Summary

Is it grey or gray? According to Websters, it can go either way, but regardless, when it comes to wedding color pallets, gray is the new black! Last season gray was creeping in here and there; however, this year gray has a personality all its own. The neutral color is a great base for numerous color combinations. Gray paired with pink can convey a soft romantic mood, while paired with lemon yellow is a wonderful aesthetic for a more modern sophisticated design. Gray has the ability to balance it's tone and blend flawlessly with either a soft whitewashed hue or a vibrant jewel tone. This modern wedding design brought to us by the very talented Stephanie Williams blends a soft dove gray with a vibrant emerald green.
The bride's dress is a unique design paying tribute to both the idea of a clean silhouette while incorporating a twinge of romance - a simple gray ribbon completes a classic and timeless look. The fondant detail on the cake matches the dress color perfectly, and the bridesmaids' dresses are the same color in chiffon, adding a variety of textures to the overall scheme. The pin-tuck table linens are stunning (find them at La Tavola or Classic Party Rentals) and they set the tone for the elegant place settings. The design incorporates a number of different floral arrangements - tall singular arrangements and shorter arrangements that are comprised of three smaller arrangements. The bride and groom incorporated the secondary color, emerald green, into much of their "collateral." The ice cream bar, table numbers, menu cards, and programs all have a slight dapple of color to highlight the soft elegant design.

Palette & Venue Recommendations

Gray can work well in either a fun funky urban setting or can be used to create a soft romantic feel. I prefer to use this color palette in an indoor setting as the gray can be overwhelmed by the abundance of green in an outdoor venue. Try a slate gray paired with bright lemon yellow at a SF loft - Dogpatch Studios and Terra Gallery come to mind. You may also consider this color combination of gray alongside emerald green to be used at SF City Hall, or the Rotunda in Oakland .
