The Difference Between Planning a Wedding vs. a Wedding Weekend

Golden Hour Events wedding weekend planner in wyoming

So you want to host a mountain wedding weekend. But did you know that there are planners who actually specialize in that? We just figured any wedding planner could also plan a wedding weekend, but it’s not necessarily that simple. We talked to Golden Hour Events, one of the best in the biz, about what goes into planning a wedding weekend vs. a one-day affair. Their founder, Kianna Erickson, brings over eight years of industry experience across bridal fashion, florals, and full-scale event production. She’s known for refined tablescapes, intentional guest experiences, and thoughtfully layered design details. Here’s what she had to say…

The Where Of It All

When you’re planning a wedding weekend, the biggest question is the where. You want a reliable, tried-and-true venue where you and your guests can stay on-site (or close to it). Golden Hour Events pride themselves on having a strong network of top-tier vendors across the Mountain West, which means they also have connections to private estates and luxury resorts with a focus on Montana and Wyoming so you and your guests can rest easy knowing your accommodations will be taken care of and on-point.

What To Expect

Planning a wedding weekend means planning several different events, each with its own vision but one should flow seamlessly into the next—keeping the same vibe all weekend. This is no easy feat. With Golden Hour Events’ design-driven approach, they blend sophisticated aesthetics with seamless logistical execution. You’ll start with your welcome party as guests start to arrive at the destination. Then you’ll have the rehearsal and rehearsal dinner. Since your guests will be likely be staying on-site, you’ll want to make sure that they have something to wake up to on the big day, whether it’s a full breakfast or just a nice welcome basket full of fresh local goodies. Then, it’s time for the Main Event. But it doesn’t stop there! You’ll probably want some kind of afterparty like a late-night bonfire or drinks at a local dive. Then, of course, there’s the morning-after farewell brunch… A wedding weekend planner thinks of it all!

How Do They Do It?

Danielle Mullens

A wedding weekend is twice as many days, which means it’s twice the work for your planner. So how do they do it? Because each of their couples received a highly personalized, concierge-level planning experience, they only accept a limited number of weddings each season. And yes, there’s a waiting list! They still have a few weekends open for 2026 and 2027 and are looking for clients that are hosting destination-level celebrations, who value elevated design, intentional storytelling, and expert production oversight. Sound like you? Click here to inquire and begin designing a celebration that is both seamless and unforgettable.

“We used Kianna and her team for our wedding. Not only did she plan an amazing event with beautiful attention to detail, but she also made us feel so listened to and supported throughout the whole process. GHE has many options to rent from them, and they also have wonderful relationships with contacts throughout the valley. Kianna is truly one of a kind, and it shows in every relationship she has—she is absolutely GOLDEN! So grateful to have gotten to work with her and to have gained such a wonderful friend. 10/10 recommend! ”-Kendall & Zach L.
