Our wedding planning story

When Lou and I met, we were both in very weird, transitional times in our lives. We didn’t know how we would work, but knew we really wanted to keep being a part of each others’ lives. Lou proposed on a holiday trip to Moorea, in French Polynesia. It’s a day neither of us will never forget in the most beautiful of places. Wedding planning was a struggle during Covid, especially when planning in another destination. We had visited Tulum 3 years prior and loved it - it was a magical place and one of our favorite vacations. As soon as we left we knew if we ever got married, we wanted it to be there. Ultimately, we got married in at Cenote Taak Bi Ha with our reception at Itzik Tulum.

Our wedding day was one of the best of our lives. It’s hard to explain the feeling of having all of your closest family and friends in once beautiful place watching you marry the love of your life. We had our friend who introduced us do the ceremony, and it added a special, intimate touch. We loved Tulum’s whole vibe and never wanted the weekend to end. We kept details simple because we wanted everyone to experience the true Tulum experience. We kept it boho but jungle-inspired with dream catchers, candles, and native flowers. Our guests loved the whole Tulum experience, and some even booked trips to come back!

We wanted our wedding to be non traditional, so we threw more of a celebration rather than a traditional reception. We decided to skip dances and just let everyone give speeches throughout the night when they felt was right.  The music kept playing all night. We provided our amazing DJ (Plug In Audiovisual - recommended through Better Together Events Mexico) a playlist of our favorite songs that reminded us of different memories throughout our relationship. It was perfect.

One snafu that we didn't expect was that Hurricane Grace hit overnight the day before our guests arrived. We were evacuated from Nest and moved inland. A lot of the beachfront properties and the main road in Tulum were damaged, and we were very worried about the state of our whole wedding weekend. The Namron Hospitality Group were incredible and miraculously had an entire back up plan ready for when our guests arrived and could not enter Nest. They immediately set us up at Radhoo which turned out to be one of the best days - as they were preparing rooms and fixing damage, they provided us with drinks and food, and it turned into an impromptu pool party for all of our guests. They had us seamlessly moved into Nest the very next day, and we got to enjoy the pool for a whole day. They set up a beautiful welcome party in a matter of hours, and it turned out to be everyone’s favorite memory from the weekend. Meanwhile, Better Together Events Mexico kept us calm and reassured us our ceremony and reception plans were still on.

A few pieces of Post-wedding advice

1. Have a Wedding Planner: With the Hurricane arriving and all the thoughts about COVID, having Better Together Events Mexico as our wedding planners made everything an easy, fun, and relaxed journey during the process. We cannot say enough good things about our experience with Better Together or Namron Hospitality - they were the best decisions of our wedding planning process!

2. Use a travel agency: This helped us find Namron Hospitality hotels. They supported us fully and ensured our guests had the best experience.

3. Deep dive into the florals: Review the florist you are thinking of choosing thoroughly so you are totally sure you will like their work for your wedding.
