Modern Chic Wedding Inspiration With a 70s Spin

Share

Romantic outdoor wedding table setting under pergola

Have you heard brides?! Retro chic is the trend on the rise for weddings in 2019, and if you can’t tell, we’re a little excited to see this trend take off in the wedding world. It’s a modern meets the 70’s love story inspired by June Carter and Johnny Cash, that’s a little funky and a whole lot of chic.

Sara Rae was the design + planning guru behind the scenes along with a talented crew of vendors, who all styled their hearts out for this retro chic inspiration for the Mrs. and Mrs. Read more about their work below, and catch the entire shoot in the full gallery

From Sara Rea

These days, there are less and less rules and traditions surrounding weddings. This elopement style design represents making your wedding day completely personalized to you. Sara Rae, the powerhouse that planned and coordinated this styled shoot felt the new Stay Lokal location in Fishtown was the perfect setting for this small, cozy wedding set up. Beautiful details, gorgeous landscape design, and a pergola perfect for a sweetheart table created an intimate and romantic environment. Mid-century modern furniture, tones, and styles were a great base to build from. Elements personal to the couple are sprinkled throughout.

Modern 70’s vibe

The inspiration for this shoot was purely based on a very new retro trend on the rise–a modern spin on the 70s vibe. As they worked to accomplish this style, they let Johnny Cash and June Carter’s incredible talent + style serve as the inspirat ion. We loved the idea of recreating an event that would do these iconic characters justice in the present. This team of vendors also wanted to highlight the inclusivity of today by featuring two beautiful brides as ‘Johanna + June’.

the sweetheart table

For their private dinner celebration, together the vendors, created an intimate, romantic glow to engulf them in the moment. Among soft greens, dozens of delicate votives hung with candles floating around them. The tablescape had mixed retro elements and very modern elements for a unique style combination. Keeping consistent with the ceremony, House of Catherine created gorgeous, modern menus to top the place settings.

The cake

The cake topper, menus and invitation suite were also created by House of Catherine. The cake topper was a great way to showcase the monogram as well, keeping the contrast and brightness of the “living coral” color. The modern place cards and menus created with acrylic, and an invitation suite that accented the delicate nature of Johnny Cash’s favorite flower being a rose.
