Real Mad Men Wedding Designed By David Tutera

Jason and Taylor love the impeccable ’60s-inspired style of the hit show Mad Men. They also wanted their wedding to  feel like a place they take clients for drinks and dinner. Seems simple enough … right? Apparently not,  Taylor had a hard time finding anything that looked like, “Mad Men” theme without looking cheap or cheesy. The only thing that seemed to be spot on with her initial planning process was our Mad Men Save The Date.

Lucky for Jason and Taylor, David Tutera from My Fair Wedding  came into the picture and took over. Arranging every detail for their Mad Men inspired wedding. The entire celebration went off without a hitch and was more then they could ever imagine. Read on to hear more from the bride and be sure to see more retro inspired wedding ideas from this real Mad Men wedding by clicking here. All captured by Matt & Molly Snelson of Mathieu Photography.

Filming with the crew was awesome. It sounds so cliche but by the end I didn’t notice the cameras. I felt like these were my friends from way back in the day and we were just catching up. Both Jason and I really gave David full rein of our wedding. We had no strings attached. We knew it was going to be fantastic. I don’t think we knew how amazing. I would have never dreamed that I would be doing a photo shoot on the set of “Mad Men” or to get married there. I mean I joked around with my family when they said, “What do you think David will do?” My response was, “Put us on the set to say I do.” I said it thinking no way on God’s green Earth was that a possibility.

Everything on my wedding day went off without a hitch, or if a hitch happened I didn’t know about it because the crew handled it. I got to be like so many Grooms. I showed up and got dressed and then married. I didn’t stress about the caterer, florist, or rentals. I sat up in the suite with my girls and Mom. That is the way everyone should get married.

Jason and I chose the theme of “Mad Men” because when we first got engaged I asked Jason what he wanted for the wedding. His reply was, “To get married in the Galapagos Islands, to not wear a tux, to have a “Seinfeld” themed wedding cake, a whiskey and cigar bar. I vowed to have him not wear a tux, to have a whiskey and cigar bar. I looked into the rest but they were kinda out there requests. From what I could do I thought I could make the whiskey and cigar bar have a lounge feel like in “Mad Men.” I wanted it to feel like the place they take clients for drink and dinner. Jason and I are big into retro fashion, especially the sixties, so the concept just kinda snowballed from there.

When I saw Jason at the end of the aisle, tears were instantly in my eyes. Jason and I have been together for 8 years. It was long over due, because I have known that he was “The One” since our first date. David and his team made Jason far more handsome than Donald Draper ever could be, which I know was an easy job. My officiant was my Uncle Timmers, it was his first wedding and truly I think he knocked it out of the park. Every tear shed was of pure happiness and love

My photographers were the only thing that I was allowed to keep when David changed everything, although if he had tried to change them I would have fought to the death to keep them. I know that they have been to some crazy weddings, but between the filming schedule and my family they were able to get the most amazing shots of Jason and I that I will cherish for a lifetime and more. Not only were Molly and Matt able to take charge and get the shots they needed to they are such professionals and amazing people that they brought out the true Jason and Taylor moments. Jason and I are not the most photogenic people, I know everyone says that, but truly, and Molly and Matt captured that day in the photos. I loved the way they both took pictures that had the booms and cameras in the shots it capture the true essence of that day.

All in all it was a beautiful wedding. Jason and I are truly blessed. We couldn’t have “Dreamed Bigger” as David says. Thank you to everyone who helped,. some of you I will never know but I want to personally say thank you for making my wedding everything I wanted and more.

Pride and Prejudice Midnight Tea

Chicago wedding photographer Kortnee Kate Photography and event designer Dora Manuel of Viva Bella Events collaborated to bring you “Pride and Prejudice, Midnight Tea.” Designing an event around what would have been a late night tea reception after the wedding of Mr. Darcy and Elizabeth.

Held in Darbyshire, England in the late 18th century and overflowing with striking details and one of the fanciest wedding cakes we have ever seen. See more Pride and Prejudice wedding ideas in the full gallery by clicking here and read on to hear complete decor details.

The stationary designs are intended to capture the timelessness and formality of a late 18th century British courtship while infusing unexpected modern embellishments. In true “high tea” form, rhinestone encrusted escort cards are each displayed atop a single sugar cube foreshadowing the events to come with period-correct tea time details like teapots, cups and saucers—each appearing among prim swirly bits inspired by Jane Austen’s classic novel. We particularly love the subtle detail in the escort cards’ placement on the worn squares of the chess board complimenting the shape of the sugar cubes perfectly, as true to then as to present day.

Mr. Darby and Elizabeth’s invitations include traditional fonts—but formatted in a very new, dramatic way. Large, sweeping text playfully mimics steam from a teapot while silhouettes of bride and groom give a nod to pristine English cameos worn in the era. Classic Victorian patterns weave throughout each piece; but instead of pastels, we update the traditional palette to bold, rich hues of teal and black complimented by rich jewel tones. Silk tea bags nest inside vintage English tea cups—each elegantly tethered to a custom tag welcoming its guest with one of many inspirational messages pertaining to love, tea and sweetness, remaining true to the “Pride & Prejudice, Midnight Tea” design theme.

The lighting sets the tone as subdued yet energetic, cool blue, yet romantic, more “club” than “country club,” and strikingly true to our image of “the late night event of the era.”

