Handmade Vintage Carnival Wedding

There are so many noteworthy weddings to swoon over, but we have to say our next wedding is quite magical. James & Georgina set out to create a wedding that was bright, colorful and super fun. They wanted it to have a handmade feel that was overflowing with personal touches. They didn’t want their wedding just to say Georgina and James, they wanted it to shout it from rooftops. As you can clearly see, they did exactly that.

Captured by one of our favorite Australian wedding photographers Feather + Stone. You simply must see more of this handmade vintage carnival wedding in the full gallery by clicking here.

From Georgina:

When James and I started dreaming up our “Vintage Carnival” wedding, we had no idea just how rewarding all of our efforts would be on the day. Seeing our loved ones, both young and old, having a bash at croquet, my 92 and 99 year old grandparents eating fairy floss off a stick and watching everybody dancing the night away under strings of exposed bulbs and a night sky full of stars was truly the most magical experience of my life.

We set out to create a wedding that was bright and colourful and fun. We wanted it to have a very handmade feel and we made a lot of the little touches ourselves. We didn’t want our wedding just to say George and James, we wanted it to shout it from rooftops!! We had all these crazy ideas and Trudy and Nadia, the legends and creators of dreams, from Lovebird Weddings, brought them to life for us. It was so much more amazing than I ever could have imagined! And lucky for the us, the ridiculously talented Seth and Tenielle from Feather + Stone have captured our day so beautifully that for the rest of our lives we will be able to look at our photos and be transported back to the magical Big Top and the Spectacular that was our wedding!

How much fun is the ceremony site? Haystacks with mismatched blankets and a lace alter cabana. A rustic table was set up next to the cabana with a book and simple can of flowers for signing the wedding documents. There are a ton more photos in the full gallery to check out of the ceremony site by clicking here.

From Feather + Stone:

Working with James & George was an absolute joy. I’ve never seen two people celebrate with as much gusto as these two did. Documenting James’ expression as Georgina walked down the aisle has been one of the most memorable things we’ve ever witnessed. This was a celebration in every sense of the word, from the spontaneous dancing mid ceremony through to the dancing under the stars that continued into the wee hours of the morning. James & Georgina’s wedding really “them” and anyone who witnessed it, from their guests through to the vendors, saw it clearly. There’s something so amazing when two people put every bit of themselves, their personalities, their story into their planning, when it comes to the day it’s one of the most beautiful celebrations you’ll ever witness.

One of our favorite elements was the punch bar. Georgina and James set up a long table filled with mismatched vintage tea cups for the fruity punch. Such a clever and unique idea … don’t you think? The dining area was equally as fabulous. Still keeping with the mismatched theme, they lined the tables with mixed china and loosely arranged florals in a variety of vases. Each table had an old window frame propped up against it with that table’s guests.

The couple seemed to hit the nail on the head with each and every one of their selections, including their wedding stationery. Royal Steamline created their vintage carnival wedding invites. Royal Steamline also happens to be one of our Hand-Picked wedding vendors, you can see more of their work by clicking here.

Amelie Wedding Inspiration

Amelie is not only a heart-felt movie, but also has a ton of  lovely wedding inspiration throughout the film. So much inspiration that The Emerics created an outdoor garden wedding vignette inspired by the film. Filled with organic elements, quotes from the film and a very specific color scheme of greens and reds. Read on to hear more details from these Las Vegas wedding photographers. Do check out more Amelie wedding inspiration in the full gallery by clicking here.

We decided on small plants as favors too because Amelie has potted plants along the windowsill of her apartment and thought it would flow nicely with the organic vibe. Since Amelie was a waitress at a cafe in Paris, we decided on a menu board instead of individual menus on the plates. In the movie you can see her handwriting the menu on glass. And just to pay further homage to the movie itself, we chose a few of our favorite quotes and hung them alongside the escort cards.

Jason and I set out to create a wedding inspired by the French movie Amelie, which is our favorite movie of all time – our daughter’s middle name is Amelie, just as an indication as to how much we love it! I began to seek out the organic elements of the movie, as well as our favorite quotes to help us set the scene for a small, intimate courtyard wedding. The movie has a very specific color scheme of greens and reds, so we kept those colors throughout the design elements.

