A Stunning Flora Farms Wedding Full of Pink Florals Photographed by Erich McVey

Not Your Average Cabo Wedding

With a lush garden ceremony that was dripping in flowers, an outdoor candlelit reception, and no beach in sight, this is not your typical Cabo wedding. While Cabo is known for its incredible beaches, this couple was drawn to this destination for another reason, they were chasing that perfect weather guarantee...and after having to change their wedding date twice because of COVID, we get wanting to limit the variables! Just as planned, the bright Mexican sun shined down on them as these two tied the knot under a gorgeous floral arbor. And while the ceremony and reception were absolutely stunning, our favorite part of Flora Farms, this unique venue, has to be the open-air brick structure that housed the cocktail hour and lounge.

The couple was so thankful to Amy Abbott Events, their planner, for helping them navigate the ups and downs of the pandemic and its effect on travel and weddings in general. Floweriize designed these gorgeous floral arrangements, starting with a monochromatic scheme for the ceremony and then a celebration of color for the reception. Social Art Cinema followed the couple on their big day to capture every special moment. They also splurged on their photographer, Erich McVey Wedding Photography, who is the artist behind these vibrant photos–a very worthwhile investment if we do say so. Read on to hear more from the bride herself, Becky Davies, about how everything finally came together to create their dream wedding day. WHEN HOOTIE MET BECKY

Not Your Average Cabo Wedding

Hootie and I met in November of 2012 at a small housewarming party in the Flatiron District of New York through a mutual friend. We had instant chemistry. He asked if he could make me a martini, and I said only if it was celiac friendly, wherein that moment he took the initiative to google if his martini ingredients were gluten-free. For people with celiac disease, you know this man is already a keeper! We left the housewarming party and went to a local bar, B Bar and Grill, a classic East Village establishment for millennials in the early ‘10s, and hung out until the early hours. After we met, we were inseparable. A year later, Hootie moved to San Francisco for work which lasted three years, and we had a long-distance, bi-coastal relationship which had its ups and downs. We dated for 6 years in total before getting engaged.

HOW HE POPPED THE QUESTION

Not Your Average Cabo Wedding

Hootie proposed on December 19, 2018, on an ice-cold Wednesday morning in our tiny apartment in SoHo. I just bought a new juicer and insisted on setting it up, and he was acting super strange. Wide awake before me and not drinking his morning coffee, so I knew something was up. It was an intimate and relaxed moment before we had brunch in SoHo, massages at The Peninsula, drinks at Rose Bar, and dinner at our favorite restaurant, Cosme.

FINDING THE RIGHT DESTINATION

Not Your Average Cabo Wedding

We wanted a place that was warm, guaranteed good weather, felt like vacation, and created a once-in-a-lifetime experience for our guests. We looked at maybe 25 venues in California, but none of them felt right. When we moved our search to Cabo, specifically Flora Farms, everything clicked. The venue fit all of our needs and was also one of the most stunning, intimate, and authentic locations. Not to mention, the food is delicious, and the people are warm and hospitable. Flora Farms is so lush and green–I wanted to pick something complementary for our color palette, so pink was an obvious choice. Because Flora Farms is known for its mango grove, we used secondary colors of pale orange and yellow throughout.

MORE IS MORE

I love candlesticks at night, so I requested as many candlesticks as humanly possible in our pink, orange, and yellow colors. The candlesticks came in varying lengths and sizes. We used flowers and decorated the table with local fruits to pick up on the vibe of Flora Farms. We kept the ceremony more classic with green and white flowers, something more timeless. Both our arch and the bouquet were green and white. I wanted the ceremony to feel more traditional and the reception more fun with pink, orange, and yellow.

SO WORTH IT

Not Your Average Cabo Wedding

Our biggest splurge was our photographer, Erich McVey. He shot my friend’s wedding in 2017 at Castle Hill in Rhode Island. When I saw her photos, my jaw dropped. I love his use of film photography and how his photos feel more like art. He was the first person I booked, and I made sure he was available before we changed our wedding date (twice) due to COVID-19. I’ll cherish his photos forever. We also splurged on our incredible planner, Claudia Palma. The entire event was so seamless and we were able to be guests at our own wedding. We didn’t lift a finger during the whole day and not once were we worried about timelines or operations going smoothly. This was a huge blessing. During our 2+ year planning process together, Claudia was direct, had a plan, was calm and confident, and saved me an extraordinary amount of time. I tell Claudia that our wedding day was truly “our day” and I couldn’t be more grateful for her expertise.

IT'S ALL ABOUT WHO YOU INVITE

Not Your Average Cabo Wedding

It is so cliche, but the wedding day really does go by in the blink of an eye. From our point of view, I thought the entire wedding lasted an hour, and I’m not sure I was entirely prepared for how fast it would go. Thankfully, we had a destination wedding that lasted 4 days, so I had time to really talk to people. But the wedding night really isn’t enough time! Last, the wedding is all about the people you invite. We had a smaller wedding with really high energy, positive, and super fun people, and they really made the party what it was. They were grateful and made every single moment entertaining. Our wedding wouldn’t have been so amazing if it wasn’t for our guests.
