How To Combine Two Distinct Cultures Into One Unforgettable Wedding

Happy bride and groom wedding portrait near window

At its heart, a wedding is the celebration of two families coming together, but making everyone feel included can be hard, especially if you and your fiancé(e) are from different cultures with very different wedding traditions. If you're struggling with this, take a page out of this couple's book. They made a point to recognize traditions from both of their backgrounds and, by leaning on their vendors and family for help, still managed to make the wedding elegant and cohesive.

THE BACKGROUND STORY

We had the immense pleasure of working with Falan and Moses for their beautiful cultural fusion wedding at the Eglinton Grand. Their backgrounds were brought in with special and meaningful touches throughout the day.

The bride has a background from Newfoundland and the groom hails from Grenada, Africa and just so happens to be a professional Hollywood stuntman. These kind souls are what you would call dream clients. They were so thoughtful to each other, their friends, and all of the wedding pros involved throughout the entire planning process.

THE KISSING OF THE COD

Serendipity show starring Moses and Falan at the theatre

The wedding party came from all over the world to be with them on their special day. There were special surprises throughout the evening (even to us!). Suprise dancing, surprise speeches and even more dancing. Paying homage to Falan’s Newfie roots, Moses was “Screeched In”. “The “screech-in” is an optional ceremony performed on non-Newfoundlanders (known to Newfoundlanders as a “come from away” or “mainlander”) involving a shot of screech, a short recitation, and the kissing of a cod.”
