East Asian Tradition Goes Contemporary at this Styled Shoot

How to make traditions more modern for your wedding

The photographer for this inspo shoot - Bouquet Photography - was originally from Thailand and grew up with East Asian culture, but is now based in Orlando specializing in destination weddings and portraits.  Since moving to Orlando, they noticed a serious lack of Asian culture in the wedding industry.  The goal of this styled shoot was to showcase the beauty of East Asian culture and show that traditional outfits can be upbeat and modern, as well.

Celebrating Tradition on the Big Day

Maxine, an event planner for Lake Nona Lunar New Year 2022, also noticed the lack of weddings with traditional East Asian cultures involved in the community.  Since it was a private editorial styled shoot, vendors came together with their creativities and talent to deliver the intention of this shoot: showcasing the beauty of East Asian cultures in an upbeat, modern style, to celebrate East Asian roots.

Traditional Dresses with a Contemporary Twist

The first Cheongsam (Qipao) is a Mabel Bespoke Dress, and the jumpsuit is a Chloe Bespoke Jumpsuit, both from East Meets Dress.  These outfits stood out against the backdrop of the venue, Lake Nona Wave Hotel, where you can discover refined meeting spaces filled with daylight and contemporary rooms outfitted with the best in modern equipment.

Meaningful Floral Design

The bouquet for this shoot was delicately made by Wedding Day Flower Rental, filled with roses, Floriclone Kimono orchids, peonies, poppies, red berries, and dyed pampa grass. This blend of flowers created different shades of red with texture for modern brides.  Danison from Bowtie and Brush was in charge of customized invitation suites, calligraphy, and flat lays. He took what was presented on a mood board and went completely above and beyond.

A Cultural Dining Experience

For the tablescapes, they kept it simple with napkins folded as lotus flowers, which symbolize the "heart and mind's ultimate purity" in East Asian cultures.  It was important to also include the concept of traditional family style eating where everyone shares all the dishes with one person ordering for the whole table.  Each and every detail focused on showcasing tradition, but making it just a bit edgy!
