Sleek NYC Wedding Inspired By Iceland’s Black Sand Beaches

Big Fake Wedding NYC Photo:

What do the black sand beaches of Iceland and NYC have in common? A killer color palette of warm grays, subtle blues, touches of tan, black (of course), and a flare for the dramatic. Together, the two inspirations meld beautifully into a wedding that is both tranquil and edgy. Guests arrived at City Winery NYC, perched on the very edge of a pier overlooking the Hudson. With good wine flowing freely, a fun venue that screams NYC, arcade game cocktail hour, and a live band this wedding is giving us some serious FOMO. Love Long and Prosper PhotographyMonica Patricio Photography, and Thalia Nino Photography didn’t miss a moment of this epic celebration and Laurel Creative Wedding Videography was there to capture it all on video. keep scrolling for your daily dose of inspiration!

A DREAMY INSPIRATION

Big Fake Wedding NYC Photo:

The inspiration for this wedding was the black sand beaches of Iceland, something that has been populating all of our insta feeds for some time now. Vendors were told to pull inspiration from the natural surroundings, to play with texture, from the tiny granules of sand to the smooth black stones and chiseled cliffsides. The colors were all organic, found in nature, but fit perfectly in this crisp urban setting. From the vintage velvet rentals to the textured linens on the tables everyone met the brief and amped up the tactile aspect of every element that went into making this wedding a reality. The florals were a mix of fresh and dried flowers adding even more volume and texture and incorporating sharp rock-like angles.

A VENUE WITH THE RIGHT VIBES

Light gleamed off the green glass of the wine-bottle-lined staircase like sunlight off the glaciers while the dark halls and warm uplighting gave the entire event that “hygge” vibe. Greeted with a selection of City Winery NYC’s finest wines, guests made their way up the winding staircase to the ceremony space that is serving industrial-chic vibes with its polished cement floors and exposed ductwork. A collection of distressed rugs and a custom-painted ceremony backdrop waited for the bride and groom at the end of the aisle that was lined with big open windows, letting natural light spill into the space. Guests then enjoyed a one-of-a-kind cocktail hour with custom wedding arcade games while the couple and bridal party took waterfront portraits on the pier.

WHAT THEY WORE

Big Fake Wedding NYC Photo:

The wind coming off the river gives each of these photos life and movement, which is always a plus in portraits! The bride wore a stunning sleeveless dress with an embossed textured print and a high-low hem that gave the whole look a laid-back vibe without being too casual. They kept the bridal makeup to glowy neutrals and went with glam Old Hollywood curls for the hair. The bridesmaids rocked tasteful off-the-shoulder black chiffon dresses that danced in the wind as they walked. The groom and the groomsmen wore warm gray suits that worked perfectly with the color palette and black ties and shoes to give the look a sharp finish.

TIME TO PARTY

The reception was held in a large open space with tables peppering the room and plenty of space for dancing. Ratan lanterns and chairs brought in that beachy-vibe but a predominantly black and white color scheme kept it from turning too boho. The monochromatic centerpieces were reminiscent of sea life and spilled onto a mix of black and wood tables. Smooth black pebbles held the menus and place cards while thin black metal tapered candles gave each table a minimalist but romantic atmosphere. Then came the live band that got the party started and kept it going all night long until the bride and groom took their leave in one of the funnest exits we’ve ever seen! Guests lined the staircase and showered them with metallic streamers as they ran off into the crisp New York night.
