This luxury Hindu wedding brought a circular mandap into the Tucson Desert mountains

Share

Before Aarti and Kishen ever started dating, they had to survive being friend-zoned.

A mutual friend first introduced the two over video chat, leading to daily conversations that were, at least initially, completely platonic. About a year later, Aarti realized her feelings had changed and decided to tell Kishen. His response was kind, but he only saw her as a friend.

A few weeks later, Kishen reconsidered. He reached back out, apologized, and admitted that he had feelings for her too.

From there, months of conversations created the emotional foundation for a relationship that would carry them from high school through their years at the University of Houston. Eight years later, Kishen proposed in the mountains of Breckenridge, Colorado. For their wedding at Loews Ventana Canyon Resort, planned with 3Sixty Events and photographed by MnM Photography, another dramatic mountain landscape would become part of their story.

Tucson’s desert mountains set the stage for the wedding weekend

Aarti and Kishen chose Loews Ventana Canyon Resort in Tucson for a destination celebration shaped by Hindu traditions and the surrounding Arizona landscape.

The resort paired luxurious accommodations with access to the outdoors, giving guests opportunities to experience nearby golf courses, hiking trails, and waterfalls throughout the weekend.

For the wedding itself, the couple wanted to preserve those views. An open-concept design kept the surrounding mountains visible, allowing the landscape to become an active part of the celebration rather than something hidden behind elaborate decor.

Aarti traveled to India for her wedding fashion

Fashion had long been part of Aarti’s wedding-day vision.

To find her looks, she traveled to New Delhi and Mumbai, combining her lifelong love of fashion with a childhood dream of shopping in India for her wedding wardrobe.

Her veil was designed to make an especially dramatic statement. Intentionally long and sweeping, it created the unforgettable sense of movement and scale she had envisioned, particularly against the open desert and mountain setting.

The fashion brought another connection to India into a wedding weekend that otherwise unfolded thousands of miles away in Arizona.

A circular ceremony stage became the centerpiece

One element of Aarti and Kishen’s vision proved particularly challenging to execute: a circular wedding stage.

Finding the right structure became an ongoing challenge for the planning team, and with only weeks remaining before the wedding, it was finally secured. “We were beyond ecstatic,” the couple shared.

The circular design became a defining visual element of the ceremony. Surrounded by a floral installation that appeared to rise organically into the hillside, the structure felt connected to the desert rather than imposed upon it.

Florals and cacti connected the ceremony to the desert

The surrounding landscape also influenced the ceremony’s color story.

Instead of attempting to separate the wedding design from its Arizona setting, nearby cacti were incorporated visually alongside the floral installation. Flowers framed the ceremony while the desert vegetation and mountains remained visible beyond them.

The result balanced the scale and luxury of a destination wedding with a strong sense of place, allowing Tucson’s natural scenery to remain recognizable throughout the ceremony.

Kanyadaan and Mangal Pheras honored Hindu tradition

While the landscape shaped the visual experience, Hindu traditions gave the ceremony its deeper meaning.

Aarti and Kishen incorporated significant rituals including the Kanyadaan and Mangal Pheras, honoring love, responsibility, family, and the sacred bond of marriage.

Set against the mountains and surrounded by the people closest to them, these traditions grounded the contemporary destination celebration in rituals that connected the couple to their heritage.

Matcha, açaí, cannoli, and mini pancakes personalized the guest experience

Aarti and Kishen also wanted the weekend to feel fun for their guests, and some of the most memorable touches came through food and drinks.

A coffee and matcha bar offered guests their caffeine of choice, while an açaí station added another interactive element. A cannoli chef and mini pancake stand continued the experience with playful treats throughout the celebration.

“These little details added fun, flavor, and personality to every moment of our celebration,” the couple shared.

Rather than treating every element with the same level of formality, the stations introduced relaxed moments into the larger luxury experience and gave guests something new to discover.

“Is this really happening?”

Throughout the wedding weekend, Aarti and Kishen repeatedly found themselves asking each other the same question: “Is this really happening?”

It was an understandable reaction for a couple whose relationship had begun with daily video calls and an initially unsuccessful confession of love.

Years later, they were standing together in the Tucson desert, surrounded by mountains, family, friends, and traditions that carried meaning far beyond the visual beauty of the celebration.

Their wedding brought those different parts of their story together naturally. Hindu rituals honored their heritage, fashion sourced in New Delhi and Mumbai fulfilled a childhood dream, and a circular ceremony stage framed by flowers and cacti embraced the Arizona landscape. Matcha, açaí, cannoli, and mini pancakes brought a little unexpected fun.

For Aarti and Kishen, the surreal feeling never quite disappeared. After eight years together, that may have been part of the magic.
