To showcase the natural beauty of Andaz Maui at Wailea Resort, the overall design of this oceanside wedding by VOWS Wedding & Event Planning was clean and organic with a neutral color palette so the setting couple speak for itself. The couple’s neutral color palette focused on white and dusty blue with a hint of yellow for the accent color. With the focus on the stunning landscape and ocean, airy floral arrangements and wooden and wicker textures complimented the minimalist feel and brought a lightness to this oceanside affair, all captured on camera by Chris J. Evans.

A traditional Chinese tea ceremony
Because it was important to the couple to incorporate a Chinese cultural celebration as part of the celebration, the couple took part in an intimate Chinese tea ceremony in the hotel room.
An aisle of white petals
For the outdoor ceremony, wooden cross back chairs lined the aisle, which was peppered with white flower petals. An asymmetrical installation by Dellables Floral full of lush white blooms with blue and yellow accents perfectly framed the ocean backdrop without competing with its natural beauty. At the end, the couple walked down the aisle to a Hawaiian-inspired version of “Somewhere Over the Rainbow.”
Pops of blue patterns
The same design inspiration was carried into the reception, which took place under a sailcloth tent lit with twinkle-lights. Three wooden estate tables with wooden wishbone chairs and water hyacinth chargers served as a blank canvas to allow the Blue Willow vases to pop with lemon accents and lush florals.
A “something blue” reception dress
For the reception, bride Yichen slipped into a stunning blue tulle gown that was the perfect nod to the ocean setting. Its airy layers were reminiscent of the waves and floral appliqués added an extra touch of elegance.
Hawaiian-inspired cuisine
While guests enjoyed oldies from the 60’s, 70’s, and 80’s courtesy of Maui DJ Services, they dined on a traditional three-course meal that followed cocktail hour appetizers with a Hawaiian style twist, such as the spam roll and pineapple crab cake. Cocktails included musically themed titles such as, “Love Me Two Times” (Recipe: Tito’s vodka, creme de mure, fresh lemon and pineapple juice) and “Heaven is a Place on Earth” (Recipe: Duquesne Rum, Appleton rum, lime juice, orange curaçao, toasted almond orgeat and simple syrup).
The perfect small-wedding cake
With just 23 guests in attendance, this truly an intimate affair called for a simple two-tier, all white cake adorned with floral accents.
