15 Venue Sketches That Seriously Have Our HeARTs

Okay, so we’ve seen some pretty wedding stationery (and yes, that’s with an ‘e’ we get a little incensed when we spot it with an ‘a,’ spelling mistakes ranks right up there with grammar ones), but lately it’s gotten a whole lot more gorgeous with the addition of illustrations and graphic maps - keys that brilliantly ‘map out’ the entire wedding day, from ceremony to reception venue. Talk about surprise and delight for your guests…

Couples can work with custom stationers and calligraphers to beautifully design hand-drawn sketches of their wedding venue or other significant sites from their wedding day. And the artists will do so with a creative, whimsical flair, that paints a foreseeable fairy tale in the invitations and day-of stationery that will play a part in the bride and groom’s day.

Recently, I read through an Instagram caption on one of my favorite designer+calligraphers, Sarah Ann Design’s feeds, and it truly captured how popular and meaningful this stationery illustration trend has been and what power it still holds for the wedding industry.

She shared:

“The location you select for your wedding ceremony becomes a sacred space - the place that holds the precious beginning of your marriage….. Walls and landscapes hold stories. And your love story becomes part of that palpable history embedded into a venue's character. The setting to your love story will be a foundational component of your wedding-day. It's where your marriage (the greatest adventure) truly begins.”

Where you get married is so special and having it sketched on the invites that you’ll send to friends and family, is just such a fabulous idea. As are wedding and bridal sketches for just you or your fiancé or for wedding guests.

Looking back on my own wedding venue, with its charming character (and how immediately my husband and I fell in love with it), I would have loved to include a sketched rendering of the inn on my invites… but now that the time has past, I can encourage all of you to consider doing it!

Just scroll through these stunning examples and try not to swoon…
