Alluring Berry-toned Destination Wedding in Hawaii

Kisses where the palm trees sway

If you need a friendly reminder as to why Hawaii is such a dreamy wedding location, then this gorgeous wedding at the Olowalu Plantation House in Maui is it. Josh and Tiare's beachfront wedding under the towering palms was beautifully styled with whimsical berry-toned floral arrangements, copper and gold details and oyster shell place cards for a hint of nautical.

Maui Maka Photography did an amazing job capturing this gorgeous day, so keep scrolling to see all the pretty details and don’t miss the full gallery below.

How they met

From the bride: Josh and I met during my first year of residency. He was a medical student rotating through his OBGYN clerkship. I taught him how to deliver babies, we delivered a few together. One night, during an evening shift, we wandered down to the cafeteria for a midnight snack. We had an engaging conversation about books we'd read, books we'd like to read if we had the time. It was a very nerdy conversation.

Their first date

Eventually, towards the end of the rotation, one of my colleagues (who found this situation very entertaining) decided to tell me that one of the students had a crush on me. Never in a million years would I date a student! Ultimately I decided that I'd have nothing to lose. After the grades were posted (of course, we couldn't have our first date influence his grade on the clerkship), we went on our first date.

How she found out

While spending Thanksgiving in Maui, he asked me to go on a date with him the Friday after Thanksgiving. He asked me about 5 weeks in advance, so I knew something was up. He also told me that we'd take pictures for a Christmas card (which was weird..we've never sent Christmas cards, never talked about sending Christmas cards, never even thought about Christmas cards).

So one night, right as he was falling asleep, I decided to investigate. "Hey," I whispered, nudging him gently, "what should I wear?...for the card?" Half asleep he responded, "Huh? What card?" I coaxed him back to sleep, "nevermind, sweets." I had all that I needed, and sure enough, he asked me to marry him on that date. And the rest is history."

Stylish reception decor

From Erica of Couture Events MauiIn planning and designing Tiare and Josh's destination wedding we kept the words natural, whimsical, elegant and alluring in mind. Some fun details: Miss B Calligraphy artistically scripted guests names on oyster shells for a touch of nautical charm. For the reception tables, we draped Adorn's hand-dyed runners along wooden farm tables. Floral designer Mandy Grace created organic and whimsical arrangements in shades of dusty mauve, blush and deep wine hues.
