An Outer Banks waterfront wedding that was out of this world

Outer Banks waterfront wedding

Searching for some gorgeous outdoor wedding inspiration? Look no further than this breathtaking Sound side wedding located in Corolla, NC! Meg and Tom always had a special connection to the Outer Banks, so it was no surprise that they chose to tie the knot on the charming coastal island. With organic natural beauty as far as the eye can see, this venue required minimal decor, as the landscape speaks for itself.

If the venue has "good bones," the decor practically styles itself!

Bride Meg always envisioned herself getting married at Whalehead. As a little girl visiting Corolla in the summertime, she continually found herself enamored with the land’s natural beauty. Choosing a wedding venue with ‘good bones,’ made it so much easier for her wedding vision to come to life. When planning, there is so much pressure to mull over every tiny detail, so it was comforting for the couple to know that they were already starting with such a beautiful space.

A friend as officiant adds an extra layer of customization and connection

Having an intimate connection during the ceremony with the person who married them was important to the bride and groom, so they decided to call on one of the bride's childhood friends to be their officiant. They raved that this was seriously one of the best decisions they made! Her words felt so personal, which just added to the raw emotions of the ceremony.

Greeting guests can be time consuming, even at a small wedding! Make sure to take a moment.

Photographer Kasey pulled Tom and Meg away for an intimate moment to capture a few photos during sunset. Many of their guests had traveled countless hours to attend the wedding, so they wanted to ensure that they made an effort to greet everyone and thank them for coming. Although their wedding guest list was only 90 people, it was still very time consuming! Having the chance to take a moment alone with each other and let the emotions of the day sink in was so special for both the bride and the groom.

After-the-fact advice from the bride and groom

"When you begin to meet with vendors, take notes at every meeting. Follow up with a recap email highlighting the decisions you made during the planning session, as well as sending action items for both the bride/couple and vendor. This may seem like overkill, but remember that vendors are working with dozens of couples at the same time. Learn from my cautionary tale: I originally reached out to a florist over a year in advance only to get ghosted a few months later. Moral of the story - insist on getting things in writing and remitting your payment as soon as you can! No matter how organized a vendor is, accidents can happen, and you want to ensure that everything is taken care of!"