The deep teal table linens chosen by the design time were rich in color and texture to set the stage for the opulence and extravagance of the setting. The linens and napkins are accented with brooches. The ruffled chair skirts are feminine yet bold in color and design.

Classic cameos are thoughtfully placed at each setting and vintage brooches adorn each swag in the table linen, candy dishes overflow with gems and pearls and hanging English tea cups reminisce our theme.

The grandeur of the time is accentuated with gorgeous centerpieces in rich jewel tones including Hydrangea, Roses, Cabbage, Eucalyptus, and other organic elements, all in a formal silver vintage footed vase. As often seen in the Georgian era as well as today, we’ve incorporated fruit to reflect abundance and prosperity. Additionally, we have impeccably dressed vintage silver containers for the occasion with sugar cubes, fruit, and flowers.

Our dessert table exudes noble and timeless British elegance with engraved cake labels placed delicately into impressive gem-laden stands and proudly displayed on the cake tiers aside their miniature counterparts. Each confection incorporates the luxurious elements of our imagined “Pride & Prejudice, Midnight Tea” theme; black lace and jewel toned satin and pleated ribbons adorn these opulent, sinful delights.

The sugar flowers are as reminiscent to the late 18th century fashion as they are to today’s haute couture adding to the whimsical mood of the theme. Each guest is delighted with a confectionery gift designed to welcome them personally to Darbyshire’s quintessential event of the era, the “Midnight Tea” reception of the esteemed Mr. Darcy and his new bride, Elizabeth.

Elizabeth’s brooch bouquet features vintage heirloom rhinestone brooches with a dupioni silk, satin, and organza stem treatment.

Rustic Table Decor Ideas

To make sure you have a few steal worthy ideas for your next event,  Caroline & Evan Photography and Every Last Detail collaborated to bring you some rustic table decor ideas. Not only are they eye-catching, but they are doable and affordable. The best combination in our book.

Perfect for your wedding, rehearsal dinner or whenever you feel like entertaining. With hand-drawn place-mats that incorporate your menu, custom wine labels and buckets of flatware,  you have a rustic elegant table scape. You must see all the images in the full gallery by clicking here.

From Every Last Detail:

The linen, known as a “Dress Up” linen from Under Stella’s Umbrella, was a little rustic and a little elegant. So I decided to go with a more casual take on the tablescape, incorporating a more “picnic” feel to everything. A&P Design Co. created hand-drawn place-mats that incorporated a menu, killing two birds with one stone. They also created a custom wine label, allowing for a bottle wine to be placed on the table family-style. Add in buckets of flatware, a tray of rosemary rolls with olive oil, and mason jars to act as place-cards, and you have a rustic elegant tables-cape!

Some other fun details: FiftyFlowers had a rosemary wreath that escort cards were attached to, and I also added little Mr & Mrs signs to the antique chairs that were at the table.

We love the plaque chalkboard stickers. For $9 you get 15 you can use them for table numbers or place cards. Place them on miss mismatched vintage glass bottles or the tried and true mason jars.

Striped Bridesmaid Dresses

When it comes to bridesmaid dresses, you know we are all about the cuteness factor. Take the striped bridesmaid dresses in our next feature for example. With a slim waist-defining belt and  statement making stripes, these girls have it going on. Not to mention their personalized gold spoon necklaces. Of course, there is so much more loveliness to Jake and Heather’s fun filled wedding that you must read on to find out more. You can see all the photos captured by D’Avello Photography by clicking here.

Heather and Jake and been engaged for years, but the task of pinning down a cohesive feeling for the day was a daunting task. They finally said enough was enough, set the date and planned a wedding in just two and a half months. They decided to only use things that said something about them. The bridesmaids wore striped body suits that were reminiscent of Heather’s self-proclaimed Hamburglar look. She made them spoon necklaces with their nicknames stamped into them, and hair jewelry with cameras (that actually flashed) as a nod to her job as a videographer and editor. The guys had boutonnieres with guitars and guitar picks for Jake’s musical prowess. The floral arrangements were made from dried flowers. Heather spent weeks combing through thrift stores and ebay listings to find vintage jars, plates, vases, pitchers, cameras, typewriters and 1 sewing machine. Jake is from Yosemite and they captured a rustic feeling with log rounds and the florals. They opted for a less traditional ceremony their guests stood around them as his father married them. They skipped the DJ and instead asked their many talented friends (and guests) to perform for them. Everywhere you looked you saw pictures of their life or items that exemplified their love. It was warm and connected and perfectly Heather and Jake.

In the bride’s words:
”I just planned, partied, and survived a wedding, and we did it all in just 2 months and exactly 2 weeks!!! And honestly, it was the GREATEST WEDDING I’VE EVER BEEN TOO.  My Husband and I had THE BEST FREAKING TIME AT OUR WEDDING!!!! It’s still being hailed as the party of the year!!!   Now granted, the year is young, and I’m sure we’ll have some competition.  But for us, our Wedding Day was personal; we served food we liked, we decorated with odd knick knacks that embodied our charm, and we brought love out of even some of hippest and coolest of our friends.
We skipped on many of the traditional things people do with weddings; like table numbers and seating charts. We did what worked for us. We cut out customary activities that didn’t interest us, like a cake cutting, and a garter toss. For my Dude and I, enjoying ourselves was the most important aspect of this whole process.  We wanted to chat, to dance, and to take silly photos with friends.

