Hey there Chicago gals and guys, if you have ever wanted the perfect wedding location that both shows off the Windy City as well as has some serious early 20th-century class then we have got the place for you! We partnered with City Savvy Imaging to show off The Robey, and this whole vintage industrial chic wedding shoot is inspired by this beautiful piece of architecture.

Keep scrolling to learn more about The Robey and how it inspired this event, and then be sure to stop by the full gallery for even more inspiring photos.

Venue & Shoot Style :

This modernly styled shoot took place in Wicker Park which one of Chicago’s trendiest neighborhoods, at The Robey Chicago. The Robey is a character-rich historic building that was built in 1929 by two Belgian designers. The art deco building has been many things over the years but has currently been restored to highlight its best features with a mid-century, industrial feel.

The concept for this shoot began with The Robey Hall. This space has warm modern brass fixtures, exposed walls, and mid-century furnishings. A beautiful mix of styles that captured the exact feel I wanted to create in the decor and styling of the bride and groom.

The surrounding area of The Robey played an important role as the Chicago area is full of flat-iron buildings and beautiful vintage architecture that flows from corner to corner of the famous 6 corner intersection in which The Robey is perched. On the top level, you will see one of the most unique skyline views of Chicago you can have access to and is showcased in the rooftop location.

Dinner Table & Cake :

When the natural light in The Robey Hall is just right, the candlelight makes the room glow in gold light. The table settings included brass candlestick holders, vases and goblets to pull in the brass fixture above the table. The modern flatware also incorporated the gold color as well as the gold-rimmed salad plates. Shades of grey can be found in the cement vases, candlestick holders and chargers.

The cement accents pull the walls of the room into the dinner table as well as the cake. The 2-tier square cake integrated both the unfinished feel of the cement walls in The Robey Hall and the gold accents of the dinner table and bridal statement necklace.

Bride & Groom Attire :

The Bride’s dress is The Valentine by J. Mendel. The curves and the structured lines of the mid-century design are thoughtfully reflected in the pleated lines of the bodice of the dress. The Robey is a bold venue with green marble walls and dark masculine furniture. I incorporated the same feel in the groom’s Zeglio custom-made tuxedo and chose a grey jacket with a black lapel that compliments the elegance of the bride’s trumpet dress with veil and cape. The Bride’s necklace is a custom-made gold leather statement piece. The leaves in the necklace design are a direct nod to the olive branches featured in the bridal bouquet as well as the dinner table florals.

Florals:

The florals were chosen to represent a light romantic summer vibe of natural wild greens meant to incorporate the olive branch necklace but not steal the attention away from the Bride’s stunning beauty.

Invitations :

The custom-made invitations were designed with The Robey’s unique exterior architecture in mind as well as the history of Chicago reflected in the small details of the Chicago Flag’s 6-point stars found on the RSVP cards. Also found in the design is the gold accents used on the wax seal and envelope calligraphy.

Designer’s Inspiration:

As a resident and lover of Chicago architecture, I am constantly trying to find ways to highlight both the old and new architecture in my wedding photography. To me, the iconic landscapes and skyline views of Chicago are just as important in my photography as the couple who is being featured. I also admire a well-styled wedding that integrates wedding venues best features throughout all elements of a wedding’s design.
