purple suit for groom

Ashley and Max’s wedding was all about adding a touch of whimsy to their romantic, organic, floral-filled day. Dreamy and delicate details were carefully curated to create an aesthetic that felt eclectic yet chic, and we can’t get enough! The couple knew they wanted a lot of bold colors, but after choosing the venue, they knew that they wanted colors that also complemented the unique aesthetic of the venue and the surrounding landscape. Everything about the day – the florals, tablescapes, and attire – reflected this choice. Keep scrolling to see how it all came together with the help of ROQUE Events and captured on camera by Nataly Zigdon.

Style fit for an elevated arts collective

The Marin Headlands Center for the Arts, located in the Marin headlands right across the Golden Gate Bridge, was the perfect venue that blended authenticity with a personal connection to the couple. Ashley and Max had hiked the hills around the venue countless times, and also connected with the Center’s purpose and aesthetic. Not only is it a refurbished military barracks, but it is also – and has been since the 1980s – a place for artists to live and work, making it a living art piece that reflected the couple’s collective style.

“Bendy and twisty” arrangements

For their ceremony, Ashley and Max included two of their closest friends – one officiated and another did a reading. They wrote joint vows that they recited to each other during the ceremony, at which the florist 100% delivered on their request to “go wild” for the ceremony. Ash and Oak Floral  stacked bendy and twisty arrangements on concrete pillars under twisted sets of branches for a statement making event.

A live cooking show

The caterer, Katie Powers, served rustic Northern California food on family style platters. The reception was in the old mess hall, which was essentially a dining room that abuts an open kitchen. The couple and their guests had the joy of having the whole team cooking their food right there. Both the bride’s and groom’s fathers gave toasts during dinner. After dinner and before dancing, the couple passed out tequila and limoncello shots and said a few words as a newly wedded couple to thank everyone in a fun and festive way. Dancing immediately followed!

After-the-fact-advice

“Start planning early to give yourself enough time to find your vision by looking at and considering options together as a couple. Time was key, and it allowed us to have the best day ever while avoiding unnecessary stress. Trust your instincts about what you like and don’t like – only you truly know your style as a couple. And communicate often and honestly about those likes and dislikes – it was so satisfying to see the final product and feel so great about every part of it. And of course hire Raquel – she provided us structure, feedback, and she executed on everything! We couldn’t have had such an amazing wedding without her.”