The groomsmen had tiny guitars and picks in their boutonnieres and the bridesmaids had tiny cameras that actually flashed. Heather made them necklaces from tiny spoons (an obsession of hers) with their nicknames stamped on them. Super cute!

People come to a wedding to celebrate YOU, and I think that gets lost in the whole wedding process.  Brides and Grooms too often fall prey to becoming Hosts at their own wedding. A Wedding is YOUR party to decorate how you want, serve the food you like to eat, and entertain in ways YOU LIKE TO BE ENTERTAiNED.

I should begin my story by saying, I’ve been with my dude for almost 10 years now; and engaged for 4 of those years.  It was me who was stalling, not because I wasn’t sure, or that I doubted my choice. Rather, I was never a girl who had envisioned her wedding day.  I wasn’t one of those Gals who’d kept a notebook of magazine clippings hidden under her bed; inspiration for her future Wedding Day.   I was starting from scratch.  And, anytime I started planning, or investigating I should say, I was overwhelmed by costs, by friends and family insistence on certain traditions, on color scheme, and themes, etc.  I had too many ideas, too many plans; too many projects.  I got sidetracked, doubted my instincts, got frustrated then gave up.
There is this slew of information out there of possibilities for your wedding.  Magazines, Pinterest, Etsy; they offer so many choices, so many charming suggestions for atmosphere, for decorations, for desserts even. I’m a Film Director, Photographer, and Writer.  The way my brain computes is in visuals, and in stories, and this story was extremely personal. But when it’s your wedding, it’s about you and your mate, and the people you are vowing to be. People are seeing the most intimate side of you. I learned A LOT of valuable lessons over the last 4 years.  Weddings are one of the most stressful, exhausting, expensive, and yet one of the greatest times of your life.  You should enjoy yourself and your wedding.  It should be the best party you’ve even been too!”

The reception was full of vintage cameras, typewriters and even a sewing machine. The bouquets, centerpieces and decor were crafted from mesh screens and dried flowers. The beer, cupcakes and food were gluten free. And the entertainment? The entertainment was provided by their closest friends who took turns playing songs on stage.

Classic Ballroom Wedding From Emily Steffen Photography

White lush flowers mixed with winter greens and tons of candles in elegant mercury glasses makes this classic ballroom wedding a show stopper. Not only is the wedding sophisticated and stylish, but the photographs are equally as gorgeous. Captured by one of our Hand-Picked wedding vendors  Emily Steffen Photography. You can see more of this Minnesota Ballroom wedding in the full wedding gallery.

From The Bride:

We were looking for a warm, intimate feeling that would fill the space. I was really inspired by the venue, 317 on Rice Park, by the warm, rich colors, the big windows with natural light, the beautiful, giant fireplace for a winter setting. We were interested in lush, white flowers with some winter greens and natural elements paired with A LOT of candelas in mercury glass. And I mean A LOT of candles. I wanted full, lush tables with warm glowing candle light to greet guests when they walked in. I love the chairs and our flower designer, Melissa, spruced them up just perfectly with the natural twigs and flowers on the backsides. It gave height and interest to the space around the table.

We absolutely LOVED the outcome, plain and simple! I had a general idea that I tried to communicate to Melissa, but am a firm believer that flexibility yields the best results! She really nailed the feeling we were looking for; it surpassed all of our expectations! The room was absolutely stunning and some of the details – such as the blueberries in the candles and flowers on the chairs- were a total surprise! We loved it!

From: Brooke Keegan Events

Our inspiration for this shoot was the RL Ranch meets the mountains in the winter. With lots of rich texture, colors and patterns, we brought both elements together in the beautiful Sierra’s. Mammoth Mountain was the perfect backdrop for the shoot. Shooting at 3 locations on the Mountain; a Private Estate in Juniper Ridge, Tamarack Lodge and Dry Creek Bar and Terrace at the Mammoth Mountain Inn. Each location was perfect for what we were looking for.

Fusion Linens custom made the wood table and benches for the tabletop shoot. Elegant by Design did a great job capturing the ranch feeling within the florals, decor, pillows, runner and vessels used. The copper silverware and amber chargers were a great addition to the tabletop design, thanks to Signature Party Rentals. The cake was created by the fabulous Sweet Gems Cakes. The mini desserts and drinks to accompany it were created by the talented Chef Will Flores. The models hair and makeup was gorgeous thanks to Beauty-Full by Molly. The paper suite was perfect! Wiley Valentine always creates the most amazing paper goods. The stunning photos were taken by the talented Lane Dittoe Photogrpahy.

Romantic Table Decor From Alchemy Fine Events & Isari Flower Studio

Black and white will always be a front-running trend in the wedding world. It is classic, elegant and timeless. There are endless ways to personalize this palette to make it all our own.  Alchemy Fine Events & Isari Flower Studio collaborated on an old Hollywood inspired table using these timeless colors.

Framed by the hotel’s crystal chandelier, delicate drapery and stunning black and quite checkered floor. The majestic table-scape came alive with luminous candles set aglow amidst cut crystal, urns and interesting shaped decanters. Photographed ever so beautifully by Luna Photo. See more romantic table decor ideas in the full gallery.