The narrator describes Amelie early in the movie as someone who enjoyed “life’s small pleasures : immersing one’s hand in a sack of grain, cracking the crust of a crème brulée with the back of a teaspoon or skipping stones on the Canal St-Martin.” We used burlap sacks with the word, amour, over the outdoor fireplace, we also used had a vase of river rocks for guests to write wishes for the newlyweds on, and of course, creme brulee was part of our dessert table.

A lot of the pieces were thrift store finds, such as the cake table, the suitcase, and the panel with fabric strips. We simply refurbished them ourselves to match our color scheme. We had our talented friend, Sarah Barajas, make the crepe cake, raspberry tart, and creme brulee. There were a lot of DIY elements throughout the decor, as well. Jason hand-sewed the burlap sacks and the burlap “cards” flag then made stencils for the letters. I painted the small terre cotta pots green then used sandpaper to give them a distressed look. We also designed and printed our own escort cards, place cards, and quote cards. The table covering was also made by the floral artist based on the vision we had.

A DIY Purple Rustic Wedding

Purple seems to be the rising star around here, it has graced our pages regularly in every shade imaginable. Honoring this love affair with the regal hue, we have  Natalie and Eric’s DIY purple rustic wedding held at the Twin Oaks House and Gardens in San Diego, California.

This secluded venue features artistic and poetic gardens inspired by love, imagination and tranquility. Obviously the couple wanted to capture all those things in their wedding decor and details, spending tons of time creating the centerpieces and DIY touches. Captured by San Diego wedding photographer Priscila Valentina Photography. You can see more in the full gallery by clicking here.

From Natalie:

We fell in love as coworkers at Starbucks. After two years of dating Eric popped the question and within a few days we were investigating venues. Immediately after seeing Twin Oaks House and Gardens we were sold. Eric and I felt that a woodsy/garden vibe seemed to capture our personalities well, and we tried to portray that in our decor as well as other elements in the wedding. Being the fourth sibling in my family to get married, we had a lot of support and experience to help us out.

As you know we adore a good chalk board sign. Natalie made this super cute one that says, ” If I was a flower growing wild and free. All I’d want is for you to be my sweet honey bee.” Underneath they listed the bridal party what a great alternative to a traditional wedding programs. Incredibly cute!

In lue of a candle or sand ceremony we opted for what is called “God’s Knot” which was a fun project for my mom and me to create, and now resides in our home as a meaningful decorative piece.

We spent a lot of time creating the centerpieces ourselves as well as the rest of the flowers for the wedding. My good friend and bridesmaid, Erin Alexander, created the incredible silk floral arrangement that is hung over the gazebo. Though the venue was beautiful by itself, we were able to add DIY touches here and there such as the chalkboard signs, which helped us save on our budget. We were also able to get creative with our guestbook, using a suitcase for notes in the place of your average book.

The venue’s staff was amazing, especially Megan, our Day-Of Coordinator who made everything run so smoothly. Our DJ, Paul Peterson, was a blast and perfectly captured the classic rock/folk vibe we sought. Last but not least, the amazing photographer duo from Priscila Valentina Photography captured our day better than we ever could have imagined. They were so accommodating, showing up early, and staying late so that we could get the most photos possible of the day.

Advice To Other Brides:
My advice to other brides who are wanting a DIY feel is to plan your projects well ahead of time so as not to become too overwhelmed. Most importantly, make sure to stay true to your vision no matter what opinions others may have. Remember, it is your wedding, have fun with it!

white sugar, for rimming
2 large limes, quartered

7 strawberries, quartered
1 cup white sugar
1 cup white rum
2 cups club soda
8 cups ice cubes

Directions
1. Pour 1/4 to 1/2 inch of sugar onto a small, shallow plate. Run one of the lime quarters around the rim of each cocktail glass, then dip the glasses into the sugar to rim; set aside.

2. Squeeze all of the lime quarters into a sturdy glass pitcher. Toss the juiced limes into the pitcher along with the mint, strawberries, and 1 cup of sugar. Pride and Prejudice Midnight Tea

Chicago wedding photographer Kortnee Kate Photography and event designer Dora Manuel of Viva Bella Events collaborated to bring you “Pride and Prejudice, Midnight Tea.” Designing an event around what would have been a late night tea reception after the wedding of Mr. Darcy and Elizabeth.

