How a Bride Learned to Let Go and Roll With It On Her Wedding Day

When someone thinks of Nashville, they usually always go to a boot-scootin’ place, punctuated by music, hot chicken, and the best Bourbon boozing around. Best time ever, right? Well, this wedding at Mint Springs Farm gave us an entirely new view of Music City (still best time ever), and we can’t stop obsessing over Allie and Rett’s I Dos.

This couple is absolutely adorable, and their wedding brought together the perfect blend of simple, clean, and classic design, with soft, feminine touches and a palpably-playful overall ambiance. Greg and Jess Photography captured it all, and you would never know that rain played ANY part in their nuptials - because the photos are absolutely stunning, the setting is truly unreal, and the steady smiles on everyone’s faces gave away zero hints of anything but clear skies.

Not only is that a testament to the terrific, whatever happens, happens-attitude of the couple, it’s a trademark of a magical venue. As we’ll discuss later on, even though Allie is an actual wedding planner, she completely surrendered herself to the expertise and faultless finesse of the all-star team at Mint Springs Farm. It’s extremely telling when a bride, who usually helps makes dreams come true for other brides, can relinquish any reservations and blindly trust in her venue to do the most with her best day ever. But to be honest, blind trust wasn’t even necessary in this case; all you need to do is hop over to their Instagram grid to get a glimpse of all their genius.

From the bride on her favorite memory of the day

It’s definitely a toss up between the first "NO" look and walking down the aisle! It was all his (my groom’s) idea to be traditional and not see each other before the wedding - being a wedding planner, I pushed for the first look simply for the ease of the timeline. However, I granted his wish and let him have his way on this (since he wasn’t going to care about much else) and we did not see each other before the wedding. We did; however, have a moment before the ceremony where we were back-to-back, we prayed together and got to exchange gifts. This for sure ended up being one of my most favorite and cherished moments with him. I didn’t have to see him, just knowing he was there and being able to feel him was all I needed. It’s funny though, my body seriously lost all sense of gravity in that moment, because I kept feeling like I was going to fall over and that he was leaning too much in to me....but he assured me he wasn’t I was essentially just weak in the knees - literally!

Walking down the aisle was NOT a blur for me at all, I remember every moment of this and it was as if time stood still! We locked eyes the minute the doors opened and did not move them off of each other! I felt every emotion come over me as I teared up, smiled, laughed, giggled, and tried to catch my breath all at the same time. Once I got up there we both started whispering to each other, being silly, and cracking jokes, which is where the blur sets in, because we didn’t pay the officiant too much attention after that. Haha we were a little distracted with each other :)

Why booking Mint Springs Farm was a no-brainer

Mint Springs Farm is literally the greatest venue, ever! I knew several people that had gotten married there and had heard nothing but good, and positive things! They absolutely outdid themselves - across the board! From the start, the planning process was a breeze, they always made me feel at ease, and as if I really didn’t have much to do on my end. It was true, too, because they took care of everything! The service they provide is absolutely priceless....PRICELESS!!! We would have paid thousands more dollars if we had to upfront, if we would have known then what we do now as for just how much they do for you. I had heard so many stories from just-married people about how the last month is so crazy, and then how the wedding day itself was just such chaos that they don’t remember much of it, at all. This was not the case for me or my family whatsoever! We had total peace of mind that everything was being taken care of, and were literally able to sit back, relax, and enjoy each other and the time we could spend together being excited in that last month, and then actually ENJOY and soak up every single minute on the wedding day.

Even my mom said that she was so afraid she would be running around that day, looking like a mess (based on what she had heard), but she was so overjoyed with how opposite that was for her. So many people ask us if we were exhausted by the end of it and so happy that it was all over, but we all want to do it all over again!! THEN, don’t even get me started on the detail and floral and decor that Mint Springs provides. It is outstanding, they are truly the most talented people! They took my inspiration, ideas, and dreams and turned them into a reality, but honestly even better than I could have ever imagined. Apart from colors and tones, I pretty much let them do what they wanted, since I knew I could trust them, and they exceeded any and all expectations! The entire process, from start to finish, was pleasant, enjoyable, and a dream come true!

The unexpected

No, wait, before you worry, know that this was a GOOD unexpected. My Dad shocked everyone with what he said when he gave me away! He told the officiant he had something he wanted to say before being asked the traditional, "who gives this woman to this man" questions - something no one except my mother knew about. You see, my dad and I look VERY much alike, and it is always a joke. So, he proceeds to address Rett and ask him if “he is ready to spend the rest of his life with the female version of himself?" As I’m sure you can imagine, everyone started laughing, and Rett’s expression was priceless!! He was 100% speechless, just stood there and stared back at my dad, with a grin on his face, and back at the officiant and back at my dad, like he just had no idea what to do or say. Which is exactly what he ended up saying, "I don’t know what to say." Hahahaha of course he finally answered yes, and we proceeded, but it was hilarious and such a great way to start the ceremony with light comic relief - because that’s exactly how we are!

Is this the real life, is it just fantasy? Nope, it’s true, we’re pure Disney

We are big Disney people, me specifically, so we incorporated multiple Disney songs and references into the reception (i.e. we were introduced to the reception with "Circle of Life" and then we cut the cake to "Love Is An Open Door," and another one of our favorites is "Kiss the Girl," so we belted that one out during the reception at some point!

His family has a tradition of bringing all the family - immediate and extended - onto the dance floor at some point to dance to "Bohemian Rhapsody," so that was a pretty big deal and counted as my initiation into the family!

A bride’s big advice

Find a way to ignore all the madness and enjoy it! Don’t feel like you have to live up to this standard of a "Bride," who has to act a certain way, or carry herself a certain way. Now, of course, have some class, but let yourself have fun, be yourself, be silly and goofy, and enjoy every moment with your groom :) We felt like absolute celebrities that whole weekend, from my bridal brunch, to the rehearsal dinner, and then of course the whole wedding day itself!! We were shown sooooo much love, and it is so important to just SOAK. IT. ALL. IN

… When it rains, it pours

Another tidbit of advice: just roll with it! It rained on my wedding day, and you know what, it was still perfect!!! (Granted, when we got engaged it was in the pouring rain, so we kind of expected it from the get-go, and it was honestly special and sentimental to us!) But, still, every bride fears that it will rain on her wedding day, and it is absolutely not worth the stress! First of all, you can’t control it. Now, I’d be lying if I didn’t admit to checking the forecast every single day leading up to it and then by-the-hour once it got even closer to time......BUT, when the day came, it made no difference if it was raining or not. Somethings had to be altered, changed, and a plan B was put in place, but it was all seamless still. When it came time for ceremony, it was absolutely flooding, I mean, like can’t see your hand in front of your face kind of rain, but we simply delayed the ceremony for a couple minutes and then proceeded! And honestly, what better time for the rain to come on down than during the ceremony when everyone is seated and under shelter anyways?! Moral of the story, just go with it! Something will go wrong, its inevitable, but don’t let that ruin anything, even your mood, and most definitely don’t let it be the thing you remember when you look back on your day! Your day will be unique and special, because it is YOUR day! Own that! Embrace it! And let yourself live it up!!

Oh!! And small side note: In your bridal suite that day, be sure someone gets pictures on a phone with your bridesmaids, your mom, anyone else important who will be with you. These will be soooo great to have in the weeks while you are waiting to get your professional photos back from your photographer, and it’s just a different kind of picture that you will cherish!!
