Art Deco Wedding at Cicada Restaurant: A Magical Celebration

Share

Romantic wedding couple embracing in ornate doorway

I met Brit Friedman at a Bridal Show in Santa Monica. She came with the intention of hiring a wedding coordinator and found me. She said it was perfect as I knew her beautiful venue Cicada, a stunning 1920’s location in downtown. I have celebrated many events there and knew owners and managers well. I was looking forward to doing a wedding there.

Brit put her heart and soul into planning her wedding. She folded 1000 origami cranes to hang from the balconies and also place on the tables. This symbolizes 1000 years good luck. Her colors were orange and grey which fit well with the art deco design of the venue. Her family are big chocolate lovers so plates of Sees Candy would be placed on every table as well as chocolate covered strawberries as favors. The art deco style was everywhere from the gorgeous sign in print especially customized for them, the dress, the florals, the invitation, and the cake.
The ceremony was in the round with the chuppah in the center. It was beautiful. Brit told me exactly what she wanted and I made sure she got that and more. There was complete trust and she just wanted to enjoy the day, which was one of the most magical weddings I have done. The vendors were in complete partnership to have the day be amazing. After the beautiful ceremony, the servers magically transformed the room into a stunning reception. The large bridal party led Brit and Ari down the magnificent staircase. Then I was completely surprised by my bride who began to sing so beautifully. I knew she was singing but I had no idea what the song was as it was a surprise. She rewrote the words to Adele’s “Someone Like you” Everyone was so mesmerized by her, you could hear a pin drop. It was amazing. The videographers created a same day edit that we would all watch after the cake cutting.
The guests danced till midnight. It was a night they continue to talk about.