Held in Darbyshire, England in the late 18th century and overflowing with striking details and one of the fanciest wedding cakes we have ever seen. See more Pride and Prejudice wedding ideas in the full gallery by clicking here and read on to hear complete decor details.

The stationary designs are intended to capture the timelessness and formality of a late 18th century British courtship while infusing unexpected modern embellishments. In true “high tea” form, rhinestone encrusted escort cards are each displayed atop a single sugar cube foreshadowing the events to come with period-correct tea time details like teapots, cups and saucers—each appearing among prim swirly bits inspired by Jane Austen’s classic novel. We particularly love the subtle detail in the escort cards’ placement on the worn squares of the chess board complimenting the shape of the sugar cubes perfectly, as true to then as to present day.

Mr. Darby and Elizabeth’s invitations include traditional fonts—but formatted in a very new, dramatic way. Large, sweeping text playfully mimics steam from a teapot while silhouettes of bride and groom give a nod to pristine English cameos worn in the era. Classic Victorian patterns weave throughout each piece; but instead of pastels, we update the traditional palette to bold, rich hues of teal and black complimented by rich jewel tones. Silk tea bags nest inside vintage English tea cups—each elegantly tethered to a custom tag welcoming its guest with one of many inspirational messages pertaining to love, tea and sweetness, remaining true to the “Pride & Prejudice, Midnight Tea” design theme.

The lighting sets the tone as subdued yet energetic, cool blue, yet romantic, more “club” than “country club,” and strikingly true to our image of “the late night event of the era.”

The deep teal table linens chosen by the design time were rich in color and texture to set the stage for the opulence and extravagance of the setting. The linens and napkins are accented with brooches. The ruffled chair skirts are feminine yet bold in color and design.

Classic cameos are thoughtfully placed at each setting and vintage brooches adorn each swag in the table linen, candy dishes overflow with gems and pearls and hanging English tea cups reminisce our theme.

The grandeur of the time is accentuated with gorgeous centerpieces in rich jewel tones including Hydrangea, Roses, Cabbage, Eucalyptus, and other organic elements, all in a formal silver vintage footed vase. As often seen in the Georgian era as well as today, we’ve incorporated fruit to reflect abundance and prosperity. Additionally, we have impeccably dressed vintage silver containers for the occasion with sugar cubes, fruit, and flowers.

Our dessert table exudes noble and timeless British elegance with engraved cake labels placed delicately into impressive gem-laden stands and proudly displayed on the cake tiers aside their miniature counterparts. Each confection incorporates the luxurious elements of our imagined “Pride & Prejudice, Midnight Tea” theme; black lace and jewel toned satin and pleated ribbons adorn these opulent, sinful delights.

The sugar flowers are as reminiscent to the late 18th century fashion as they are to today’s haute couture adding to the whimsical mood of the theme. Each guest is delighted with a confectionery gift designed to welcome them personally to Darbyshire’s quintessential event of the era, the “Midnight Tea” reception of the esteemed Mr. Darcy and his new bride, Elizabeth.

Elizabeth’s brooch bouquet features vintage heirloom rhinestone brooches with a dupioni silk, satin, and organza stem treatment.

Carnival Wedding Ideas

In case you have not noticed, we love anything that is fun, whimsical and these carnival wedding ideas are as whimsical as it can get. Think outrageous candy bar filled with brightly colored sweets, delicious food, a hand-crafted pinwheel backdrop, and stunning floral selections. You will find all of these carnival ideas and more from A Style Collective along with tips and tricks to throw the ultimate carnival wedding. Be sure to see all the images in the full gallery photographed by Ryan Price. They are truly pin worthy.

Our goal was to strike a whimsical note while offering a nostalgic feeling and still keep the color palette lively and versatile. Red, powder blue, blush pink, and pops of black & white were the perfect match for this set. We played the colors up on the dessert table with our paper designs, a hand-crafted pinwheel backdrop, brightly colored sweets, and stunning floral selections. Our white washed vintage buffet server was brought to life. Traci at Cupcake Cachet created the most adorable, perfectly coordinating cake with ruffles, stripes, fondant, and a custom balloon topper.

