun With Frosting, we wanted a simple buttercream embellished with Fall foliage, feathers, and twigs to give it that rustic/wild look. We chose a vintage treasure chest as the cake table to incorporate the boho style. To end the evening, we had hobo pies around Camp Ohiyesa's lakeside fire pit! They were the perfect camp treat accompanied by some acoustic music played by the groom.

The Style

The breathtaking Kenneth Winston gown from Gina's Bridal sparkled with the campfire light. We chose this gown because of its simple form, yet elegant art-deco design which screamed boho to me! Her bouquet was a carefully pieced together collection of vibrant colors and plumes wrapped up in both royal purple, silk ribbon and cypress green, velvet ribbon creating texture and flair!

We chose Alicia and Kyle to model for the elopement because of their Indie style and their heart for camp... these two met at camp as teenagers and loved the idea of celebrating their marriage here!
