This Is How You Should Be Thinking About Your Wedding Cocktails

Share

Fashion, flowers, colors—basically everything in life follows trends, and cocktails are no different. First, there were mason jar cocktails; then there were champagne towers, Aperol spritzes, and espresso martinis—you get the picture. We had the pleasure of working with The Boring Bar, an LA-based bartending company that is out there setting the trends, for our Boots and Botanicals event. They’ve got their pulse on what couples are doing right now, so we decided to pick their brain about what we can expect to see from wedding cocktails, and their answers were refreshing!

How is The Boring Bar’s approach to cocktails different from your average wedding mixologist?

At The Boring Bar, we love what we do, and hospitality is what drives every part of our business.  We only ever want to provide the best experiences for our clients, and this means approaching the bar with the same mentality as a chef does in traditional catering. Everything we bring is hand-made, fresh, locally sourced, and inspired by our clients’ life experiences whenever possible. Our recipes are curated through intentional research with years of experience honing our craft and our palettes. Furthermore, we try to provide an all-inclusive experience with our own bar rentals, service staff for tray-passing or tableside pouring, and even full event scullery service!

Are people still doing “His & Hers” cocktails, or are we on to the next thing? If so, what should couples be requesting instead? If the trend is still going strong, what is your approach to these custom couple-inspired cocktails?

His and Hers are still the most popular choice, as are drinks dedicated to pets!  Couples are excited to curate drinks that feel meaningful to their relationship history, and guests love enjoying these selections. We encourage selecting ingredients that hold memories for our clients, and we specialize in custom recipe development for this purpose.

What about welcome cocktails?

We’ve noticed a growing demand among our clients for more personalized experiences, especially at weddings. These offerings are less about the time of year and more about what is nostalgic for the couple. For example, we developed a unique cocktail called Fruit Loops, combining a groom’s favorite childhood cereal by milk-washing a sophisticated cocktail. These were served as shooters, which we offer for shuttles, setting the celebratory tone for the big day. Another groom had us serve up some White Russians while he and his groomsmen were getting ready, since they all had fond memories watching The Big Lebowski together. Taking sentimental pieces from a client’s past and incorporating them in new ways on their wedding day makes for more meaningful service.

Do you do mocktails? Are you seeing them becoming more popular?

Some people actually assume that we are a mocktail-based company due to our name! However, we have genuinely embraced the mocktail trend, and we automatically prepare mocktail versions of our couples’ specialty drinks. It’s exciting for us, because we make everything fresh and from scratch, so we get to provide the same curated beverages with the same level of quality to the guests who prefer to drink the non-alcoholic offerings as everyone else.
