Classy Black and White Northern California Winter Wedding

This Wedding At A California Mansion Only Cost 13K!

Having an elegant wedding doesn't have to break the bank, just ask this couple who planned their dream wedding for only $13K. The key is to start with a venue with good bones, like the Sequoia Mansion, that doesn't need any additional decoration. Invest in your ensembles but keep them classic and minimalist–a style that looks amazing and is usually budget-friendly. Go for an affordable flower, like Baby's Breath for the majority of your arrangements. Last, but not least, narrow down your guest list to your nearest and dearest; it will help you save and give you more one-on-one time with your loved ones.

To make sure they were able to enjoy their wedding and the planning process to the fullest, this couple hired Wedgewood Weddings. Ashley Douglas created these beautiful bouquets and the Baby's Breath arbor all within the couple's budget. Megan and Jonah also invested in a great photographer, Sharon Ko Photo, who took these lovely photos that they will cherish for the rest of their lives. Keep reading to hear more from the bride, Megan Zahnd, about how they were able to stay within budget without compromising on their vision. Check out the full gallery to see the entire wedding.

WORK WITH THE RIGHT TEAM

On December 19, 2021, Megan and Jonah Zahnd got married at the Sequoia Mansion in Placerville, CA. The couple planned the wedding over eight months, with great help from Wedgewood Weddings and the staff at the Sequoia Mansion, especially Cristina! They also managed a large portion of the planning themselves, enlisting the help of family and friends to make it possible (and within the budget).

ADD IN SOME HEIRLOOMS

To start the day, the bride and her party enjoyed mimosas (and McDonald’s) in the bridal suite of the historic mansion, while the groom and his men sipped on whiskey. Megan wore the 'Jacquie' dress by Goddess By Nature and white go-go boots. Her diamond earrings were her “something borrowed” and “something old,” as they’re an heirloom from her Great Grandma June. Megan’s “something blue” was her pinky fingernail, tipped in blue by her maid of honor, Jess. Her hair and makeup were done by bridesmaid and cousin, Marissa O’Day. Jonah wore a bespoke suit by Indochino and sleek black shoes by Salvatore Ferragamo.

MAKE IT PERSONAL

The bride and groom met for a first look before the ceremony, in the venue's beautiful indoor patio. The lighting was just right as the couple read their personal vows to one another. They made the most of the fleeting light by taking photos with the wedding party after the first look and enjoyed each other’s company before the ceremony. The ceremony took place on the gorgeous front lawn, under an archway of Baby’s Breath, masterfully transformed that morning by the florist, Ashley Douglas. As the ceremony went forward, the wedding party, ring bearer, and flower girl proceeded the bride and her father. The officiant, Craig Hardinger, provided a touching, funny, and meaningful ceremony. The couple exchanged custom rings, designed by AK Jewelers. Megan and Jonah took communion together before being announced as husband and wife. Cue the smooch!

SIP AND MINGLE

After a whirlwind family photoshoot on the outdoor patio, in the remaining winter light, the couple warmed up inside with their guests during the cocktail hour. The venue provided an inclusive cash bar and delicious charcuterie-style snacks for everyone. Everyone had the opportunity to mingle while signing the guestbook, made by Papier, and snapping a photo on one of the disposable cameras. There were couches, a fireplace, and a gorgeous vintage bar that created a warm, cocktail party atmosphere.

DANCE YOUR HEART OUT

From there, the reception began! Each member of the wedding party, including the couple, was introduced into the reception area to set the tone for the party. Guests found their seats using the DIY picture frame seating chart. Dinner included an inclusive buffet with several different options for people to choose from. The food exceeded expectations. At each table setting was a pair of white, heart-shaped sunglasses and a bag of coffee beans that said “Megan + Jonah, The Perfect Blend.” The sunglasses were a huge hit during dinner and dancing. After heartfelt speeches, special dances, and cake cutting, the dance party began. DJ Steve Boutte did an awesome job keeping the energy up. Meanwhile, the photographer, Sharon Ko, captured the spirit of the event and the couple's love perfectly. The evening ended with a ribbon tunnel exit as the couple ran off into the night!
