Whimsical Rainy Day Wedding In Pink Gold and Teal

cute Philadelphia wedding photos

Making your big day personal is a feeling that most of our brides and grooms express. But how do you do that? Our next couple started at home... literally. They had their first look on their cozy little street in Philadelphia and then modeled their day after their love of their cities rich architectural history.

This whimsical rainy day wedding in pink gold and teal took place at the Fairmount Horticulture Center and we have to say it is absolutely stunning! From the greenhouse wedding ceremony to the twinkle light lit reception you can see every last moment in the full gallery thanks to M2 Photography!

Wedding Venue Hunters

From the Bride: After getting engaged, Mike and I began our search for the perfect wedding venue. We knew we wanted our venue to be representative of us-- both in location and general feel.  Selecting the location was easy; Philadelphia is where we fell in love and started our lives together.

We visited the Fairmount Park Horticulture Center and knew our search was over.  It fit everything we were looking for: lush greenery, beautiful spaces both indoors and out, and just a general air of whimsicality. As self-proclaimed foodies, we also loved that the in-house caterer is Starr Catering, a company that stems from some of the city's best restaurants.

Let's Make This Personal

Looking back, it’s extremely difficult for us to choose a favorite part of the day, but it is clear that we both really loved the ceremony. We handpicked songs to be played by Elegance String Quartet, which really set the tone for the evening. Nervously, we also opted to write our own vows and felt a little unsure about being so emotionally open on a stage. However, our guests and we agreed that it made the day even more beautiful and personal, and we are so happy we made that choice.

WEDDING WHOOPS

We certainly did have a few things go wrong on the big day...the main issues being the weather and our transportation.  Unfortunately, there really wasn't a way around the monsoon that was to happen right at our scheduled ceremony time.  However, we chose to do a first look which enabled us to get the majority of our photos before any significant rain started (and partake in cocktail hour).  We cannot support the idea of a first look enough for those reasons...and for the fact that some of our favorite photographs came from those first few minutes of seeing each other on our wedding day.

As far as the transportation went, we were really excited to take a trolley to our venue with our families and bridal party after the first look in front of our home in Philadelphia.  However, the trolley was apparently having some mechanical issues.  Our day-of-coordinators did a great job of dealing with the trolley company and working out a Plan B...and taking an Uber to our wedding is certainly something we won't forget!

WHIMSICAL WEDDING DECOR

Once the venue was selected, we began researching florists (which didn’t take long). I had seen other weddings designed by Belovely Events Floral Design at the Horticulture Center and knew there was no other choice for our florist-- they are geniuses!  We met with Lauren and her team at Belovely and she really helped to mold our vision of pinks (with lots of peonies, of course), golds, and a pop of teal to add a little fun to the color palette.

We also wanted to be able to do a little of the dirty-work on our own, so my mom and I (mostly my mom) spent months thrifting the brass candle holders so that we had enough for each table on the big day.