From Alchemy Fine Events on the super luxurious art deco inspired stationery:

To complement Isari’s floral palette of green, white and black, I created a super luxurious art deco inspired menu with a chinoiserie flair including illustrations in an aqua, green, black and white color palette. An intricate laser cut belly band featuring art deco and chandelier designs encompassed the folding menu that opened up to showcase delicate butterflies and romantic calligraphy.

Tam of Isari Flower Studio,  describes the stunningly romantic table scape:

To showcase the gorgeous La Valencia Hotel in La Jolla we created an old Hollywood inspired table featuring sparkling cut crystal and a winter palette of black and white framed by the hotel’s crystal chandelier, delicate drapery and stunning black and quite checkered floor.
The majestic scape came alive with luminous candles set aglow amidst cut crystal, urns and interesting shaped decanters.

We selected winter white blooms such as amaryllis and anemones with it’s black centers, reflecting and resonating the black touches from the other details such as the black chivaris. Giant ranunculus, azaleas, pierris, and parrot tulips snuggled up close with carnations while small wintyer cyclamen plants were placed under glass cloches for an interesting surprise.

Glass candlesticks, bud vases, and other interesting shaped old world classic vessels were scattered amidst the arrangements for a multidimensional and interesting effect . For a dramatic statement we tied on large black satin bows a la Chanel around each place setting to remind each guest that their presence was a gift. For an additional sweet detail, green and white chocolates were custom designed as an additional touch to offer guests.

Santa Barbara Historical Museum Wedding

This is our last wedding before Christmas and we thought we would leave you with a really beautiful wedding from Braedon Flynn Photography.  A black and white stylish affair held at the Santa Barbara Historical Museum.

The entire event is positively chic without even trying. The bride goes into more detail about the venue, special moments and how she create a vintage look for less that you must read. Be sure to see all of the beautiful images in the full gallery by clicking here.

From the bride, Megan

The morning of the wedding, as I was getting ready with all the girls in the hotel room, we got a knock on the door. It was Dave’s brothers and they had a gift for me that they brought that was from Dave & Dave’s family. Dave’s mom, Lucy, had a cross necklace made for me as a wedding gift; it was a replica of a cross necklace, that she has had in her family for years. It was so special to her to be able to pass this on to the her “new daughter” as a way to welcome me to their family. It was a gold cross with pearls and a green precious stone in the middle. It was so special to me to be given something so beautiful and something that has such meaning. Unbeknownst to Lucy, I had borrowed a vintage family bracelet and earrings from my grandmother to wear for the wedding. Pearl earrings and a vintage green emerald bracelet. When I paired all three together and put them all on with my dress, the combo of all three was perfect. It meant the world to me to be wearing such beautiful pieces that came from both my family and my new family.

Walking down the aisle with my dad was another one of my favorite moments. My parent’s toast to us was also incredible. Having been married for 35 years, they gave us words of wisdom, advice and told such great stories. Every guest came up to my parents to thank them that night and that meant so much to us.

Once we met with our florist Kim, from Toast Santa Barbara and we chose all of our white flowers (hydrangeas, garden & polo roses, anemones, white veronica, etc. , we realized that we could save a lot of money by providing our own flower containers. We began collecting all of our flower containers… vintage mason jars, vintage milk bottles, small glass jam jars (peeled labels off), french lemonade bottles from Trader Joes, Starbucks Frappuccino bottles (labels off)… literally anything in a glass jar that I found in my kitchen, I examined to see if I could use it as a flower jar…When it all came together on our long banquet tables, I really loved the look of all the different shapes and sizes of the glass bottles as our floral centerpieces. Such an easy way to save some money & create a vintage look for less.

For the ceremony aisle (and along the entire length of the grape pergola) we envisioned hanging mason jars hung with twine filled with white flowers, succulents and greenery next to hanging jars with lit candles. We rented 2 wine barrels to be the focal point at the end of the aisle and covered them with a lush spread of hydrangeas, succulents and candles.

DANCING! Our band and our DJ were INSANE. They played back and forth all night long. The best thing you could ever wish for when throwing a great party, is that the dance floor never be empty. The dance floor was never NOT FULL.

The bride wore there different Watters gowns to transform her from daytime sweetness to evening glamor. Each look had a little black lace in it to keep the theme flowing. It might be hard to get three wedding gowns, but we love the idea of slipping into a party dress for the reception. You can see more Red Black And White Wedding Ideas in the full gallery. All of this wedding glamour was captured by Lilia Ahner.

The invitations were in both English and Spanish to give a nod to Latin romanticism. Always a lovely gesture if you are having a mulch-cultural wedding. To keep the red, black and white theme the flower arrangements were placed in bright white milk-glass bottles. Using only white and red flowers in all the arrangements.

Movie Colony Hotel Wedding

You can always count on Palm Springs for a stylish wedding. Amy and Ethan had their ceremony at the Elvis Honeymoon Hideaway and then headed to the Movie Colony Hotel for their wedding reception.

Keeping everything super Palm Springs, they had an Elivis impersonator as a DJ and as you see, some very stylish retro invites. All designed by the bride. After guests danced the night away, they were treated to custom doughnut boxes from Dough a Deer that matched their wedding stationery. Nothing like a sweat treat to end the night.

