We’ve consulted one of the most established and respected luxury wedding planners to help our brides and grooms. Brooke of Brooke Keegan Special Events was not only named a Top Wedding Planner by Harper’s Bazaar, but she has a celebrity client list that would make E! jealous. Brooke is sharing  her experience  and spilling 5 of the most common mistakes brides make when planning a wedding.

Telling friends your wedding date before you have secured a venue

Do not get caught up with excitement and start telling family and friends a specific wedding date prior to booking your venue. You might fall in love with a venue you that is not available on your date. Be sure to keep your date hush hush until you’ve signed your contract with the venue.

Make sure to schedule enough time for hair and make up for each member of the wedding party. Be sure to schedule at least 2-2.5 hours for the bride’s hair and makeup and 45 minutes per service for each member of the bridal party scheduled. That sets the tone and the timing for the entire day.

Timing depends on hair length, thickness, etc. – you should have a good idea from your trial.

Forgetting to budget for hidden/unknown costs

Remember to budget for the smaller hidden costs. There are many things you would never consider that you have to pay for. Think about power for the band, wedding night accommodations, dress alterations, restrooms, security, transportation, lighting, alcohol permits, tips etc. Kitty flats by Charlotte Olympia $490.

Not enjoying the process

No matter how stressful the process may be, sit back, relax, take it all in. Enjoy your family and friends. No wedding day goes exactly as planned so let it go and smile.

Trying to do it all yourself

At the VERY VERY least, hire a day of coordinator. At the VERY least hire a planner six weeks out. You want your family and friends to enjoy themselves and have a great time without the stress of having to be the “planner.” No one wants any guest to feel like they have to work on your special day.
