Edgy Boho Outdoor Engagement Inspiration

Share

Woman holding vibrant flower bouquet in nature setting

What do you get when you combine an edgy vibe with boho elements for an outdoor engagement? Well, this dreamy inspiration! The real-life couple, Hayley & Derek brought their motorcycle and fluffy white pup to this engagement shoot, and let us say we’re pretty excited to share all the love between these two and the gorgeous style elements put together by The Romantiks and beautifully captured by Kara Hockley Photography.

This laid back but edgy shoot combined dried + fresh florals with a chic picnic table spread, and the prettiest “ceremony” spot with a view (we know, it’s an engagement but we can pictures some “I do’s” with that view!) Trust us, you’ll definitely want to peep the full gallery on this one for a closer look after you’re done scrolling! Enjoy!

how they met

From Kara Hockley Photography: Hayley and Derek met at a punk show when they were teenagers, both were getting ready for the next stage in their life, thinking about college and moving out of the small town they both grew up in. Years later, they reconnected over social media over similar interests. Derek flew out to Vancouver to visit her, and that weekend Hayley told her mom she was going to marry him. They have been together ever since.

Hayley and Derek got their names tattooed on each other after six weeks, and Hayley moved back to Cranbrook after a year of long distance once she had finished beautician school. They bought a home five years ago and last winter Derek proposed on a snowy walk in Fernie BC, Hayley was taking paparazzi photos of their white Samoyed pup Casper, turned around, and Derek was down on one knee. They want to get married in October 2021 in Arizona, in a desert botanical garden.

Moody + edgy vibe

Derek wanted some engagement photos for his future bride and approached her friends, the florists at The Romantiks, for a bouquet. The girls had a fun idea, why not do a styled shoot, and she can have some gorgeous floral installations and loads of photos for free!

I met with Sarah & Kelsey at The Romantiks and we wanted to do something outdoors, moody lighting and an edgier style to reflect the couple. The girls wanted to do a few different looks, a different take on colour & texture and we wanted to showcase a beautiful lookout in the Kootenay area. We have noticed a trend where brides are leaning towards dried flowers or unique colour and wanted to put out some inspiration for the bride looking to do something a bit different!

in their element

Hayley and Derek were completely effortless throughout the shoot, they brought their fluffy pup, motorbike, and contagious laughter. This couple is the real deal and we are so happy we got to capture them in their element. This was not necessarily an engagement shoot, rather, a styled shoot with a real couple. I think we are all looking forward to seeing this couple’s destination wedding!