Her bubble-gum cupcakes and cotton candy cake push-up pops were also a major focal point on our sweets table. We’re not sure which was sweeter, the look of her goodies with our paper goods and backdrop or the delectable taste of them all. Traci ROCKS. We also used bulk candy, salty popcorn, rock candy sticks, and donut parfait “sundaes” as extra carnival inspired nibbles. The paper goods we designed reflected this whimsical and bright vibe by serving as
unique additions to the displays. Fork picks, cupcake toppers and wrappers, cocktail glass tags, etc. are even more eye candy than the desserts alone.

We styled the simple but striking sweetheart’s table to coordinate perfectly with its pinwheel adornment, custom Mr. & Mrs. sings, pink and vintage lace table linens, LOVE frame backdrop, and a vintage replica Circus Animal Cracker tin for flowers. We’re not sure anything could have worked better for this set’s style than the beautiful red anemones, billy balls, blush peonies, and blue hydrangeas. The bride’s bouquet also had sweet blue and white lollipop accents and a pink and white striped cotton ribbon that left us swooning.

The idea for food and beverages was shown through our vintage wardrobe-bearing cocktail waitresses who toted red trays of indulgences from chicken & waffles to cotton candy martinis. Lori Alexander, with 7 Closets Vintage, was on set to offer her unique vintage wardrobe options and style these cocktail waitresses as well as our groom in his tasteful suspenders and bow-tie. Ventura’s Bridal of Houston provided the bride’s adorable and fun short dress that matched the nostalgic carnival theme so well.

We couldn’t let this shoot end without the addition of oversized balloons and pinwheels. Shooting amongst the Kemah Boardwalk and Carnival was the quintessential playground for these fun props and for Ryan to capture wonderfully with his artistic style of photography. The ferris wheel, carousel, games, sea wall, and energy of the Saturday crowd were the best backdrop we could have asked for. We were thrilled with the results. I think anyone would want to jump right into this scene upon viewing the photo playback. I can almost smell those bubble gum cupcakes! A huge thank you to all of the contributing vendors! You guys rocked this one and truly allowed us to have so much creative freedom and fun. Ryan Price did a remarkable job at telling the story through such beautiful images.

How to create your own Carnival Boardwalk Wedding

1. Color Palette
Select a color palette that is bold and brings in the opportunity for a carnival inspired vibrancy. Colors like a bright red, pink, yellow, or aqua blue are amazing to work with in décor elements from balloons to candy to flowers. If you feel hesitant to go too over-the-top, choose a classic black & white base and add one additional strong color for the punch.

2. Whimsical Décor
You may not want to get too “theme” happy, but even a few tasteful additions to your wedding décor that reflect carnival elements can be just the thing to make it stand out. Perhaps you love the idea of lollipops in your bouquet, a festive candy stand, outdoor game or prize areas, balloons, colorful tents outdoors, or dressed up cocktail waitresses.

3. Inspired Catering
Forget the standard buffet or meat & potatoes dish. Let your catering venue get creative with carnival inspired food selections or passed small bites like chicken and waffles, corn dog poppers, herb tossed French fries, funnel cake, or cotton candy. Perhaps for an interactive cocktail station you could have create your own spiked snow cones or cotton candy martinis.

4. Games & Prizes
This is the fun, self-explanatory part. Get your guests involved in more than just ‘oo-ing’ and ‘ah-ing’ about your wedding dress. Entertain them outdoors with games, juggling acts, balloon artists, etc. Do you have children attending? Have a face painting booth. Your adult guests will definitely feel young at heart the more interactive your lounge or outdoor cocktail hour is.

5. Attire
Inform your guests of the ‘feel’ of your wedding in your wedding invite or website by encouraging more casual, comfortable, or whimsical dress. Sundresses, bow-ties, and suspenders welcome. If you want to represent a certain ‘era’ like the 1950s or 1940s then, by all means, encourage them to partake. The more relaxed your guests are, the more fun they will have – especially on the dance floor. Allow your bridal party to wear knee length dresses and have a fun cocktail dress for yourself to change into.

6. Paper Goods
It’s a well known fact that your save-the-dates, wedding invite, and wedding branded paper goods set the initial tone of your event. Get creative with a graphic designer to portray the mood you envision for your big day. Adding confetti, touches of mini fabric pendant banners, hand-stamped hot air balloon, or carnival font-types can add in a whimsical note. Now your guests first impression is a unique one!

Nautical Wedding Ideas

Today we’re officially in love with the water. Our next feature showcases a ton of nautical wedding ideas from Libelle Photography for your nautical engagement and your wedding.

