Tennessee Farm Wedding Transformed into Modern Chic: A Venue Transformation

Share

Elegant woman surrounded by colorful flowers portrait

When we say, “Tennessee farm wedding”, instantly a vision comes to mind: pretty rolling hills twinkle lights hanging from wooden beams in a moonlit barn, light wild florals, and a gown with lace accents. Now that we’ve painted that picture together, forget about it! A venue shouldn’t define your wedding design, far from it! Your venue should merely serve as a space to bring your vision to life. With travel being increasingly difficult these days, some couples are having to consider venues that they wouldn’t have originally pictured for their wedding. While this does present its own challenges, it is also a fun opportunity to turn expectations on their head, and that’s just what this team of Tennessee vendors did! They took a stunning farm venue and transformed it into a modern space with all of the casual chicness of a city loft space while still retaining the amazing country views…the best of both worlds! The moral of this story: Your venue is what you (and your team) make it, not the other way around.

THINKING OUTSIDE THE BARN

This styled shoot was our first collaboration with these amazing vendors but it turned out to be one of the best! Featuring an amazing, versatile venue, Tipsy Tin (a Mobile Cocktail bar), antique cars, and bright colors, the finished shoot was eye-catching and elegant. The backdrop–everything a Tennessee landscape has to offer. The antiquity and beauty of a farm with rolling hills for acres upon end. The classic, country wedding with bistro lights in a family barn is a wonderful match for land like this; it’s the number one vignette chosen at venues in our surrounding area.

Seasoned wedding photographer Katie Carroll of Katie Daisy Photography has a passion for shooting spaces and places that show a couple’s personality and sense of adventure. Having shot this type of venue a number of times, she was seeking a different vision for this styled shoot. Event Planner, Melanie Landis of 1111 Planning & Events, was the perfect collaborator to call in for such a job. One of Melanie’s passions, from early on, was being able to show couples that spaces are transformative. No room is too small, too dark, too inexpensive, or too old to be reflective of a vision.

So, it’s no surprise that they came together with a mutual goal–to capture something different but to do so in the same backdrop of a well-known venue with unlimited potential: Howe Farms in Georgetown, TN. In discussion with the owner, Talene Howe, we discovered that she was looking for the answer to the same question, “How do we showcase to couples how much our property has to offer and not come across as solely a farm-style venue?”.

BRING YOUR OWN COLOR PALETTE

With Howe Farms in our corner and a common cause, we set out to create an unconventional look that reflects a bright and shining kind of love-boisterous in color, while remaining welcoming in style. We wanted to capture the essence of a color palette that would warm hearts on even the coldest of days, (we shot this on a 30-degree day in February!) and it did just that. With the creative prowess of floral designer, Nicole Frazier at Trilogy Design Group, we knew our vision was in good hands-bright (but not pastel), greenery (but not too much of it), and whimsical and fun (without sacrificing elegance and class). Nicole’s floral design encompassed the use of snapdragons and roses among other colorful blooms, like the empress protea, to create a garden of grandeur.

The incredible team at Vow’d Weddings provided our gown, “The Captivated”. This piece showcases a full bodice with layers of ruched tulle, conveying a soft elegance while simultaneously providing structure and character–the perfect match for the alluring looks of our gorgeous model bride, Dejjah Dawkins. The flowy dress also added to the romantic vibes.
