How to Write Your Wedding Vows

Reasons I love you…
Kind of self-explanatory. But you know why you love each other ((if not, this is a great time to make that apparent)). Is it her selflessness? His confidence? Flattery coming before forever, in front of your family and friends.

Remember when…
Everyone loves a good remember when story, and for couples, it can honestly be something that you never shared with each other before. Like the moment you fell in love with your guy or girl, or the first time you realized that the other person would TRULY be there for you always (for me, it was when I freaked out on top of a snow-covered mountain in Utah - 6 months into my relationship with my now husband - and when I said I was walking (not skiing) down the mountain, my triple-black-diamond boyfriend sat with me in the freezing cold for 2 hours before I grew the confidence to put my skis back on and ski down).

Favorite things…
Similar to the reasons you love your bae, but this can be a little different. Consider it the ‘little things’ that make you smile when you think of him/her. I just love how nerdy my hubby can be. And he loves how obsessed I am (or used to be) with Dentyne Fire cinnamon gum and green tea lattes wayyyy before matcha was a thing. He always says how our first kisses used to taste like algae hahaha. Think about those little quirks that you love about them.

Funny things….
Have you both started a hobby together - cooking, mixing drinks (that taste a helllll of a lot better than the LITs you pounded in college), playing intramural dodgeball - maybe you’ve started a show together and you promise to watch The Bachelor forever together for the rest of your lives. Or as long as ABC lets it live for. Make mention to these cute, funny things in your vows! Everyone will love it.

Lyrics to love…
Do you have a favorite artist that the two of you SCREAM lyrics to when you’re in the car, or did you go to a life-changing concert with each other, and can remember every single lyric. Then challenge each other to work some super apropos lyrics from that artist into your vows. And don’t share it until you’re exchanging vows. Extra points for the couple that ends up using the same verses.

Words of wisdom…
Have your grandparents or parents set an exemplary example of marriage for either of you? Or perhaps you’ve heard keys to a happy, successful marriage from an aunt or uncle, cousin, family friend, even your favorite celebrity couple (Justin Timberlake and Jessica Biel, Jessie James and Eric Decker, heyyyy)? A great place to glean some vow tips can come from your relationship role models. We love the idea of interviewing a few of these people and incorporating promises into your vows that come from them! Or even taking advice from the ‘marriage advice or bridal advice’ you got at your bridal shower from all of your favorite people. #ivowtonevergotobedangry.View Post: @ourloveisloud