Inspired by the 40′s Milledgeville, GA located right on lake Sinclair. Inspiration for this shoot came obviously from the 40′s especially by Alfred Eisenstaedt’s famous photograph of a sailor kissing a nurse in Times Square on Aug. 14, 1945. The Libelle Girls just love the young playful passion in this photograph and of course the nautical and 40’s clothing. You can see the entire shoot by clicking here.

Libelle Photography

The first part shows the couple meeting at a casual fun summer brunch on the lake. The blue and red décor with many seashells, anchors, and little paper boats is a great inspiration for a wedding theme, bridal shower, rehearsal dinner, or engagement party. Most of the items are hand crafted and really easy DIY projects. Items that were used are: lots of spray paint, corals and anchors, rope, sand, shells, and many red and blue hand folded paper boats for the red velvet cake and cupcakes. Also the red napkins were folded as boats. The mini bottles filled with sand from the event’s location were the favors, and the menu also matched the decoration.

We have to say that the hanging wheel is a brilliant decor addition to any nautical themed event. Way cute … right? See the entire shoot by clicking here.

Vineyard Wedding At Justin Vineyards & Winery

Justin Vineyards in Paso Robles is one of those locations that you can count on for an exquisite vineyard wedding. Offering an elegant wine-country style wedding  amidst some breathtaking vineyards. Add in some beautiful florals by one of our Hand-Picked wedding vendors April Flowers and you are guaranteed to have a stunning event. See more of this Justin Vineyards wedding in the full gallery. Captured by William McKee. Be sure to check out more beautiful vineyard wedding by clicking here.

From The Bride On Justin Vineyards & Winery
Our wedding planning happened pretty easily. Jeff and I were living on the East Coast when we met several years ago. Over Christmas vacations, we would travel back to Los Angeles (where I grew up) to visit my parents and escape to the sunshine and warmth. It quickly became an annual tradition of ours to drive up to the Central Coast for wine tasting and relaxation, which is where we first fell in love with Justin Vineyards. When we arrived at Justin for the first time, the grounds blew us away. The location is secluded and peaceful – not only an escape from the big city, but even escape from the small towns in the area! It was a dream and when we went saw it we both remarked what a lovely spot it would be for a wedding. A few years later after Jeff proposed, we quickly knew that Justin would be our spot.

After selecting the location, the vendors were next up. I scoured website and blogs looking for inspiration for my own wedding and trying to match vendor styles with my own. I found April Flowers after coming across a blog that presented a wedding that I fell in love with. The flowers had a sophisticated yet rustic elegance, which was exactly what I wanted. The use of different textures and styles created depth and individuality and I knew then that April is who I wanted.

From The Blog on Her Wedding Vendors

William McKee the photographer was also instrumental in making our day so special. I found the photographer from the same blog where I found April. After several phone conversations and our engagement shoot, William quickly felt more like a friend and helped the day to feel so relaxed. Also, his work is so beautiful that we’re still having trouble deciding which ones to put into a book!
Niki and Jonnell of Events Redefined brought the whole thing together seamlessly. I had several vendors remark how thorough and well-planned everything was. They completely took the weight off my shoulders and made the day stress-free. Overall, we wanted our wedding to be a small and simple rustic wedding at twilight. (In fact, our wedding had only 35 people total, including us!) It was important to me to personalize our big day by handcrafting a large share of the decorations. My mom, bridesmaid, and I spent many summer evenings making burlap wreaths while drinking wine and enjoying girly conversation. Also, I’m a lace girl and looked for ways to incorporate it into the wedding. While not overtly obvious, there were lace-like details on the strung paper doilies around the cocktail/dancing tent and in the wooden clothespin decorations used on the cupcake table.”

Our inspiration for this shoot was the RL Ranch meets the mountains in the winter. With lots of rich texture, colors and patterns, we brought both elements together in the beautiful Sierra’s. Mammoth Mountain was the perfect backdrop for the shoot. Shooting at 3 locations on the Mountain; a Private Estate in Juniper Ridge, Tamarack Lodge and Dry Creek Bar and Terrace at the Mammoth Mountain Inn. Each location was perfect for what we were looking for.

