A Coastal Resort Wedding in Cabo San Lucas

Future groom Kevin had planned a beautiful Europe trip with future bride-to-be Lorin and their friends over the summer of 2018, spanning the coast of Italy and ending with a tour through the Greek isles. He had planned to propose in Santorini while they were on a sunset sail with their friends - but, a day before they were set to leave on their trip, the engagement ring got delayed! The trip went on as planned anyway, including the sail in Santorini. It was a great time, but everyone was very confused when the boat docked and there was no proposal.

Once the two got back home and Kevin finally got the ring, he followed up their trip with a quick weekend getaway to Santa Barbara. In the privacy of a small courtyard of their suite at the Four Seasons Biltmore, he got down on one knee and asked her to marry him. The evening that followed included a celebratory dinner at Lucky’s Steakhouse in Montecito and a weekend of piña coladas and champagne toasts at the legendary Coral Casino.

And the couple's wedding was no less extravagant and special! How They Met

Kevin and Lorin first met 10 years ago while Kevin was living in L.A. and going to Loyola Marymount, while Lorin was in Honolulu attending the University of Hawaii. The two kept up to date on each other's lives via social media but didn't actually speak regularly for years. Then one summer while on a family vacation to Kauai, Kevin found himself in search of a strong Mai Tai. Having no luck himself, he sent a text to Lorin (who was born and raised there) asking for recommendations. To both of their surprise, Lorin was also on Kauai - she was quick to offer up some suggestions, along with an invitation to grab one with her during his trip. As the week came to a close they found just enough time to grab a coffee and go on a hike together. A few weeks later, Lorin and Kevin met up again for the first time in California since 2008. They had been living pretty close to one another the whole time.

Venue Visits

After touring nearly every 5-star resort and venue in Cabo San Lucas, Chileno Bay Resort stood out for its exceptional service, elevated yet relaxed personality, and beautiful amenities. Once the bride and groom toured the event space and saw Comal, they knew it was the perfect place.

A Warm Welcome

Guests received welcome bags upon their arrival that included a custom hat with Kevin and Lorin's custom wedding logo, a towel shipped over from artisans in Turkey, and a hangover kit with all the essentials. Bells and Whistles also designed a beautiful snack box with local snacks and candy.

Creating the Vibe

It was important for the couple that the wedding played off of the natural beauty of Cabo San Lucas. For her colors, Lorin was inspired by the bright neutral tones of the granite coastline contrasted against the moody azure tones of the ocean. In terms of the “vibe,” they went for a modern romantic feel. They set the foundation with classic white roses and a pop of muted mauves for contrast. Lorin chose white roses for their timelessness, and loved the look of a wild, full arch. They went with a mix of deep greens, white, and muted mauve blooms, adding the same to the back row of chairs for balance. Down the aisle, Lorin carried a simple long stem, white rose bouquet. The couple will admit that their biggest splurge - aside from the buyout of Comal - were their incredible florals!

They added an abundance of candles along the walkways and the tabletops. The bride chose modern signage, menus, and design elements for balance, and finished with natural texture throughout, including various elements like hanging lanterns, cane chairs, and beautiful candles handmade by local artisans.

The Talk of the Table

To play up the romantic feel, the bride choose cream stoneware and textured crystal glasses set against white table linen. Modern touches were added through gold flatware and candle votives. Finally, they added locally made, ornate candles as a homage to the area. It was the perfect balance of romantic classic meets modern minimalism. Bells & Whistles created a beautiful seating chart with the couple's custom wedding logo.

The Planner's Favorite Moments

"We had one of Kevin’s best friends marry them, and he forgot to tell the guests that “you may be seated” after the bride got to the alter. So for about 3 mins, the crowd just stood there awkwardly until Kevin leaned in and said, “You still haven't told them they can sit,” which was picked up on the mic. Everyone started laughing which totally eased the nerves.

We had a surprise fireworks display planned and in the middle afterparty, we stopped the music mid-song and walked to the center of the dance floor. All the guests stopped and looked up to see Lorin and Kevin with a big remote control. After a brief pause, we pushed “start” and off went the huge firework display overhead.

The food and service were absolutely incredible. The servers learned everyone's food preferences and names. They really went above and beyond!

With the bride being Native Hawaiian, the bride’s mother did a traditional Hawaiian water ceremony and danced the hula at the rehearsal dinner. There wasn’t a dry eye in the house."

In the Bride's Own Words

"Our wedding weekend was the perfect representation of us as a couple. From the incredible venue to the countless shared memories (and margaritas) with loved ones- it was a weekend we wish we could re-live again and again."
