Liz and Ethan’s love story began long before dating apps and swipe-right culture. The couple first met in high school when Ethan was a senior and Liz was a junior. Their early relationship was sweet and formative, but life eventually led them down separate paths. When they reconnected in 2021, it quickly became clear that this was far more than a nostalgic reunion.
Three years later, Ethan planned a proposal just steps from their apartment on a charming West Village street. Of course, not everything went exactly according to plan. A garbage truck had parked directly in the spot he intended to use for the proposal, but with some quick thinking—and a little help from the crew—the scene was cleared just in time. Their September wedding at Winvian, captured by Melani Lust Photography and James Ross and planned with the help of Rose Hill Events, beautifully reflected the same balance of intention, joy, and authenticity that defined their relationship.

Wedding designed inspired by English gardens
The couple envisioned a wedding that felt elegant yet organic, drawing inspiration from the beauty of English gardens and the natural landscape surrounding them. Soft floral textures by Hana Floral Designs, open green spaces, and abundant seasonal blooms created a romantic atmosphere that felt refined without being overly formal. Every design element worked together to create a celebration that felt effortless, welcoming, and timeless.

A perfectly timed rain shower
Just thirty minutes before the ceremony, an unexpected rain shower threatened the couple’s carefully planned outdoor celebration. Rather than dampening the mood, the weather created one of the day’s most memorable moments. As quickly as the rain arrived, the skies cleared, revealing beautiful light and allowing the ceremony to proceed as planned.

Ceremony design in an open green field
The outdoor wedding ceremony unfolded in a sweeping open field surrounded by lush greenery. A stunning floral ceremony arch served as the focal point, framing the couple as they exchanged vows beneath an expansive sky. The setting felt romantic and intimate while still embracing the grandeur of the surrounding landscape.

Making the ceremony even more meaningful, Ethan’s twin sister, Nicole, officiated the wedding, adding a deeply personal touch to one of the most important moments of the day.

Portraits among the sunflowers
One of the most distinctive visual elements of the wedding day came through the couple’s portraits among towering sunflowers. The vibrant blooms added warmth, color, and a sense of playfulness while reinforcing the garden-inspired aesthetic woven throughout the celebration.

Wedding flowers for a cottage garden romance
Throughout the celebration, the floral design embraced the same natural elegance that inspired the overall wedding aesthetic. Lush blooms, organic textures, and yellow and white garden-inspired arrangements complemented the open-air setting while enhancing the romantic atmosphere. The floral elements felt intentional yet effortless, creating a seamless connection between the ceremony and reception spaces.

Reception design under a clear-top tent
Following the ceremony, guests transitioned into a reception that beautifully blended indoor and outdoor elements. A clear-top tent became one of the defining design features of the evening, allowing guests to remain connected to the surrounding landscape while celebrating beneath a canopy of soft golden light. The transparent structure created an airy, romantic atmosphere that felt particularly magical as daylight faded into evening.

A surprise musical performance
The reception was filled with heartfelt moments, laughter, and nonstop dancing, but one surprise stood above the rest. Late in the evening, Ethan shocked guests by grabbing a bass guitar and joining two of his closest friends on stage. Despite not being known for his musical talents, his unexpected performance quickly became one of the most memorable moments of the celebration.

A celebration worth the wait
From heartfelt vows and family involvement to spontaneous surprises and joyful dancing, every part of Liz and Ethan’s wedding reflected the journey that brought them together. Their celebration felt elegant without being formal, romantic without feeling overly traditional, and deeply personal from beginning to end.