Fusion Linens custom made the wood table and benches for the tabletop shoot. Elegant by Design did a great job capturing the ranch feeling within the florals, decor, pillows, runner and vessels used. The copper silverware and amber chargers were a great addition to the tabletop design, thanks to Signature Party Rentals. The cake was created by the fabulous Sweet Gems Cakes. The mini desserts and drinks to accompany it were created by the talented Chef Will Flores. The models hair and makeup was gorgeous thanks to Beauty-Full by Molly. The paper suite was perfect! Wiley Valentine always creates the most amazing paper goods. The stunning photos were taken by the talented Lane Dittoe Photogrpahy.

Captured by Diana Marie Photography and styled to perfection by Fleur:ology (who we had the pleasure of meeting at our little mixer.) All of this fall inspired wedding decor is surely to inspire you if you are planning an end of the year wedding celebration.

New Jersey Wedding Fernbrook Farms Wedding

Here at The Wedding Chicks, we love sharing a good wedding venue with you. Without an exception, Fernbrook Farms in New Jersey is a perfect place for all you tri-state brides looking for a little something rustic with a whole lot of elegance. With large gardens, vast lawns and farm fields, Fernbrook has a wonderful ability to transform itself into exactly what you are looking for on your day.

You can definitely see that in our next wedding from J-Anderson Photography. To see more of Fernbrook Farms Wedding be sure to click here. On a side note, how about those red wedding shoes from Manolo Blahnik. Super gorgeous.

From The Bride:

“Jeff & I knew that we wanted a wedding that was a little bit elegant, a little bit relaxed/outdoorsy and a lot of fun. We looked all over the tri-state area to find a wedding venue that could fit the bill without being a wedding hall and when we saw Fernbrook Farms knew that it was just right. Fernbrook has an 18th century farm house that has been turned into a bed & breakfast, a few semi-formal gardens & is a working 400 acre farm that the caterers source produce from for dinner.

The caterers helped us incorporate our favorite meat (pork!) into the menu, the florist helped make arrangements with vibrant flowers & succulent plants (to last forever!), our friend officiated to make our ceremony personal, our dog Sodapop joined in as part of the wedding party, all the bridesmaids/groomsmen choose their own outfits and the DJs pulled off a night of non-stop dancing!”

Red, Black And White Wedding Ideas

If you are a little bid edgy and love lace, this might be the perfect inspirational shoot for you. Styled by Very Merry Events with Latin romanticism in mind along with a color palette of red, black and white.

The bride wore there different Watters gowns to transform her from daytime sweetness to evening glamor. Each look had a little black lace in it to keep the theme flowing. It might be hard to get three wedding gowns, but we love the idea of slipping into a party dress for the reception. You can see more Red Black And White Wedding Ideas in the full gallery. All of this wedding glamour was captured by Lilia Ahner.

The invitations were in both English and Spanish to give a nod to Latin romanticism. Always a lovely gesture if you are having a mulch-cultural wedding. To keep the red, black and white theme the flower arrangements were placed in bright white milk-glass bottles. Using only white and red flowers in all the arrangements.

Vibrant Carnival Themed Wedding Ideas

County fair ribbons as table numbers and homemade heart-shaped suckers were only a few of the handmade details from Thomas and Jaelithe’s  carnival inspired wedding. This colorful explosion of love was based around all things that the couple loved most about each other.

Jaelithe said that being in love with her husband is like being at a carnival, although he doesn’t readily supply cotton candy as much as she would like. Pure cuteness. Jaelithe designed the invitations (about 8 times), the save the dates, and every sign and note at the wedding. Black Aves Dinnerwear By David Pressman Events

An Associate Member of the Royal Academy of Needlework, Sybil Francis was one of the first needlewomen in England. In the 1930′s, she embroidered a pillow that was translated into a copper print engraving and the first Aves dinnerware was produced. Black Aves with Gold was created at Gump’s request and launched as an exclusive for the store in 1987. A monochrome design with 22kt gold edges, the pattern represents the birds of paradise and was originally inspired by silk embroidery.

David Pressman Events designed an entire table around this iconic dinner wear. Complete with fancy lettering by Soolip and one stunning floral centerpiece by Krista Jon. To see the entire shoot by Aaron Delesie be sure to click here.

Homemade South African Wedding By Jacki Bruniquel

Bo is a Californian girl who fell in love with a South African boy and got married at the most beautiful gorge on the South Coast of Natal.

