Known for their colourful hue, the vibrant bougainvillea blossoms are a unique flower choice for any couple who wants to add native florals to their destination wedding. The Greek island villages are filled with these pretty petals with their incredibly bright colours, and long branches crowded with fluttery blooms that create interesting and unstructured shapes.
Mixed with the soft, pale coloured, local stone used in the buildings of the Ionian Islands it provides a wonderful opportunity to use these flowers as a colourful backdrop for your portraits! The dinner table was filled with glass and neutral fabrics so the natural colour of the flowers and greenery spoke for themselves.
Gold foil translucent menus with a hexagon motif, a shape used again for the perspex place names. Each guest received a white, ceramic swallow bird as the ‘helidona’ arrives in the Greek islands in the spring along with the bright bougainvillea flowers and means prosperity and happiness.
In gorgeous shades ranging from blush to magenta and fuchsia, the statement rose and bougainvillea bouquet overflowed with blooms creating an asymmetrical shape and can be carried with a traditional hold or draped over one arm. Down on the sand, the neutral ceremony decor let the bride and her bouquet become centre stage in the evening sunlight.
