Sustainability is a trend that we in the wedding world can definitely get on board with! Weddings require so many resources that are often only utilized once and then are simply thrown away…but that’s all about to change. This team out of Philly shows that you can be sustainable and stylish at the same time! Not only will you feel good about doing your part to save the planet, you’ll be saving $$$ too-it’s a WIN-WIN.

A NEW PURPOSE
Casablanca is one of the newest and coolest micro-wedding spaces in the Philadelphia area. Built from an old meatpacking factory, the rich history of this beautiful industrial building shines through. 2020 brought us a lot of hardship, but one of the positive things to come out of the pandemic is redefining what a wedding should look like. Weddings do not need to be traditional to warrant beautiful design, and in many cases, it can be more environmentally friendly and financially savvy to opt for a modern and intimate approach to the big day.
SOMETHING SUSTAINABLE
Hannah of Hannah Snyder Wedding Photography sees couples leaning towards pared-down spaces, and utilizing resourceful vendors to make their day special, and that’s what inspired this shoot. For instance, Margarita from Silky Flow used dried and fresh flowers to make a gorgeous installation in shades of ivory with hints of teal. Her practice primarily uses preserved florals, which means she can repurpose her blooms. Kate Dannenberg‘s one-of-a-kind custom jewelry is made locally with responsibly sourced and recycled materials. Every piece is made by hand, meaning no two pieces are alike.
Our model, Jill McGeehan, also doubled as our baker and provided gorgeous, minimal cakes in dark chocolate and vanilla. Joanna of Hazel Dust Studio and our florist lent a hand in decorating the cakes. Kate of Kate’s Calligraphy used hand-dyed silk ribbons from Silk and Willow because she loves their sustainable practices. She also sourced her deckle edge paper from Fringe and Rose who make their handmade paper from recycled cotton rags. Aimee of Top Knots by Aimee repurposed our florist’s baby’s breath to make a gorgeous and ethereal hairpiece for our model, Ava.
The age-old saying “something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue” rang true on this shoot where we made the most of recycled materials, utilized the various talents of all of our vendors, and leaned into a cooler and more minimal color palette. The outcome was something modern, edgy but elegant, and unique.