Against all advice, Bo went with a red and purple theme and spent many hours on all the details. She had a very clear vision of what she wanted and actually made most the pretty details in this wedding herself (roping in family and friends of course).

When she couldn’t find red polka dot fabric for the little girl’s dresses, she just made them herself! This lovely Homemade South African Wedding is captured by Jacki Bruniquel Photography.

Tennessee Red Wedding Ideas

Alexis and Jason really wanted to have a wedding that reflected their casual, fun-loving personalities. With only four months of planning months, they quickly decided that their dream wedding would include tacos, a pinata, a paper airplane exit, lots of warm colors, and a whole lot of fun. Alexis begin her DIY adventure , to read more on her planning process see below.

Bauman Photographers flew out from San Diego to capture this Tennessee wedding. To see the entire the wedding click here.

From The Bride On her planning process

From the minute we were engaged Jason and I knew that we really wanted our wedding to reflect our casual, fun-loving personalities. With Jason being from the West Coast and myself growing up in the South, we also definitely wanted our wedding to have a taste of both places. Somehow this California-Tennessee combination inspired what we called our vintage Mexican fiesta wedding! We both are creative people (Jason is a photographer and I’m a graphic designer) so we immediately had tons of ideas for making our wedding unique, memorable and totally US. With only 4 months to plan we quickly decided that our dream wedding would include tacos, a pinata, a paper airplane exit, lots of warm colors, and a whole lot of fun. After searching high and low for a rustic barn to no avail, we found Traveler’s Rest, a beautiful historic plantation with an updated barn on the grounds. Perfect!

It didn’t take long for our vintage Mexican fiesta theme to take place. So many parts of this wedding were DIY. We even took across the border to find decorations and inspiration! I quickly went to work designing the save-the-date postcards and then the invitations–both inspired by Mexican folk art. We wanted everything about the ceremony and reception to feel comfortable and fun, and we especially wanted to create a lot of personal touches. Using red and yellow as our main colors, we went to work making flower balls out of fabric, triangle flags strung together on twine, a cupcake stand covered in a yellow vintage-inspired paper and handwritten signs to hang on the bride and groom chairs. I found a beautiful old table cloth to drape over our outdoor picnic table and filled mason jars with red and yellow ranunculuses and lots of green stems to keep everything looking like they were picked fresh from the garden.

And then the real fun began! We held the ceremony on the plantation grounds under an old magnolia tree. Our bridesmaids wore red dresses they each picked out on their own, and the groomsmen looked sharp in their black suits and red ties. The reception was held at the barn with red, buttercup and ivory lanterns glowing over head. Our beautiful and delicious Mexican chocolate and coconut cupcakes were made from scratch by my sister-in-law and the taco bar was catered by a burrito shop, the local favorite for its fruit tea and pineapple salsa. The best part of it all was watching everyone come together and have a great time. The corner photo booth was constantly crammed full of guests making silly faces while wearing goofy hats and crazy oversized sunglasses. We danced. We laughed. We drank margaritas. In the end it really couldn’t have been any more uniquely us.

If Cherries and the color red does not represent love, then we really don’t know what does. Salt Harbor Designs really outdid themselves when they combined their love for cherries and color red in this inspirational shoot. Yellow, Blue & Red All Over Wedding Details

Jesi Haack is is beyond magnificent! Her wedding design and event planning skills are seriously off the hook. Sara and Michael wanted to do something bright, fun and personal. Read on to see how Jessie’s vision came to life.

Watermelon red. Vibrant blue. Sunshine yellow. The color combo alone is enough to flip me out! So, of course, Carissa from JL Designs and Melody from Sweet and Saucy Shop had to be along for the ride. The amazing girls at Posh Paperie really started the whole concept with their amazing invitation design! They really wanted it to be fun, different, and impacting while still capturing a classy and beautiful environment. This wedding is also a perfect example of how to distract from the sometimes difficult carpets and drapes of certain venues. The white chiavari chairs and white dance floor made the hugest difference to take your eye away from the abrupt colors of the venue!

Australia Never Looked So Pretty

We love when real brides send us their weddings! Especially when they are as pretty as can be. Audrey has been following us since she starting her planning process and shares with us that we were the greatest source of wedding inspiration while planning her wedding. We love that, because that is what it really is all about.

