This ultra organic shoot in Central Virginia was aptly inspired by the warm, golden hues of honey and the tones of natural wood grain and copper. This amazing Virginia based wedding team came together to show us how these colors and contrasting textures come together to create a whimsical and beautiful inspiration.

The Market At Grelen

Our first location was at Boxwood Villa, a small property about 10 minutes from from the main venue, The Market At Grelen. This is where our couple got ready. Boxwood has lots of charming characteristics inside and out. Including the long front porch with white brick walls, an ideal spot for grabbing those bridal dress shots!

Raleigh Calligraphy

The green invitations with insanely gorgeous calligraphy and vintage postage from Raleigh Calligraphy played perfectly with the wildness and softness of the entire aesthetic. She also provided vow books tied with antique white ribbon and customized with the same copper ink.

The Beauty Team

Our bride’s hair was elegantly braided back and loose by Amy Loope, owner of Studio 321, to showcase the intricate, yet feminine details of her dress provided by Amandas Touch Bridal. We kept her make up, by Gohar Makeup, soft and delicate, to enhance her natural beauty. Our groom was in a classic black tux also provided by Amandas Touch Bridal.

Willow Branch Flowers

Our color palette included amber, golden yellow, blush, greens, ivory and beiges. The floral design by Willow Branch Flowers provided the flawless balance of organic and elegance.

An intimate ceremony was set outside in the yard underneath the trees. Loose leaves and mismatching chairs added interest to the small setup.

After a few portraits, we moved to The Market At Grelen. Set on a 600-acre tree nursery, the venue boasts rural simplicity at it’s most luxurious! It has gorgeous 360-degree views and was lovingly designed to emphasize the surrounding natural beauty.

MS Events

For our al fresco set-up, our table was styled overlooking the tree nursery, catching all the honey and amber tones the Virginia mountainside has to offer AND that couples seek when visiting Charlottesville in the fall.

The tablescape featured hammered copper chargers and heirloom linen plates from MS Events, adorned with deckle edge place cards with copper ink and partially dipped in green watercolor. Jupiter smoke water glasses and the luxurious York Satin black flatware gave the tablescape more depth and dimension. While the Panama linen napkins and burnt orange cheesecloth table runner gave it more texture. Dark bronze and hammered copper votive candle holders, white wood taper candle holders, and textured honeycomb amber votives accented the table.

Harvest Moon Catering

A natural beekeeping farm, Hungry Hill Farm, provided the local honey products featured throughout the entire shoot.

Executive Chef, Frank Debons, from Harvest Moon Catering designed the most immaculate cheese board. Featuring local artisan cheese, meats, local ricotta with figs, raisins and pumpkin seeds. Individual jars of Hungry Hill Farm with the simplest honeycomb stick were set at each place setting. He surprised us with a few other honey inspired creations including a triple layer coffee and honey Panna cotta with honeycomb crumble and mini waffle with crispy duck and honey pipette.

Hungry Hill Farm

We created a fun and fresh signature cocktail, called the “Honey, I do”. Made with Bowman Brothers Virginia Bourbon, Hungry Hill Farm Honey, simple syrup, sage and fresh orange.
The eye-catching cake by Maliha Creations was crafted with fresh ingredients and inspired by honeycomb. The bottom tier providing an orange and gold marble effect while the top two tiers featured accents of really honeycomb with Hungry Hill Honey drizzling down.

As the evening continued, we chased the sun up to the venue’s ideal spot for grabbing those last sunset photos and to pop open a bottle of champagne. Ashley Eagleson, our photographer, savored every last bit of light and captured beautifully the precious moments of sunset that every couple dreams of on their wedding day.
