their love story

couples portrait ideas for wedding

We are high school sweethearts whose journey began at Bishop Kenny High School in 2019. Introduced by mutual friends, we were put together for junior prom, never meeting each other previously. We quickly became inseparable and officially started dating just two weeks afterwards. We have only ever been with each other. We are each other’s first everything, first person to ever date, hold hands with, first kiss, everything. We feel that makes our bond and marriage even stronger because we have lived so many life experiences together and have loved only each other. Our love story continued to grow as we both pursued our studies at Florida State University. From taking classes to celebrating our graduation together, we’ve cherished every moment of our journey and are so excited for what is ahead.

After we studied abroad the summer going into our senior year of college, we both decided that we had to find a way to make that dream a reality and find a wedding venue in Italy. Italy has a lot of popular wedding venues, especially on Lake Como and the coasts, but we fell in love with the homey feeling, food, and rich culture of Tuscany. I found our venue, Castello Di Montalto, on Instagram, funny enough, and toured it when I was visiting my family and fell in love with it instantly. It hit all of our key points, which included: secluded, all of our guests can stay with us, and NO MODERN LOOK. It was important to us to find a place that still contained the older historical look and feel, not necessarily what mainstream Italian destination weddings were at the time.

the vision: natural beauty

It was always our dream to get married in Italy; it was on my Pinterest board when we first started dating in high school. But I never thought that dream would become reality. We wanted to lean into the history. We asked our florist, Flowers Di Chiara, to keep the color palette limited to merely enhance the natural beauty of our surroundings. It was important to us to find a place that still retained the older, historic look and feel. Each part of the day was its own event in a different location of the castle. Ceremony by the gardens, aperitif in the tower courtyard, dinner in the main courtyard, and cake and fireworks in the front entrance. Thanks to our planner, Italian Wedding Designer, each part of the night had its own moment, and it was beautiful for us and our guests. They knew when we moved, something new was happening!

When designing, I had a very black and white vision. The castle was my color in our wedding and I wanted to make sure not to take away from its natural beauty. Since the castle was so old, I wanted to keep the timeless look with the rest of my design and decoration. All of my guests wore black, the women in our immediate family wore champagne/gold, and me in white. Looking back through the pictures, I absolutely love how the castle still stands out in its own beauty and the black and white theme didn’t take anything away from its natural look.

In true Italian fashion, the couple put the finishing touches on a traditional millefoglie. Then, the two raised a glass of champagne as fireworks lit up the sky in the distance.

The planning process was hard work, wedding planning and decision making was basically my second job, but I am so thankful for all the hard work because it really paid off. I did enjoy the process and looking back I miss it, but I am happy with the work I put in because I loved every part of our wedding. Although, the biggest takeaway for me from our guests was not in the way everything looked, or the design, or all the little details, but how they could actually feel love; love between us, from us to our guests, our guests to us, and even between each other. Our whole wedding was surrounded by love and you good feel it before it started to even now after it ended and that is by far the best part.
