The inspiration behind our wedding style was deeply rooted in the tropical beauty of Playa del Carmen. We sought to capture the essence of nature, embracing the organic elements found in the rich wood tones and textures, the crystal-clear ocean waters, and the laid-back boho vibes of the beach. Our color palette of olive green, beiges, white, and dusty blue, would aim to create a tranquil beachside atmosphere. For our overall design concept, we wanted a blend of modern, organic, boho, and timeless elements–these are the adjectives that would best describe the inspiration and vision. Given that we were in Mexico, it was essential for us to infuse the local culture into our celebration. We wanted to curate and achieve a Mexican-inspired experience for our guests. We wanted Mexican cuisine for our dinner menu, a churro cart for dessert, branded coconuts, a lively mariachi band for cocktail hour, and maracas to keep the party spirit alive throughout the night. To end the celebration, we wanted to surprise our guests with an authentic handmade tortilla taco station before departing back to Hotel Xcaret.

choosing a central location

Choosing Playa del Carmen as our overall wedding weekend location was strategic; it offered the ideal blend of convenience and exploration for our guests, as it's centrally located between Cancun and Tulum. This allowed our loved ones the opportunity to venture out and explore two other known cities when they weren't participating in wedding-related activities. We both love to travel and had known we always wanted a destination wedding in a tropical location. It also reminded us of the beaches of the Dominican Republic, which hold significance in our cultural background, as both of our families are from there. After looking on Instagram, we chose Blue Venado Private Paradise as our wedding venue because it embodied the essence of a secluded oasis, aligning perfectly with our vision for an intimate, beachy, organic, yet luxurious celebration that embraced the natural beauty of the Mexican beach, complete with palm trees, sand, and the tranquil ambiance of the ocean. Blue Venado Private Paradise offered us the utmost privacy and flexibility to bring our dream wedding to life. Throughout the planning journey, they exhibited exceptional responsiveness and unwavering support, working closely with our wedding planners, Leila Wedding Planners, to meticulously execute every detail of our special day. Additionally, Hotel Xcaret México played a pivotal role in our decision, serving as a lodging option for our guests. This seamless integration between our stay and the wedding venue allowed our loved ones to fully immerse themselves in the entire wedding experience and Mexican culture.

Aside from our wedding being entertaining, we also wanted to ensure that it had some romantic touches. To accomplish this vision we wanted a violinist for the wedding ceremony, white delicate roses, and dimmed lighting along with lit candles throughout the evening. The highlight from our photo gallery, taken by Luxart Wedding Studio, would undoubtedly be the stunning images capturing the breathtaking backdrop of Playa del Carmen! The combination of the turquoise waters, soft sands, and the calming colors of our wedding decor created a truly picturesque setting for our special day. These photos beautifully capture the natural beauty, love, and joyous atmosphere of our wedding celebration.

Emily’s wedding dress featured several intricate details such as delicate floral embellishments that seemed to flutter, to cascading layers of voluminous tulle. The sweetheart neckline bodice included layers of floral lace, with sheer elements showing off the intricate details. A subtle yet alluring touch was the exposed boning peeking through the chantilly lace, creating a demure and high-fashion aesthetic. She paired her dress with Christian Louboutin Sandale du Désert 100 Embellished Satin Crêpe Sandals. John's suit was meticulously tailored to his preferences and unique vision. He selected an off-white linen fabric for both the suit jacket and trousers. His vest, crafted from the same fabric and sharing the same color, featured subtle tropical print accents that harmonized seamlessly with the destination and venue aesthetics. He paired his suit with beautiful brown Christian Louboutin Mortimer Buckle Shoes.

Our carefully chosen color palette of olive green, beiges, white, and dusty blue was intended to evoke a sense of tranquility by the beach, setting the stage for a memorable evening with loved ones. We added timeless touches to our decor, including elegant glassware, well-appointed table settings, candles, and flower arrangements, all set against crisp white table linens and enhanced by romantic lighting hung atop the dining tables. Our floral arrangements by Vanessa Jaimes Floral Design combined dried florals to add a boho touch with white roses and tropical greenery that perfectly complemented the beachside setting. Above the dance floor, we had a handcrafted macrame installation that added a unique and personal touch to the ambiance. Beautiful!

Our menu and drinks, by YD Events, consisted of various delectable hors d’ oeuvres with a three-course menu that included two main entree options for our guests to choose from; salmon in herb and spice crust served with mashed potatoes and caramelized vegetables in lemon and basil sauce or marinated chicken with rosemary filled with spinach and oaxaca cheese served with mashed potatoes and caramelized vegetables in lemon and basil sauce. Both entrees were so delicious that we truly loved both and shared them! Our cake, baked beautifully by La Migaja, was coconut flavored with dulce de leche and strawberry filling covered with white fondant, and decorated with white orchids and coconuts. We accompanied the cake with yummy churros from Los Pockets Churros. At the end of the night, we surprised everyone with ladies in traditional dress cooking authentic handmade tortillas to make al pastor tacos. To this day everyone speaks of these delicious tacos!

We had two signature drinks, The Beb-arita (mango margarita) and The Kai Daiquiri (frozen strawberry with Vodka, along with a full open bar. At one point we were told that our guests were enjoying the Tequila so much that we ran out early in the evening. To ensure the celebration continued, we swiftly restocked our Tequila supply, which became a playful joke amongst the bartenders, who teased that we were enjoying Tequila even more than the locals! Lastly, another standout memory that always brings a smile to our faces was the spontaneous dance-off with our friends and family, fueled by the joy of the moment and perhaps a bit of Tequila!

words of wisdom from the happy couple

The advice we would give to another couple who is about to have their celebration is to take the time to plan and organize everything in advance. It's important to make a list of priorities and stay organized to ensure that everything goes smoothly. Also, remember that this day is about you and your partner, so be sure to savor every moment and don't stress too much about the small details. Finally, surrounding yourselves with friends and family who support you and help you enjoy your day to the fullest is crucial. Your wedding needs to be an authentic reflection of your love, vibe, and happiness! Leila Wedding Planners were simply the best! Leila and Victor were a tremendous blessing throughout our wedding planning journey. Their support was invaluable, and without them, our vision wouldn't have come together as seamlessly as it did. I wholeheartedly recommend them to anyone planning a wedding in Playa del Carmen, Cancún, or Tulum.