Most of Audrey and Ben’s guests traveled from Singapore to Perth for a little down under wedding celebration. The entire wedding was captured by Singapore wedding photographer, Nathan Wu. Enjoy this soft and romantic masterpiece.

First off, Audrey’s bridesmaids look ravishing in their non-traditional bridesmaid dresses. The soft red floral print on this playful number accents Audrey’s Vera Wang wedding gown flawlessly.

How adorable are these parasols? They definitely have a romantic vintage feel to them. Not only are these white beauties meant to provide a bit of shade for your maids, but they also can be used as a wonderful prop for a picture perfect photo.

They go for around $20 a piece to rent. You can find a similar parasol over at Bella Umbrella by clicking here.

After their wedding in Perth, they  flew over to Sydney to unwind a little, and took some shots. Check them out here.

Simple Outdoor Wedding Ideas

Our next wedding was shared with us by Carden’s Photography. The day looked so fun and unique that we had to share this unique twist on a wedding.

Set at Cook Forest State Park in Pennsylvania, the day began with a canoe ride, followed by some diy pb and jelly sanwiches and fresh fruit.

The dinner reception was located right next to the ceremony site in the park!  It was decorated 100% diy.  For wedding favors the guest received apples and flower seed packets. The flowers in the mason jars were picked at the park and arranged that day. Every guest had a role in helping prepare for the wedding. Flowers were handmade on site, as well all the decor and most of the food.

San Diego By Carter & Cook Event Co.

I am super excited to share with you a darling wedding that Carter & Cook Event Co. shared with us. It is a total show stopper. Filled to the brim with charming details, just how you like it. Read on because Carter & Cook Event Co. spills the beans on all the juicy details.

The wedding theme was Up, up, up and Away! Their engagement pictures were taken with lots of heart balloons, and they wanted to carry this theme into their wedding. See the Engagement Session Here.

Liz and Rich were married at the The Darlington House in La Jolla, California. I have passed by it personally many times and can vouch that it is an adorable place to get married. On that note if you are throwing around destination wedding ideas, La Jolla is one to add to the list of possibilities. Delightful beach town, full of activities for out of town guests. Not to mention there are a ton unbelievable wedding vendors right at your fingertips.

Speaking of unbelievable wedding vendors, he and she photography are the masterminds behind the lens of Liz and Rich’s wedding.

Liz and Rich are quite the creative duo. Liz came up with so many of the ideas, and the adorable groom got to creating!

They handmade dozens and dozens of fabric pendants to hang throughout the grounds of the The Darlington House. Rich and Liz also created a beautiful ribbon back drop for the ceremony. Imagine guests having to walk through a wall of ribbons to get their seats. Such a clever idea!

Another great idea that I think you might like was that each bridesmaid carried her own balloon down the aisle for the ceremony. Such a cute touch, and a creative way to save money on bouquets! The bridesmaid dresses were perfect for the color scheme for the day. Dresses can be found at Anthropologie.

Each guest’s seat had a cone filled with dozens of colorful and homemade pom-poms to throw as the two newlyweds ran down the aisle.

The tables had a colorful, eclectic mix of vases and wildflowers to fit the playful wedding mood. Modern Bouquet did a fabulous job on those, and Liz’s bouquet. Such bright and cheery colors!

A colorful candy bar was filled with fun sweets and cotton candy. Another table was full of red velvet cupcakes, the father of the bride’s homemade chocolate chip cookies, and hot air balloon shaped sugar cookies. Their guests enjoyed the variety and ability to pick and choose favorites.

Running with the Up, up, up and Away theme Liz and Rich also wanted to have a pinata at the wedding, so the groom, Rich, handmade a colorful paper mache hot air balloon pinata for reception. It was so much fun to watch the two of them give it a whirl. The pinata broke and was filled with dozens of tooth brushes and tooth paste in honor of the brides grandfather “Doc”. They also felt it appropriate as they severed many sweets during the afternoon reception.

Despite the rain forecast, the weather held off perfectly. The guests lined the streets and waved the handmade ribbon wands, as the two newlyweds ran off to their getaway car, it began to pour. Talk about perfect timing!

Carter & Cook Event Co. are preferred vendors and proud sponsors of The Wedding Chicks! There work is fantastic…check out some of their other work by clicking here.
