For their wedding, Shuvi and Atef went all out on fashion for every single event, and lemme tell you, the fits are BREATHTAKING! They made a point to incorporate specific Indian and Western traditions that spoke to their heritage and who they are as a couple, and ditched the ones that just didn’t feel authentic to them. their love story

We met at Kansas State through a mutual friend, and what started with late-night Mario Kart turned serious fast. He fell first asked me to be his girlfriend a month in! I was a sophomore and he was a grad student. So I took my time -six months later, I said yes. Six incredible years later, he proposed at the Pasadena Princess Estate.

the vision: intention meets tradition

colorful sangeet

What made our wedding special was how personal it felt. With help from Composure Events, we leaned into tradition, but everything had intention behind it. Our ceremony was held at The Century Club in Kansas City, and we hosted our Haldi and Mehndi at the 1890 Event Space—both spaces gave us something distinct and beautiful. We went vibrant for day one, then all-white elegance for the reception: with rose, sweet pea, and hydrangea arrangements by Studio Dan Meiners. The tablescapes followed suit—warm, festive tones early on, then soft white florals and candlelight for the reception. One of our favorite design moments was the floating floral mandap, suspended in a circle overhead—it was surreal and serene all at once. Instead of a traditional cake, we served a mix of Western desserts alongside fresh paan, a post-meal ritual that carries significance in both celebration and hospitality in our culture. It was our way of honoring tradition while keeping the menu fun and personal.

And then there was the sangeet—a sunset celebration under glowing chandeliers, full of dancing, performances, and golden hour magic. It was cinematic and emotional in the best way. One of those nights we’ll be talking about forever. We didn’t do “his and hers” cocktails—instead, our drinks reflected the energy of each day. Day one was festive and vibrant, so we served a Violet Sunset Spritz to match the mood. Day two was more refined and romantic, so we added an Espresso Martini for a touch of boldness and balance.

For the ceremony, I wore a red Sabyasachi Heritage Collection saree, and for the reception, a Tarun Tahiliani lehenga that felt soft, romantic, and modern. I let the vintage dupatta drape loosely instead of the traditional structured style—it felt effortless and very me. My jewelry was all antique gold from the Tanishq vaults—not just for beauty, but legacy. We wanted our wedding to mark the beginning of something lasting, and these pieces will become our first generational heirlooms, passed down to our children as a reminder of where it all started.
