From Kelly Giarrocco Photography: When planning this shoot, Kate from Kate Farley Design and I found inspiration in the greek myth of Persephone. Persephone was a greek goddess, who after picking a “marvelous, radiant flower” fell into the underworld and was obliged to spend the winter months there. She is a symbol of beauty, growth, and life after a long period of rest.

We borrowed inspiration from 19th century still life paintings to create the tablescape. Set against a dark background, Kate Farley’s incredible flowers really pop. The modern place settings were put together with pieces from Sur La Table, Anthropologie, and Crate & Barrel. Calligrapher Merely Mere created gorgeous menu cards for the place settings. Overall, each element worked together to create a moody, modern, and refined table.

In this shoot, Kara really personifies a stunning greek goddess who passed through the 1920s before reaching modern times. While we love a classic 1920s look, we wanted to stay away from the shoot feeling too themed or “costumey", so we updated it in subtle ways for the contemporary bride. Kara wore an BHLDN dress, simple and elegant jewelry from Indulgence Jewelers, and held a bouquet from Kate Farley that was dripping with eucalyptus leaves. Her hair and makeup were impeccable thanks to the artists at Tribe Style Bar. The bridesmaids sported beaded shift dresses but modernized the flapper look with edgy motorcycle jackets, which are perfect in the winter months.

The reception table was adorned with a Saylor Made dark chocolate cake and an Apple Pie from Nomadic Pies. Philter Coffee provided favors of dark chocolate and single origin coffee.

For the couple portraits, I opted for many indoor shots as I felt it accurately represents what a winter wedding might look like. I utilized natural window light and some stunning furniture pieces to make the photographs really "pop." Just because it’s chilly outside -- or your big day has less than ideal weather -- does not mean your wedding won't yield incredible photographs!