Lakeside Chic Wedding From Ryan Ray Photography

A simple and elegant Lakeside wedding from one of our favorite The Hand-Picked Vendors wedding vendors Ryan Ray. He is the most charming Texas photographer and we just adore him. Enough gushing, let’s get back to the wedding, it has all the glamour & style of a big city wedding with the quaintness & comfort of the the piney woods of East Texas.

A few snippets that we would like to share are that the bridal party was encouraged to wear their own choice of shoes and statement jewelry so that they could feel unique and comfortable, and the typical bouquets were swapped for custom over-sized clutches, each adorned with a feather brooch. Be sure to see the entire gallery by clicking here.

Black Tie Boston Wedding

A perfectly lovely Jamaica Plain’s wedding held at the historic Loring-Greenough House. You might want to take note of a few steal-worthy ideas. One being the vintage hankies used as a wedding invitation and later thoughtfully framed. A perfect keepsake.

To see more images from this black tie affair with a vintage vibe, be sure to click here. Captured by Tyra Bleek Photography. Do share with us how much you are in love with the ombre cake. Amazing right?

It is becoming a popular tradition to use vintage typewriters as an alternative to your traditional guest book. Guests get involved and you also have a lovely little decor piece for your new home. Hopefully this trend does not fall out of fashion. We are curious to see what you think about it?

Dogs truly are part of your family and it is always lovely when couples incorporate them into their weddings. Our next couple placed their pooch’s face on homemade beer bottles. Making him the official spokesperson of the wedding. A definite steal-worthy idea.

Speaking of ideas, we also love that they wrote out all the beverages they will be serving on a chalkboard. A clever alternative to an open bar and a bit more cost effective.

Art Deco Wedding by Megan Ann Photography

Monika & Joe were married in downtown San Diego at the The Ultimate Skybox. Their vision from the beginning was a travel/art deco/old Hollywood affair with closest family and friends. Monika designed every detail, including all of the flower arrangements.

Since Monika is from Poland they incorporated the Polish tradition of presenting two shot glasses to the bride and groom. One containing water and the other containing vodka. Whoever picked the vodka is said to “wear the pants in the relationship.” You can tell by the photos who found the vodka.

Quebec Wedding With Casual Charm

How are the wedding plans going? Hopefully your feet are up and you are sipping on a latte getting your weekend wedding inspiration on. Here is a little number from Canadian wedding photographer, Jennifer Ballard Photography.

Molly and Mike’s wedding was in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. The ceremony was in Rockcliffe Park in Ottawa. They had bells on each chair for guests to ring instead of throwing rice or blowing bubbles. This was a huge hit and the wedding officiant had the crowd ring their bells at certain parts of the ceremony.

The reception was at a cute little restaurant called Le Hibou (The Owl) in Wakefield, Quebec about 30 minutes away.  Their wedding was the first wedding reception to be held at Le Hibou. It is such a gorgeous location right on the Gatineau River. Molly used fun shadow puppets she got on Etsy as part of the table decor.

There are ton of more fun details that you can check out here.

Romantic Santa Barbara Beach Wedding

One of our favorite event planners, Jill of La Fleur Weddings shared with us this elegant beach wedding. How about the amazing floral designs by Mindy Rice - stunning.

It was a clean, chic, simply elegant wedding that played up the natural wood and white elements of Bacara’s architecture while adding chic beach coral, mercury glass, lots of candle light and sheer fabric-draped twinkle lights overhead. It was so romantic. The candy bar was all in white to keep with the clean design and the cake was amazing-as they always are at Bacara! The Rotunda was turned into a cozy Zen lounge complete with white sofas, dance floor, bar and of course a Buddha.

The Parker Palm Springs

We hope that everyone is having a beautiful spring day!

Thanks for sticking around to see the follow up on Diana and Andy’s modern reception at the ohh so stylish Parker in Palm Springs, California.

You can see their surprise courthouse wedding here. All of this wedding goodness was brought to us by the ever so talented Laguna Beach wedding photographer Barber Photography!

Read on to see how this Orange County couple made this jazzy day possible.

All from Diana the bride.

The majority of the guests thought they were attending a very intimate party celebrating our relationship, the other half thought we were going to do a secret commitment ceremony.

Overall, they knew it was going to be party, but to what extent they had no idea. (Andy was very adamant about not getting married so people were thrown off….But knew we would do something in celebration of us and our family). The two flanked flat screens playing our slide-show surprised all! Which shared the surprise of the court house ceremony in the form of a slide show.

I took a more glamorous, old Hollywood look for the Palm Springs wedding reception based on my surroundings at the Parker in Palm Springs and the fun nature of our party. Two different days = Two different looks.
Our reception party food ranged from mini ahi-tuna tartar tacos as passed hor d’ouvres to mini-cheesecake, Doughnut holes and churros for dessert. The Parker did it all!

Devynns Garden created these stylish welcome/take home gifts-mini succulent potted plants with black rocks. The ribbon that is tied around the pots is the same ribbon that was used in the bouquet for the courthouse wedding. Love that!

Orange County Courthouse Wedding

Before you start peeking at our next real wedding, note that there will be more of this modern goodness. Thanks to Laguna Beach Wedding Photographer, Barber Photography.

