Backyard wedding with a homemade feel

From the bride: It was really important to have our wedding in my childhood home. We really liked the "homemade" feel- my uncle made my ring, my mom made my dress, aunts and cousins did the flowers and we as a family worked on the backyard every weekend to make it look just right. The look of the wedding had touches of vintage, boho and and a garden feel.

made by mom with love

My mom made my dress! I was initially inspired by a Lihi Hod dress I loved. My mom has always been a talented seamstress and has made all of my important dresses over the years for proms, graduations, etc. I had no idea my mom would create an even more beautiful dress than I could have imagined.

A few of their Favorite momentsĀ

Bride- the ceremony was my favorite. The exchanging of vows, getting married by my brother and to be surrounded by family and friends. I also loved the speeches, it was a loving part of the day. Groom - seeing Lorena walk down the aisle with her dad. I also enjoyed sitting at our sweet heart table looking out at our family and friends. Especially liked seeing the two sides of the family come together and enjoy each other.

DIY details

We had painted wheel barrels blush and gold and filled them with greenery. We painted vintage frames and used them as signs for the wedding. We turned vintage chairs into flower pots and created hanging macrame flower pots. We made three rows of curtains to fill the entry way and we covered the backyard with lights everywhere.

Planning a wedding? Take their advice!

Start early and be very organized. To utilize the support offered to you from friends and family. To stay grounded and remind yourself about how the wedding is representing our union- it can easily turn into another beast if you lose track of what's important. To pay off the wedding as you go so that it's all paid by the time the wedding arrives. To write your own vows. To let go of control and be fully present the day of the wedding.
