We’ve featured so many winery weddings on Wedding Chicks over the years, and each of them has been phenomenal. In a way, they’ve almost come to create their own wedding vibe category - somewhere between rustic, industrial, modern, and moody. And if you’ve considered a winery wedding before, you might even have a vision in your head for what it could look like. But the wedding we’re spotlighting today gives us a whole new look at the winery setting, and from what we can tell — you can literally have it all with this venue in Washington, DC. District Winery is a fully functioning commercial winery and premier event space with a warm and inviting, yet sophisticated ambiance that provided an amazing backdrop for Carissa and Ash’s I dos. Read on to see all the incredible captures by the mother-daughter team that is Birds of a Feather Photography

The day, at a glance

Carissa and Ash’s fall wedding was a classy, elegant, and deepLy modern affair, which perfectly complemented District Winery’s charismatic celebration space.

Our favorite part? How stunningly picturesque and sublime the surroundings were. Yes, the nuptials happened at a winery, but instead of a dark, cryptic, moody atmosphere, it was anything but! The couple had portraits taken on District Winery’s light-drenched terrace and with floor-to-ceiling windows everywhere inside, the ceremony, cocktail hour, and reception scenes were endlessly aglow from start to finish.

The couple chose to keep the color scheme simple and natural, with lush, hanging greenery and a statement-making garland altar to ground their ceremony facade.

While the couple enjoyed a private moment in the in-house Barrel Room wedding suite (complete with a sparkling wine toast and a delectable charcuterie spread), their guests enjoyed a wine-filled cocktail hour with a lavish antipasti bar and six types of passed hors d’oeuvres that highlighted local catch. Crab beignets, shrimp ceviche, and pepper-seared salmon bites were just the beginning!

A winery wedding is obviously stacked with robust, grape-forward refreshments, but to offer something else to their guests, Carissa and Ash dreamed up a signature cocktail called the Sugar & Spice. We love when a pair gets creative with sips that riff on their relationship. Bourbon, lemon juice, maple and ginger beer — it’s rich, sweet, tart, and spicy and undoubtedly a cocktail that took cues from them two!

The reception was a romantic, candlelit, family-style dinner ripe with ethereal green elements and outfitted and designed by District Winery’s creative styling team. As an all-inclusive venue, the staff provided the tables, chairs, flatware, and much of the festive tablescape decor that comprised crisp white place settings.

The food, the fun, and the frosting… on top of the cake

Entrees included buttermilk fried chicken and leg of lamb with mouthwatering macaroni and cheese and crispy Brussels sprout accompaniments.

And after their friends and fam danced the night away (to the musical stylings of the six-piece Bachelor Boys Band), Carissa and Ash invited their crew out to a beautifully-lit terrace for their cake cutting ceremony. We’ll take ivory buttercream in four tiers and a stunning twilight view of the Anacostia River, any day!