We will begin with the secret courthouse wedding of Diana and Andy who both love surprises. Read on to hear the entire story. Which in fact is quite a nice read that I am sure you will enjoy. Diana and Andy are both in the digital world as well. Andy owns his own online marketing company, ADISN and Diana has an amazing blog called tbwap.

From Diana, the bride.

We love surprises, that is why we did this event the way we did, it all worked out once we realized The Parker was available the weekend of Thanksgiving, since we met 5 years ago that same holiday weekend. We planned our 2-day day event/surprise one night in June over a beer and a glass of wine. We picked out colors, ideas, looks and began reaching out to vendors we knew and liked from past experience.

Day One- Secret courthouse wedding at the Historic Santa Ana court house. We were married on our 5 year anniversary date; Tuesday November 24th.

My bouquet was designed by Devynns Garden which is in Huntington Harbor. I took a huge risk asking for fuchsia peonies this time of the year, since it is very rare for them to be in bloom. I had ordered the black and white striped ribbon to keep it modern and fun and would tie in with our whole look.

Our son was a big part of both events. Oliver Henry, at the time just turned 2, was a huge part of our day. We wanted him to be involved with the documenting of our day at the courthouse, since it was intimate and special to our little family.

We wanted to keep him looking cool and casual, very California and our style so we dressed him in a Stella McCartney for Baby Gap skinny jeans and tuxedo blazer, a Jacadi collared shirt with Vans checker slip-ons to match dad’s shoes.

My dress is by Priscilla of Boston the Platinum line and my shoes are Louis Vuitton. I had removed the beaded belt and had a custom black tiered tie belt created to get more of a Alice in Wonderland meets Audrey Hepburn feel. I did two very different looks for my 2-day event. My wedding day, I stuck with an au natural bridal look, very clean. Stay tuned for the reception look and feel.

Andy’s suit is a Hugo Boss with euro cut and the tie is by Jon Varvatos

JL Designs + Bella Weddings & Events = Classic Wedding

classic wedding ideas

Mollie and Jim where married at the Bel Air Bay Club in Pacific Palisades., a venue describe as an exquisite blend of timeless Hollywood glamour and universally-recognized luxury. Which also sums up the look and feel for Mollie and Jim’s seaside wedding that JL Designs was so sweet to share with us.

If you where searching for some elegant black and white wedding ideas we have got them for you. Bella Weddings & Events designed a classic glamorous venue with a twist of fun. That twist of fun is a hot dog stand. How great is that? After a long night of dancing it is always nice to top it off with a hot dog.

black and white wedding ideas

I love reading Carissa’s descriptions of her designs. Bridal bouquet made up of white mini calas, white ranunculas, white japhette orchids and white tulips…adorned with a vintage inspired rhinestone brooch… Something about how she describes the flowers sounds so fancy.

These bridesmaid dresses are ohh so special. The ruching detail is incredibly flattering and adds that bit of flair that I feel bridesmaid are looking for these days.

A quad of tall glass rectangular vases were filled with submerged white dendrovium orchids and set on top was a large arrangement made up of ivory hydrangea, ivory dahlias, cream colored reflexed roses, white tulips and white ranunculas. A medium sized box was wrapped in taupe dupioni silk and accented around the base by a ring of loose white flora. Set on top was a series of 5 different height rectangular vases holding submerged white dendrovium orchids and a white floating candle…

Again it looks as glamorous and elegant as it sounds.

The hot dog stand is from Let’s Be Frank… again I am all for this fun twist at the end of an elegant evening. I checked it out for you and am not sure what the price is but I do know that the 100 % grass-fed beef frank dogs and they also offer veggie dogs.

A South Carolina Wedding From Ashley Brokop

ashley brokop photography

Ashley Brokop is pretty great and we love the way that she captured this South Carolina wedding. Filled with good old fashion fun and a the couple looks like they are a ton of fun. Do you love the photo of the bride walking into the church?

I had a little chuckle when I saw the photo, it was actually the image that sold me on posting the wedding and then as I dove more into I fell in love with the good old fashion fun.

A Vintage Chicago Wedding From Mark Romine Photography

Chicago wedding venue

Nothing says gorgeous like a bird cage veil. Well… at least that is my opinion. Mark Romine Photography did an ultra fabulous job of capturing the old fashion look and feel that Sara and Ben wanted to capture. There are so many additional lovely photos that I know you will want to see. You can see them by visiting here.

I also wanted to mention that Sara also wrote her own blog post on Mark’s site, sharing all of her inspiration and inside details. If you are planning a Chicago wedding, she has some great finds.

The girls wore black Jackie O. shift dresses and small birdcage veils to match. Ben, the groom was in a cut-away tux and Sara in a very old-fashioned, yet somewhat modern, lace and taffeta gown. The best part was her hat and veil, which she fell in love with at the bridal salon at first glance! She has some great things to say about Dimitra’s Bridal in Chicago over on her post.

An Old Fashion Vegas Wedding Ideas.

Vegas Wedding Ideas

Chelsea Nicole Photography sent us some great Vegas Wedding Ideas along with some beautiful photos. This throwback to the 1950′s was held at the Red Rock Casino in Vegas. Love the Vegas.

