A black-tie destination wedding with sunset views over Isla Mujeres

Share

Some proposals feel straight out of a movie, and Leigh and Jonathan’s was exactly that.

While traveling through Santorini, Greece, Jonathan surprised Leigh during what she believed was a casual vacation photoshoot overlooking the island’s iconic caldera. Secret photographers, posing as fellow tourists, captured the unforgettable moment as he got down on one knee before continuing with a surprise engagement session against one of the world’s most breathtaking backdrops.

Their wedding planned with Patty Morales of Soon to be Wedding and hosted at Impressions by Secrets Isla Mujeres carried that same spirit of romance, blending timeless black-tie elegance with meaningful personal moments overlooking the sparkling waters of Isla Mujeres.

Surrounded by family and friends, Leigh and Jonathan exchanged deeply personal vows they had written themselves, creating one of the most emotional moments of the day. Sharing those heartfelt promises in front of their loved ones became one of the couple’s favorite memories and set the tone for the celebration that followed.

A custom cocktail hour

The couple personalized cocktail hour with signature drinks inspired by their own favorites. Guests sipped on Leigh’s French 75 and Jonathan’s Carajillo, adding a thoughtful touch that reflected their personalities while giving friends and family another way to celebrate alongside them.

Elegant open-air reception inspiration

Guests gathered beneath a beautiful wooden canopy for an elegant open-air reception overlooking the Caribbean.

As the sun slowly dipped toward the horizon, vibrant shades of orange painted the sky behind Isla Mujeres, creating an unforgettable backdrop for the evening. The refined reception featured a formal seated four-course dinner, balancing sophisticated design from Canteiro Weddings with the relaxed beauty of the destination.

The combination of breathtaking views and timeless styling made every moment feel effortlessly romantic.

Celebratory tequila shots for everyone!

As elegant as the evening began, the celebration quickly embraced the couple’s playful side. One of the night’s most unforgettable moments came when Jonathan lifted Leigh onto the bar so the two could take a celebratory tequila shot surrounded by cheering family and friends. The spontaneous moment perfectly captured the joyful energy that filled the reception from beginning to end.

Later, the couple wowed guests with a choreographed first dance they had created entirely on their own. Learning the routine together became part of their wedding journey, making the performance even more meaningful when they finally shared it with everyone they loved.

A celebration made up of beautiful destinations

From a surprise proposal overlooking the cliffs of Santorini to exchanging heartfelt vows above the turquoise waters of Isla Mujeres, Leigh and Jonathan created a celebration rooted equally in romance and joy.

Every detail reflected what mattered most to them: meaningful experiences, beautiful destinations, unforgettable views, and creating lasting memories with the people who have supported them throughout their journey. It was a destination wedding that proved timeless elegance and genuine fun are the perfect combination.
