Zoé and Scott wanted a sleek formal event, full of style, yet still welcoming to their guests. A black-tie affair in an industrial brewery at the center of downtown Toronto was the perfect fit. Steamwhistle Brewery was the location of their first date and now it's the spot where the couple agreed to forever and celebrated with their favorite people. A black-and-white palette was a classic choice but also on-trend, which was very important to the couple.

The bride, Zoé, and her bridesmaids donned chic black and white pleated loungewear and sipped champagne as they got ready. And the fact that those champagne glasses are made with fluted glass (which is the star of the reception) is a detail that's not lost on us. The groom and his men gathered in his suite for a quick toast in their matching tuxedos.

an outdoor ceremony

The outdoor summer ceremony was in late July, which set the stage for a perfect day. White chairs lined the sun-drenched brick aisle and the altar was framed by black wood doors and an assortment of white and mauve floral arrangements by Bundled Blooms in cement planters.

Zoé’s first gown, by Italian designer Dovita Bridal, had a spectacular, tulle ruffle skirt, low back, and a dramatically long train. She opted for a modern ponytail, so as to not take away from the gown. With it, she wore pearl earrings worn by her stepmother (when she married Zoé’s late father).

For the Reception, Zoé changed into her second gown. It was completely custom, dreamt up by the bride, and sewn by her new mother-in-law. A white satin fitted and backless gown, with a black necktie and oversized bow at the back. The black satin buttons down the back were actually removed from Zoé’s mother’s wedding dress, as a surprise for her mom.

a heartfelt cocktail hour with a merch table

custom drink toppers for wedding

During cocktail hour the guests were treated to delicious hors d'oeuvres, from The Food Dudes catering team, featuring Prime Beef Sliders, Beet Arancici, and their favorite, Brie grilled cheese. The couple had custom-crafted cocktails by Quench Bar–The Chamomile Paloma Margarita, and Negroni served three ways, each topped with a custom glass monogram charm. Zoé and Scott love to host regularly, so their wedding was no exception. During this time, the guests were able to stop by the “Merch Table” where they could scoop up custom monogrammed swag, sweaters, bottle openers, flip-flips for dancing, tote bags, etc. Scott’s favorite detail was the Mini Putt brought in by Ace2Putt as a tribute to their fathers. Zoé and Scott both lost their fathers to Cancer. They felt it was important to honor them while also entertaining the guests–Mini Putt was a huge hit during cocktail hour!

As an Event Designer herself, Zoé spent a lot of time on the reception, wanting to soften the hard industrial feel of the venue. Silky linens and romantic candlelight paired beautifully with an abundance of white roses and orchids. Zoé also had custom bread plates made with their monogram for each place setting as an added touch. This was definitely her favorite detail, and she now has them at home for hosting!