Vegas Showgirls greeted the guests at the entrance of the reception during cocktail hour
Frank Sinatra impersonator
Mini root beer floats were served with the wedding cake
Center pieces: each table had a different framed image that paid tribute to the casinos of Vegas past.
Wedding attire: the guys wore classic white jackets and slim black bow ties inspired from Mad Men’s Don Draper. Bridesmaid dresses

vintage wedding ring

From The Bride on her wedding:

Our wedding day is inspired by the glitz and glamour of Las Vegas in the late 1950s and early 1960s, a time when Mr. and Mrs. America came to Hollywood’s playground and rubbed elbows at the roulette table next to Marilyn Monroe, Ann Margret, and a young Senator named Kennedy. Showrooms up and down the strip booked headliners like Frank and the boys, Liberace, Don Rickles, and Wayne Newton. It was a time when a man could get a shrimp cocktail or a juicy prime rib for a buck or two.

We love this special and more innocent era when space age optimists looked towards the sky to see the future, Lincoln Continentals cruised the Strip at 7 MPG, men were men, and it was ok for a fella to go crazy in the head over some broad. Bill would never dare call Amber a “broad,” but he loves her with the same spirit.

Texas Wedding By Clint Shuttlesworth

texas wedding

The ever so fabulous Texas photographer, Clint Shuttlesworth sent us the lovely wedding of Cassidy and Cliff. There was a small issue… the rain. Apparently the weather tends to change almost instantly in Texas. Despite natures drizzle the wedding turned out to be quite spectacular, don’t you think?

I am quite enjoying the small succulent terracotta table favors along with the hand written escort cards hung by clothes pin on twine. Those little added touches make all the difference.

Fabulous Tid Bits From Lucie’s Weddings & Events

vintage getaway car

Lucie’s Events sent us over some great Tuesday morning inspiration. Collaborating with the ever so talented kkbloom.com, they came up with some snazzy wedding details. Like the Cigar Bar and the wedding sparkler holders. Pretty cute stuff.

swallow wedding invitation

KK Bloom on Mary Amanda’s wedding collection.

Mary Amanda’s collection was inspired by her love of nature. Birds and trees, a must have!

We incorporated custom wax seals, postage stamps, and a custom printed pen to write on the RSVP card to round out some of the elements for such a unique piece. To show off the art work, we used clear envelopes to maximize the impact for the delight of her guests.

A beautiful event held at The Barr Mansion. Mary and Ross first met by way of mutual friends that had been dating at the time. Mary had flown in from New York to go on Lake Travis with her friend Kristin, but had nothing to do afterwards and wanted to see Austin. Ross and his good friend Andy picked the girls up from Carlos n Charlies, the place where romance blossoms. Mary soon packed up her bags and moved from NYC. The rest you could say is now wedded bliss!

cigar bar sign

What KK Bloom says about the cigar bar.

This was a fun and exciting way to entertain their guests. With Honduran cigars, Romeo Y Julieta, Casa Blanca, Sancho Panza and many samplers, there was a myriad to choose from.

We carried some fonts and some of the graphic elements from her invitation to bring a cohesive theme to all the added elements. Mary Amanda and Ross’s invites are below. KK Bloom did an amazing job.

Apple Green Wedding Ideas Part II

Thanks for sticking around to see the rest of Ryan and Danielle’s wedding. There are some ideas that you will for sure want to snag.

This wedding was made possible by two of our favorite preferred vendors,  Matthew Morgan and the deliciously sweet, Melody of Sweet & Saucy Shop . Melody always whips together the most insane candy tables. They always look to good to eat.

The exceptionally talented Jesi Haack Weddings was the genius behind the event design. Apple Green Linens and black chiavari chairs set the stage for this super happy event.

Ummm … the chalk board table numbers are so cute!

The event took place at the Red Horse Barn, we hear it is a great Orange County venue. BYO for catering and beverages, which can be actually quite nice if you prefer a certain food or drink.

Check out the cake table! The backdrop to the incredible rustic cake display is white feather boas. How cool is that?

Seriously cute Yo Yos were placed on a table of Green Apples with flash cards. Jesi Haack Weddings, truly did an amazing job of putting together an  inspiring event.

Green Wedding Ideas

Are you in love with the Kids’ Tables? Ryan and Danielle’s engagement photos where turned into coloring pages for endless amounts of fun. The juice boxes are such a brilliant idea. Keeping the kids happy and occupied is seriously priceless. I adore that so much effort was put into making the little ones! What a lovely treat.

La Dolce Vita Studio a destination wedding photographer

Melanie & Bradford from La Dolce Vita Studio sent us this elegant wedding. Ashley and Nick had been dating since they were just kids and have essentially grown up together. Stories of their love blossoming in high school were abundant as all their wedding guests had known this day would be coming for a long time. Bells rang in celebration outside the church as Ashley and Nick were swept away in a vintage Rolls Royce for the reception. Their reception was held at the beautiful ballroom at the Orlando Marriott Hotel. Thanks La Dolce Vita for sharing.

Krissy Davis and the Marvimon

Krissy Davis sent us this great wedding held at the Marvimon. The Bride, Sara’s dress was by the talented Nicole Miller. How awesome does Sara look in that Dress? The makeup was done by Blushing Bridal Makeup.
Sara’s hair was done by Tiffany from the C salon. Baby Blues BBQ catered the event. Yummy!

