A Nordic-inspired minimalist wedding in Tulum with paddleboard vows

Cade and Aziza are opposites in so many ways, but they’ve created a life that compliments them so well. Cade is a country boy at heart who grew up on 2,000 acres in the middle of Ohio. Aziza is a complete city girl, having lived with her mom in cities like Oakland, Atlanta, LA, and DC. Aziza is an introvert at heart, while Cade can work a room like it’s his job. Ultimately, what brought them together was their love for people, God, and a strong desire to adventure lovingly through life. Three years after meeting at a house party where Cade overheard Aziza speaking Spanish, they were married at a stunning wedding in Tulum, Mexico.

Their postponement turned into a paddleboard vow exchange before the big day

Aziza started creating her inspiration with Diana Romo Weddings based on the following idea: A private, intimate, and intentional union where guests step into another world where they are cared for and attended to luxuriously. This is a quintessential Diana Romo Weddings style, an organic affair with a touch of glam. The venue was already so stunning, so it was the perfect example of a "less is more" wedding. Despite having to do a pandemic postponement, the couple flew down to Mexico on the original date and did a vow exchange on paddle boards. When the time came for them to celebrate with friends and family, having a destination wedding allowed them to spend multiple days with their guests and truly enjoy them. They bundled their bachelorette & bachelor parties with the wedding celebration, arriving a few days early to celebrate with their best friends!

The bride trusted her gut when she felt like her dress wasn't quite right... and it paid off!

After a few days of dress shopping with her mom and sisters, Aziza had purchased a dress at a sample sale. On the plane home, however, she decided that she hated it! She sold it and scoured the internet for something that was more her taste, and after a few weeks, she found the brand Solace London. It was a fraction of the price, and when it arrived it fit like a glove! Aziza was stunning in this sheath-styled dress with a beautiful, sculptured satin that wrapped around the bodice and made a train in the back.

Friends can't come? It's no problem with custom ceremony recordings of special well-wishes

For the bride and groom, the venue was one of the easiest choices. With intimacy in mind, Arca felt like it was in it’s own little world, even amidst the busiest street in Tulum. It’s a modern venue that feels influenced by the moody and magical spirit of Tulum. Because multiple of the groom's friends couldn't make it, the bride surprised him during their ceremony with recordings from each of them wishing them well. The bride also remixed a few traditions. Because she has three parents and wanted all of them to have a part in the wedding, she had her mother and biological father walk her from the entrance of the venue to the aisle, and then from there, her stepdad took over and he and the bride's mother walked her down the remainder of the aisle.

Nordic influences created a glam, minimalistic style for the entire wedding day design

The fabulous floral designer Grisel Serrano created an organic and minimal yet elegant bouquet, it included Phalaenopsis and Dendrobium orchids, roses, ranunculus, lisianthus, spray roses, anthurium and delphinium. A minimalist inspiration courtesy of Nordic influences drove the tablescape design. The color palette was comprised of shades of white and black accents to complement the aesthetic of Arca and to create an ethereal and airy vibe. The bride knew she wanted to let the jungle speak, so she and Diana Romo Weddings honed in on a neutral, grounded tablescape against the dark stone backdrop of Arca. Tons and tons of candlelight, of course, created the most intimate and moody vibe.

Churro carts, pinatas, and disposable cameras brought a whole lot of creativity to the party!

They couple chose to include Arca’s incredible house cocktails: The Har Mar Superstar (Mezcal, Ginger, Honey, Lemon, Thyme), and The Chechen (Tequila Blanco, Roasted Pineapple, Lime, Angostura bitters). And while they didn't have a traditional wedding cake, they did indulge in a churro cart! The bride was so resourceful and so creative from start to finish. From the welcome bags through the graphics of the signs and stationery, the couple remembered every detail. Because they wanted a tech-free ceremony, they included disposable cameras on each side of the aisle so guests could take photos and pass it to the next guess. The Diana Romo Weddings team went to a stone yard to source travertine table stones for the reception decor. They even included a super fun pinata!
