They brought black-tie glamour to Corfu – then added pizza at midnight

Share

There are destination weddings that lean into the landscape, and then there are celebrations that use the setting as a canvas for something entirely their own.

At Ekaterini Estate in Corfu, Greece, and with help from Vicky Galata Weddings & Events, this couple embraced a black-and-white luxury aesthetic rooted in contrast: airy white florals against dark fashion, crystal chandeliers suspended above an open-air reception, polished fine dining followed by late-night pizza, and timeless black-tie styling set against the lush greenery of the island. Photographed by Ross Hurley, the result felt formal without being stiff and glamorous without losing the relaxed spirit of summer in Greece.

Sculpted bridal style

The bride embraced modern, sculpted elegance in a strapless satin gown by Mariana Hardwick with a clean, structured bodice and softly architectural draping through the skirt.

A sheer veil introduced a romantic counterpoint to the gown’s simplicity, while sleek hair, luminous makeup, and restrained jewelry kept the styling polished and contemporary. The look balanced softness with strength, allowing the craftsmanship and silhouette of the gown to remain the focus.

Black-tie bridesmaids

Black bridesmaid dresses created one of the strongest visual contrasts of the day. Sleek, fluid silhouettes brought a fashion-forward edge to the otherwise light and ethereal setting, allowing the wedding party to stand out beautifully against the all-white florals and surrounding greenery. The choice felt timeless rather than severe – an elegant interpretation of the couple’s black-and-white vision.

Custom attire for the groom

The groom brought his own interpretation of black-tie dressing with a sharply tailored white tuxedo jacket paired with classic black trousers. A satin lapel added subtle sheen, while the crisp contrast between black and white echoed the larger design language of the celebration. The look felt traditional at first glance but distinctly modern in execution.

Serpentine ceremony design

The ceremony unfolded in the gardens of Ekaterini Estate, framed by Corfu’s green hillsides and an abundance of white flowers.

A dramatic serpentine aisle guided guests toward the altar, with cascading arrangements of roses, hydrangeas, ranunculus, seasonal blooms, and soft greenery by Jim Labraco spilling organically along both sides. Rather than feeling tightly structured, the flowers were arranged in a low, garden-grown style that brought movement and dimension to the monochromatic palette.

At the altar, the floral design became more architectural, creating a grand focal point while still maintaining the softness that defined the overall aesthetic.

Timeless all-white wedding flowers

The all-white floral design relied on texture, shape, and scale rather than color for impact. Roses, ranunculus, hydrangeas, and seasonal flowers were layered with soft greenery, keeping the arrangements dimensional and fresh.

The variation in bloom size prevented the monochromatic palette from feeling flat, while the slightly undone styling kept the flowers connected to the surrounding landscape. It was opulent in volume but never heavy.

On trend: a quiet luxury reception

The reception continued the same quiet-luxury approach beneath flowing white drapery and statement crystal chandeliers.

Tailored linens, soft-toned chairs, polished silver flatware, crystal glassware, and refined floral arrangements created a serene foundation. Rather than introducing additional color, the design played with texture and reflection, allowing candlelight and crystal to bring warmth and sparkle into the space.

The vintage-inspired silver cutlery added a subtle heirloom quality, grounding the otherwise modern reception with a sense of timelessness.

Detail we love: making it personal

Each place setting included something far more personal than a traditional place card. Handwritten notes from the couple greeted every guest at dinner, introducing intimacy into the grand reception setting and reinforcing the sense that hospitality was just as important as design.

Guests could also ring a bell to summon one of the couple’s signature cocktails, turning the bar experience into an interactive moment that quickly became part of the evening’s fun.

A seven-course Greek dinner

Dinner became an experience in its own right. A custom seven-course menu celebrated elevated Greek flavors through a contemporary fine-dining perspective, allowing guests to experience the destination through its cuisine while maintaining the sophistication of the black-tie celebration.

The progression felt immersive rather than formal for formality’s sake, giving the reception its own rhythm as the sun disappeared and the evening shifted into celebration.

A champagne and choux tower for dessert

The couple skipped the traditional wedding cake in favor of something a little more celebratory. A champagne tower served the entire guest list, creating an unforgettable toast and a natural focal point for the reception.

Instead of one shared cake, individual French choux towers by Cake Boutique were placed on the tables, allowing guests to help themselves to the crisp pastry and caramel throughout the evening. It was a playful departure from tradition that still felt completely at home within the elevated setting.

A chessboard dance floor under the stars

At the center of the evening was a custom chessboard-inspired dance floor framed by greenery. The graphic black-and-white pattern became a natural extension of the wedding palette while creating an entirely new energy once the party began. Aston Band from London brought the celebration to life, filling the open-air setting with live music late into the night.

For their first dance, Danny from Aston Band performed Benson Boone’s “Beautiful Things,” creating one of the evening’s most emotional moments before the dance floor opened to everyone.

Late-night pizza in Corfu

After seven courses, a champagne tower, and hours of dancing, the evening ended in the most fittingly Mediterranean way possible: with pizza. A live pizza van – Mamalis Catering – arrived to serve fresh slices as a late-night snack, bringing a relaxed summer energy to the final hours of an otherwise polished black-tie celebration.

It was exactly the kind of contrast that made the wedding memorable – crystal chandeliers and pizza vans, couture and dancing under the stars, formal elegance paired with the unmistakable joy of being in Greece.

Black-tie elegance, Corfu style!

This Ekaterini Estate wedding showed that a black-and-white palette doesn’t have to feel stark. Through lush white florals, candlelight, flowing drapery, polished silver, dramatic chandeliers, and moments of genuine fun, the couple created a celebration that felt sophisticated without becoming overly precious.

Every element had a purpose, but nothing prevented guests from fully enjoying the night. In the end, that balance between refinement and ease may have been the most luxurious detail of all.