Krissy also sent us the lovely tale how the bride and groom meet, written by Sara the bride. Click on to read more. It is always fun to read how couples feel and love and tied the knot.

Paul and Sara are the nicest, happy, humble, loving people. They wanted a no fuss wedding to share with their closest friends and family. They met while working on the show Homeland Security, USA. I’m
so happy they asked me to photograph their wedding. It was beautiful and so are they. Believe it or not, Sara claims she doesn’t like having her picture taken! I’m not a great writer so I’ll just let you read a little of what Sara had to say about their story:

Paul and I have worked on about 5-6 shows together over the last 6 years, but never worked directly together (he was an editor and now produces, I’m on the writing/story producing side). We have a lot of
the same credits on our resume, but never actually knew each other. We figured out that at one point about 6 years ago, his office was directly across from mine, but we never talked. In Feb of 2008 I was hired to Story Produce a show he was supervising, Homeland Security USA, and although I remembered him from past shows, he didn’t remember me. We became fast friends working on the show, and our mutual long-time off-and-on boss and close friend (Academy Award winning producer Arnold Shapiro, who was the proudest person at the wedding) kept telling me he thought we’d make a great couple, but I ignored him. At some point Paul and I discovered we lived only a block apart from each other in Beachwood Canyon, so decided to meet up for breakfast one Sunday, just as pals. Breakfast lasted for four hours, which led to a movie, which then led to three hours of talking and laughing in the car, which led to quickly moving in together. We got engaged in Paris 4 months after we started dating and were married one year almost to the day after we “met” each other for real.”

“I guess what was most important to us on that day was that we stayed true to ourselves, even if that meant forgoing tradition. I didn’t want a wedding at first, but once Paul convinced me that we could make the day as unique as we wanted it to be, I started to love the idea. I have never, ever wanted a poofy dress and a bunch of attention. I just wanted to marry Paul. But he reminded me that we could make the day whatever we want. We got a ukelele player and his wife to sing the song that Steve Martin and Burnadette Peters sing in The Jerk, because I love that movie and I knew if I heard that song as I walked down the aisle, I would giggle to myself, instead of feeling nervous or stiff. (And that trumpet player was a complete surprise to me! It was my single favorite moment maybe ever… If I could do my vows over again, I would say that I was marrying Paul not only because he allowed me to walk down the aisle to a song from The Jerk, but he goes and secretly hires a trumpet player to do my favorite part… THAT is the man for me.) And it was important to us that things not be too rehearsed or stiff. Neither of us wanted to feel like we were playing the part of Bride and Groom, we just wanted to be ourselves as we got married, surrounded by our favorite people. We chose things that would make people loosen up and enjoy themselves (banjo, BBQ, wedding movies playing on the screen, casual surroundings). It was so, so important to me that on that day I could wake up and think about how lucky I was to be marrying Paul, and NOT have my thoughts be about my hair or the decorations or dumb stuff like that. And we succeeded in doing that.

He and I are a goofy pair and a perfect fit. I found someone who wants to have adventures with me, and we crack each other up along the way. It’s awesome.”

Black White & Red Wedding

A sexy palette of blood red, graphite and black. The celebrity wedding of Billy Martin and Linzi Williamson is a perfect example of this striking combination. The wedding was coordinated by R. Jack Balthazar. Using inspiration inspired by all that is dark and whimsical, a fusion of Victorian vamp, fanciful beauty, and Old-World luxe tweaked with flavours of the peculiarelements included vintage goblets, shredded black lace, collected birdcages, candelabras and chandeliers. The newlyweds posed with guests Nicole Ritchie and Joel Madden.

Lisa Berry an Indiana Wedding Photographer

From her studies in fine art photography at Rhode Island School of Design, Lisa Berry takes on a wedding with an artistic approach. She is an explorer hunting for meaningful details and interactions. Her pictures are natural, beautiful, and real. To visit her blog and see more of her recent weddings. Click Here.

Lisa sent in this super pretty wedding of Jenny & Matt. They married in Providence where they met in art school. Jenny, a talented designer, and Matt made all of their own print materials, which really made the day. Notice the super cute programs above. I am loving the ribbon placement.

Their wedding was the first ever in the new RISD library and it turned out to be a fantastic place for a ceremony with the antique ball clock, books and columns. Guests walked down the street in a rush of wind and bagpipes to the reception at the Federal Reserve. The couple made their getaway in Jenny’s classic mustang. Loving every second of this sentimental meaningful ceremony.

Michelle Hayes Simple New York Wedding

Meet Michelle Hayes!

My name is Michelle Hayes and I’m a wedding/portrait photographer who would love to share my recent wedding of Bernadette and Michael. What makes this wedding unique and worth showcasing is how Bernadette managed to have her NY wedding at a fairly low cost. During these economic times it would be great to show how one does not need to get caught up in spending a fortune and still a fantastic wedding.

The reception was held at the Metropolitan Building in Long Island City which offers a huge amount of space at a fraction of the cost of most NY venues. This place is a architectural gem inside and a cool place to shoot from a photography stand point.

Bernadette found her Calvin Klein dress on sale at a discount retailer, even though it was still listed at full retail price online at a major department store, and wore a unique head piece from Fascinators in New York instead of a traditional veil. Her look was very chic and you would never know her whole ensemble cost less than $300.You can see more of Michelle’s fantastic work here.
